The Author is stressing on the equal no/proportion of participants from different countries. Actually it is still better than that. If more people had qualified the audition , we could have ended up with majority from outside India as well. We have never been shown the audition round of SRGMP-7, so we really do not know how many people appeared/shortlisted for audition/post audition but pre-mahaguru rounds. It is just the name "mahayuddh" as well as the fact that auditions were held outside India this time that is new for SRGMP-7. In the last SRGMP-5 also there were some oversees participants.

You have touched only the vishwayudh part, whereas the greater joke it is actually called "Sangeet ka pratham vishwayudh". Sangeet or music encompasses an ocean of styles, genres not only in the sub-continent but the whole world. Now let us restrict our discussion here to the music of the sub-continent with its rich musical culture and tradition.

There is no representation of pure hindustani/carnatic classical, Ghazal, sufi, qawwali, bhangra, Rabindra sangeet, tribal music, bhakti sangeet and the numerous folk music traditions of the various states and their variations to justify the exaggerated title given. We should also not forget instrumental music which is the life and soul of any musical genre.

Even the songs selected here have become boringly repetitive and do not test the singers' talents substantially. The singers are repeatedly told to restrict themselves to a particular genre casting aspersions on the singing abilities of the contestant to be part of a supposedly reputed singing competition, which in the past was regarded as the benchmark of a vocal talent hunt where the prowess of the contestants was of the highest order.

The title could well be changed to "Lokpriya Hindi chitra sangeet ki pratiyogita".

on the flipside, this is the 1st step towards widening the horizon and once other countries start pouring in requests, they may open it up for audition at other places too. yes, it's not completely vy, but it's a start.

I agree with you Anu, I too wonder why they call it "Vishvayudh" when they did most of the auditioning in India..I feel the whole proportion of selecting participants in the auditions from India v/s from other countries was very uneven..in the beginning itself they shud've planned it well and done a fair selection, almost equal number of participants from all countries including India..and maybe even have some mentors from outside India..

It reminds me of the US, where they call the baseball match as "World Cup Baseball" when the only country where its played in is the US..ofcourse the players are from US Canada and some North American countries and Japan..but its played only in the US.. I find that very funny 😛 when they call it a world cup..

Sometimes I think maybe that's why they are trying hard to retain Mauli 😕 , by over-hyping her..and her popularity only helps..so that atleast we have someone representing another nation besides India and Pakistan..
