Rape scenes are on the rise in serials nowadays (blame it on the TRPs). We ask actresses who have been through the trauma on-screen how it difficult it is to enact rape scenes and how their family reacted to them.
Niyati Joshi (Pia of Saat Phere), who was raped by Abhi (Sachin Shroff), with whom she is married in the show now, explains: "It was not easy to enact that scene. The feeling of being raped is so scary. I was very tense about that shot. Somewhere down the line, I was upset also for some time after doing that scene. However what is more difficult is the latter situation where you have to show emotional trauma."
"My mum saw that scene and she called me after ten minutes .She told me that she literally had tears in her eyes after watching that scene. I had to convince her that it was just a scene and not to worry about me. But she is supportive and later on she was fine and appreciated the scene."
Akanksha Rawat ( Shagun of Solah Sringarr), who got raped by her brother-in-law Shakti (Faisal Khan), and has now got married to her in the show adds, "When I shot for it, the whole set up was different. That day my director and his assistants were new. So I was not at all feeling comfortable. I had done lots of preparations for that scene and that was difficult for me. We were shooting for it for an entire week and I was so disturbed that time. I used to get angry very quickly during those days because of that. That entire chasing-escaping-hiding was too difficult for me."
"I am from Delhi which is not a safe place for girls, so my parents were already against my career in the industry. However, they do not interfere in my work. Mom felt bad after watching that scene, but later on she was ok with it."
Mouni Roy (Krishnatulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) whose rape took place during Holi by Mayank (Rahoul Lohani) also had a similar experience. "Initially I refused to do that scene. In fact I told them to use a body double for it. However, my director convinced me. I shot that scene separately and none of my co-stars were there on the sets that day."
"Emotionally I felt bad thinking about people who really go through that pain and trauma. Imagining that situation too is hard for any girl. My dad did not see that scene but my mum did. Since I am a very small town girl, she called me up and asked me 'what have you done?' and do not do such scenes again. But when people stated appreciating me then she was ok with it. Like any other mother she cares for me but I have studied in Delhi and it is not a safe place for girls, so I know how to take care of myself."
Parakh Madan (Suman of Saathi Re) had been raped by her ex-boyfriend in the show Prem. She says: "I was nervous enacting that scene. But my co-star and director were very co-operative and I did not feel awkward in the end. As there is too much violence involved in such scenes and you have to cool down quickly after doing such scenes. For me that was a hard experience."
"My mum saw that scene, she was bit fearful about it but then she called me and told me that they have done it decently. My parents are supportive and they know that I will not do anything which I will find vulgar. I am in this industry for last one year and they know that it is part and parcel of the industry."
Gauri Pradhan (Nandini of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi), who was raped by her husband Ansh (Akash Deep Sehgal) narrates her experience. "It was not difficult for me at all. Before doing the scene, I made it clear to my director that what I am comfortable with. It did not turn out to be bad scene at all."
My husband Hiten and my family members saw that scene and were pretty fine with it. They all know that I know my limits."
