Delayed movies -Singh is Bling, Bombay Velvet, All is Well

As many as five big films this year will have a delayed release

This year, as many as five big banner Bollywood films have been pushed ahead of their original release date. These flicks include, Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos starring Ranbir Kapoor (above), Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, Umesh Shukla's All is Well, Aneez Bazmee's Welcome Back and Prabhu Dheva's Singh Is Bling. Film trade analysts say that besides clashes with other films and shooting delays, there are various other factors that also lead to a delay. "Production houses announce a release date much in advance, in order to avoid a clash with other big banners. But later on, when there are technical issues, it forces the makers to push the date," says trade analyst Girish Johar. This year, as many as five big banner Bollywood films have been pushed ahead of their original release date. These flicks include, Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos, Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, Umesh Shukla's All is Well, Aneez Bazmee's Welcome Back and Prabhu Dheva's Singh Is Bling.

Jagga Jasoos, starring actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead, now has an October 2015 release, instead of its original August 28 date, as it was clashing with another Kat-starrer, Phantom. On the other hand, Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, also a Ranbir-starrer, has been pushed to July 2015, because the director wanted to brush up the film's VFX. In a recent interview to us Kashyap said, "The film is now taking the right time to release." A source however shares, "The film has got delayed because Ranbir didn't like the rough cut and wanted Anurag to re-shoot some portions."

Meanwhile, Singh is Bling, which has actor Akshay Kumar in the lead, has also been pushed ahead from July 31, 2015 to October 2, 2015, as the makers switched release dates with Akshay's other film, Brothers. However, an insider says that this is not the only reason for the delay. "The movie's script was re-written because of the failure of Prabhu Dheva's last film, Action Jackson," says the source. While Shukla, whose film stars actors Abhishek Bachchan and Asin, says his movie was pushed ahead from December 5, 2014 to July 3, 2015 because he was "waiting for the right kind of weather to resume shooting", Bazmee pushed his John Abraham-starrer from January to May 29, 2015 because of delays in the shooting schedule.

Film trade analysts however feel there are various other factors that also lead to a delay in a film's release. "Production houses announce a release date much in advance, in order to avoid a clash with other big banners. But later on, when there are technical issues and extra time taken in post production, it forces the makers to push ahead the date," says trade analyst Girish Johar. But do the delays make the audience lose interest in the films? "Nowadays, the promotion campaign before a major release is so aggressive that filmmakers manage to create curiosity among people," opines trade analyst Atul Mohan.
