Popular Acting Award - Totally Pointless? - Page 2

Extremely easy fix, for awards that would care enough about regaining credibility, is to rename this category as 'Most Popular Star (Male)' and 'Most Popular Star (Female)' since some people (justifiably) argue that there are movie stars who deserve to win such accolades due to the number of people they bring in to theaters or the audience voting that occurs to determine the winner. Taking out the word 'actor' from the category removes any association of the award with acting itself and easily distinguishes between performances and popularity. I don't think people would get so riled up about awards or their credibility to the same extent then, while organizers would still have a way to stroke the ego of stars.

I agree with you and the reason for "popular" awards is just so more ego's can be fed. Why have one best actor award if you can have two? After all, all they care about is money not talent.

Bollywood is a star driven industry. Times are changing still stars bring in audience. So it makes sense to award popular stars. Even National Awards have Best Film and Wholesome Entertainer film.

Filmfare has Critics Awards for Best actor, actress, film and popular category for the same.

^ The amount of money Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif bring in the industry, they deserve at least 3-4 popular awards. :) If not for popular films, the Kashyaps and Motwane's won't have any sponsor for their films. Bollywood doesn't work like Hollywood.

Your point? did I oppose them having this category and what srk got todo with the point ? I was telling TM that I think thus category should exist and just cited they as an example !!
