Editor Jitesh Pillaai introduces Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards

New Beginnings...

We have been a pioneer of sorts when it comes to film awards. Way back in 1953, when the magazine had just turned one, we came up with the idea of having awards. Even the National Awards were launched one year later. From the beginning, when Filmfare Awards were held in the cosy environs of Metro theatre, or later when we moved to the operatic ambience of Shanmukhananda Hall and then to the stadia-like atmosphere of MMRDA grounds in BKC or now, at the prestigious YRF Studio, we have been blessed with the love and goodwill of the industry. And that love has been unconditional and overwhelming.

We have been sort of adopted by the film industry and incorporated into its large fold. The Filmfare Awards night has become that annual gathering where this huge family greets and meets. Where new members get introduced to old, acquaintances get renewed and friendships get strengthened further.


We took the tradition down South, where it flourished on similar grounds, binding the four South industries - the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada cinema into an ironclad brotherhood. More recently, we ventured towards the East, to honour and celebrate the excellence in Bengali, Oriya and Assamese films. That venture too struck a high note among the denizens of the said industries and is slowly becoming part of the movie mythos there.


Taking heart from all these instances of camaraderie, we have decided to incorporate another set of awards - the Ciroc Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards. Stars, as everyone knows, aren't merely actors but cultural ambassadors as well. They carry the beacon of glamour and style and guide and awe their million fans through sheer panache and elegance. Taking account of this unblemished truth, we have tried in our own way to honour it and give it a credo, a motif a symbol - which in the years to come will become a gold standard of sorts for those who follow fashion, those who value style...


So, on February 26, the inaugural edition of the Ciroc Filmfare Glamour & Style Awards will see your favourite stars being nominated in categories like Most Glamorous Star, Emerging Face of Fashion, Global Icon of the Year, Trendsetter of the Year... and so on... it will be an evening where the supernovas of the fashion and the film industries will meld to entertain you.
We hope that like our earlier endeavours, this too will be met with warmth and bonhomie by the film industry, as well as admiration and adulation from our readers and the viewing public when it gets telecast. Fingers crossed... wish us luck!
