Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' faces more money woes?

By Asira Tarannum |Posted 1 hour

Production partner for Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' apparently won't release last instalment of funds until the Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer breaks even

Rumours and controversies surrounding Anurag Kashyap's 'Bombay Velvet' refuse to die down. About three weeks ago, we had reported about the filmmaker apparently struggling with the post production job and steadily spiraling budget. Now the grapevine is buzzing about Fox Star Studios, which is co-producing the ambitious project, having withheld the last instalment of funds.

Ranbir Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap

An industry source says, "Since the film has overshot its original budget of Rs 96 crore, Fox has said that the last instalment of Rs 8-9 crore would be released only if the film breaks even."

The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead while Karan Johar, Raveena Tandon and Kay Kay Menon will be seen in key roles. A source close to the project says, "There were a few portions which lead actor Ranbir Kapoor felt needed to be re-shot, but they had to make do with some amount of patchwork as the budget had crossed Rs 130 crore. The VFX was turning out to be very expensive."

Kashyap dismisses the buzz, saying it was a "regular and accepted practice in the industry" to release the last 10 per cent of the funds at the time of delivery. "Fox has not said any such thing. Whoever is spreading these negative stories about Bombay Velvet has probably run out of stories and probably had to invent a fresh one," he adds.

The spokesperson for Fox Star Studios echoes the filmmaker, stating: "Phantom (Kashyap's production house) and Fox Star Studios are partners who believe in each other and stand by each other. This information is completely baseless and malicious. Rumours about film being over-budget is also false. We are all excited about the film and gearing up for its release on May 15."

Are they making their own gossip..some new kind of promotion? It may work.
But rest of the promotions is not up to the mark.If Faridoon Talking moviez, and Taneja have seen the trailer..many in the industry would have seen it.What everyone was waiting to hear was Ranbir is BACKKK and HOW !!!

Instead we have this

Bollywood's 60s Moment: 5 Things To Expect From Ranbir Kapoor's neo-noir Bombay Velvet

Recently, Anurag Kashyap unveiled the first look of Bombay Velvet on Twitter, which generated a great amount of buzz. The trailer is quite intriguing, to say the least. Bombay Velvet is among the most highly anticipated films of this year - it's Anurag Kashyap's love letter to old Bombay.

After watching the trailer, we suggest five things why we all should look out for in the Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer.

Grandeur Sets

Talking about Bombay Velvet and the film's delay, Anurag had said, "When Bombay Velvet trailer will be out, people will realise the money spent and why the film got delayed. It took time to executeBV because it's a costly film. 70 per cent of the production money of BV is actually spent on the film and not on the individuals. Bombay Velvet is big and massive. I've created an entire Mumbai city set and to create that takes time." We agree with Anurag as the film feature huge replicas of Mumbai and several popular areas of aamchi Mumbai in a retro look. In Kashyap's own admission, "You'll get to see Rs 200 crore in the trailer itself - forget about the film."

Vintage Appeal

There's no denying that Bombay Velvet is Anurag Kashyap's costliest film of his career so far and the filmmaker has taken great care to assure the film looks set in late 1960s. Everything looks very authentic - right from the fashion of the time to the cars of the era. The trailer successfully takes us back to the bygone era.

Karan Johar's Moustachioed Look

It's refreshing to see the stylish Karan Johar sporting a cool moustache and adorning colourful blazers while he steps out of his vintage car. We assure that you haven't seen Karan on screen before like the way Anurag has presented him in Bombay Velvet. Spoiler: KJo - he, of the feel-good, big-ticket romantic blockbusters - is playing villain!

The Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma Kiss

Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma have been paired opposite each other for the first time inBombay Velvet and boy, they do look good together. The passionate kiss between Ranbir and Anushka is certainly going to set temperatures soaring.

Realistic dialogue

Anurag Kashyap's films are mostly known for their narrative and dialogue. And from whatever we saw in the Bombay Velvet trailer comes across as Anurag's exemplary take on human relationships. Ranbir, who plays street fighter Johnny Balraj, has got some interesting dialogue that can become cult.

The fact that Khans have survived for so long has a reason...smart moves at the right time.
