You are more than welcome, my dear Shruti. I am glad he forwarded your interpretation to so many other people. I am sure they will find it very interesting and novel!

You, my dear, are on a roll! First you sold me on the Dark Maya thesis, and I started amplifying on it. Now you have reworked it so that you still land on your feet,😉 for it was clear from last night's episode that Maya knows nothing of the real (and entirely different) reasons for which her mama and her naanu want Rudra brought to Allahabad. Plus you did that before that episode was telecast, which shows considerable prescience!

Now, if she is not Balivesh's accomplice, how come is she, according to you, NOT doodh ki dhuli? But I agree with you about Balivesh, who plays his cards very close to his chest at all times.

Incidentally, last night's episode, with its affirmation that Maya was told to get Rudra to Allahabad by hook or by crook, explains something that was earlier incomprehensible, why she jumped to his aid out of the blue when he was arrested, and then stuck to him even after he had half strangled her.

This does not of course rule out her falling head over heels for him, which she is clearly doing. At least so it seems from her actions, for her face generally holds the same expression, and is thus inscrutable!😉

I for one am waiting for the daadi. In this show, the precaps are all haywire; we still have no daadi, and Rudra as Pandey's Nemesis is already 2 precaps old!

Shyamala Aunty (glad your mother drilled some sense into you!😉)

Anyways back to MK,

I don't think or rather believe Maya knows any thing of the plot of Balivesh, she had simply been instructed to bring Rudra to Balivesh n she's done just that.
Not that I now believe she's a dudh-ki-dhuli or any thing , but Balivesh is simply not that type of man who'd share key information with Maya , he's like Voldemort who loves to keep all the plans n plots close to his own chest n tell his supporters only as much as they need to know for work.
Also , I understand why those goons wear black goggles all the time . It's because criminals especially who does dirty jobs always want to hide their identity n looks, it's vital to their job , but a disguise say , the kind Balivesh's Sadhu gang has used can hide all other features perfectly , except the EYES. Each person has different n unique eye set n a keen observer with good memory can always identify one by their eyes only, that's why this black goggles to hide them.
Also, eyes portray a lot of emotions n wearing black goggles make them look emotionless n much more sinister n badass.

Thank you so much, my dear, not just for liking this post but also for such interesting comments. I agree with them all, and so need not add anything to what you have said, expect that the part @blue is perfect. I had noted some of those points in this post, the dark glasses and the sports shoes, and the gentle crossing of her hands across her midriff. The gentleness with which he did all this was very touching.

I do not remember the background chant as Rudra and Maya were being rowed across the river, unfortunately, and I do not have that recording on my HD any more. Do check it online and let me know. If it is indeed so, it might mean that her goals are (1) to get him to her mama & naanu and (2) make him fall in love with her, whereas his is a single point agenda, to take revenge for the murders of Udiya Baba and Maimuyi.

As for my current, tentative take on Maya, do see my response to Gargi above. I would have preferred a Dark Maya for sure! Personally, I detest these Trip& Be Held gimmicks and the other, and even more frequent one, the RK Films logo one. I used to joke that when this was used, the girl must have been constantly worried that he might let her fall, and the man must have been muttering to himself, Lord, I had no idea she would weigh so much!😉😉

Dear Shyamala, Considering the setting of this show I almost read that as all roads lead to Prague...😛

Loved your Take 5, especially the "miniaturist treasure" and the train to Prayag. You are quite the mistress of words!!

First off, for a show that's only twenty episodes old, there have been too many funerals... consider this, we are even discussing the relative merits of one versus the other! 😉

I found the editing of the dying & funeral scenes very effective... just the right amount of choice snippets of flashback to pull at the heart-strings and make ones eyes wet.

Also when the Maimui's pyre is dying down, and the community disperses, the loneliness of Rudr is highlighted in those dark shots on the ghat with the dimly visible figures of Punnu& Maya on the steps-The mural on the ghat of Shiv as a repeating motif - when Rudr fights the cop, when he contemplates revenge on KPP- the small details like Rudr wiping his hands on Mai's aanchal, him putting the goggles & trainers on her then kissing her goodbye - I liked all the small touches that add up to great viewing! 👏

Also the scenes where Rudra leaves Punnu behind and goes off on the boat with Maya - with some chant in the background that seemed to say they were on the same boat but "lakshya lekin bhinn hai..." Did you get a chance to listen to the BG music there?

Shivanand tells Griererson he's weaving dreams perched on a simmering volcano - I hope those words resonate with future episodes in some way.

GR - not much left to say about his performance - his Rudr is getting better and better, and I am so happy about that- but I do hope he had his anti-typhoid shots before getting into the Ganga!

I suppose this is the norm for a thriller - triumvirate of the Cardinal, Maya, and Dr Rao - remind me of that "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma" quote. Add to this your Greek puzzle and Thappadiya Mai loose cannon! The writer is filling his candy shop with all sorts to keep us coming back...😊

Akka - Trip & Be Held - What a delightful combo of words ? See this happens not only at a physical level. In our lives, it happens emotionally also - Unlike in Physical scenario, emotional trip and be held is embarrassing, no ? But I loved reading your above para of RK logo and the guy's concern on weight - It surely is a weighty issue. 😃

Shyamala ma'am, actually the reason that I think that Maya is not a Dudh-Ki-Dhuli is that though she went to Benaras to woo n trick Rudra into accompanying her to Ilahabaad , I guess she didn't think what a peice of hunk Rudra will turn out to be , you know the phrase, some times the hunter becomes the prey in the jungle ?? 😉 some thing similar happened n the poor girl started having feelings n started craing for his welfare , but she's not opposed to use her youth n beauty for her own dreams even after her job of bringing Rudra to Ilahabaad is done , yesterday in the mela she caught hold of Rudra with a kind of wifely possession n her hugging Rudr n going to his rooms with dinner- all are as much out of a genuine concern n care for him , as is an attempt almost desperate to increase her proximity to him , atta girl I'd say !! She's now feeling guilty but not enough to make a clean confession to Rudra.
Some one in the forum was saying why Maya doesn't feel guilty of playing a part in Maymui's death ?? NOw, why would she ??? 😕 She'd no idea when the attack was going to happen, she'd no idea in the 1st place that Rudra will come to see her game , she'd not the faintest of idea that that MLA's son is gonna corner her after the match, so she's as much responsible for it as is Maymui herself, or Rudra or Punnu , or just about the rest of the Kashi.
Auntie , I never felt Maya will turn out to be evil because of Maymui's instinctive liking n preference towards her. The woman who'd sailed through the rough tides of life couldn't do so with out developing almost a finger tip tactile perception of men/women n ye to uski bachwa ka sawal hai. A mother's heart, one as strongly maternal as Maimui's would always know if a evil girl hovers around her boy . I know it doesn't make any scientific sense , n maybe s a medical student I shouldn't give such loudly emotional "logic", but that's how Indian soap works. You do not show the mother handing over her son's responsibility to a girl n show her as evil in the end.
But I feel really bad for Rudra n Maya both , it's clear now that Rudra absolutely cares for her n who knows may be even would've fallen for her had his mind not been occupied with constant revenge-bug. It's his belief that he's jinxed for life -is what making him stay aloof from Maya. The day he finds out the whole truth, he'll be shattered once again.
N Maya is caught in a even worse position, her parents are not to be seen, both of her uncles n even her Nanu , whom she loves the most , is only using her for their dirty purposes with not a thought spared to her feelings , her wishes. Her entire fulcrum of life is going to go haywire soon. N her heart gonna break sooner or later.
