The FB post is so uncanny: almost like something Anandi would write for her SRS!

Yes, the dignitaries should have stood up; the least they could do.

The wife's composure even at the time of receiving the Major's body is something to think about.

Thanks for sharing Rohini.
Shiv and Anandi are fictional characters and yet we feel so bad for their fate. It is very hard to imagine how real life people are co-oping up with their situation.

Respect and Salute to all these brave souls.

Thanks for sharing.

Watched the Major's wife receive the award and while listening to the event surrounding his death could not but think in context of the events in our serial.

And said to myself "This is real life". Who should the wife or the wife's well wishers blame for the Major's death.

Salute to her courage.
That is my point...in real life there is so much going on everywhere. It's not in our hands to change.
But should we not change what is in our hand..

@bold blue. agree. Idiotic protocol should really be reworked so everyone stands up for the wife of a dead Army hero.

They are VVIP's. They would not understand. You don't need a protocol to follow...to stand up in honour of a martyr. If you have respect for them in your heart...you would stand up on your own.

I was watching an interview with Major Mukund Varadarajan's widow on one of the news channels.
People seem to be surprised that she appeared stoic and dignified in her grief. Don't understand what people expected her to do. Did they expect her to breakdown and sob and cry?
Don't know but people seem to think that only breaking down and crying is the only way to express their grief and sorrow. Was reminded of a discussion that went on in the forum after Shiv's death
People don't seem to understand that love for the deceased and wanting everything ceremony and rights connected to that person to go on smoothly helps the surviving ones maintain dignity in their grief.
I am glad they showed Anandi the way it befits her character and her love for her husband.

This lady moved us to tears with her calm and composed manner

We expected Anandi to be shown in this manner from what we have seen of her character and her love for her husband. CVs seemed to have failed there especially the way they wrote Anandi's speech.

Aparna,

I was wondering if anybody felt that Anandi's speech was not up to the mark. I'm glad you felt that way too. The speech should have reflected Anandi's pride in her husband's valour and sacrifice. Instead it became a recap of their personal life.

A bit of the personal life was okay but she ought to have saluted his supreme sacrifice and said she was proud of him and his bravery in putting the country above himself and his family. She should have said such men do not really die, and she can feel his presence even as she talks. And then the babies being born would have been the perfect tribute.

I also agree with you that Major Mukund's wife spoke for people like you and me who believe that the wife does not have to wail inconsolably to show how much she loved her husband.

Had the CVs made Anandi say, "What is important is what Shiv did for his country, not my grief,." I would have been proud. And one cannot even say it is just fiction. This happens in real life.In fact, the widows of most real-life martyrs, I have read about and have known, are extremely dignified in their grief.

Anandi who accompanied Shiv to the cremation ground was more like the Anandi we have known and behaved very much like a martyr's wife.
But the one who attended the felicitation ceremony was so lost without Shiv and pre - occupied with her own grief and it did not go well with Anandi's character.

Anandi would have attended the ceremony even if she is so close to her delivery because she wanted to honour her husband but the speech was very badly written.
