I agree that boys are interested in outdoor games and this may be the reason hampering their chances at Antakshri. Here are couple of other reasons too that contributes to the poor ratio in my opinion.

I am sure that they are also conscious of the changes happening in their voices. It maybe that due to that they are not participating in the fear of being made fun of.Before it used to be about just knowing the song but now its also about singing it with tune .

I don't think singing has anything to do with girls or is something more to the inclination for girls since in most talent shows we also get to see good talented boys and a lot of them later on go to become popstars and band members. Its not the singing that they are interested in but the kind of music. Those who do choose singing are more inclined to classical singing and since antakshri is about your display of filmy knowledge they lack out.

Instead of taking up singing lots of boys prefer to learn instruments like guitar or the tabla . Their focus is on classical music and raaga's that then later get developed to filmy music . Most of these people are again not exposed as filmy music that goes against them in giving a shot on antakshri.

Lastly also parents encouragement is a huge factor. Most parents don't really seem to encourage their sons in music and prefer to have them excel is sports or studies. If they were to tell them they want to be a singer I am sure it does not digest down well. After all still in the indian society the male is the head of household shouldering the responsibilities.

One thing that would be interesting to know is the real count on the boys participation. Is it due to lack of participation on the boys side that we do not see them or is it due to the lack of knowledge that we do not see them???

I think that the adult male participation was not bad as compared to the children category. We did get to see teams of bro's and brother-sis combo's. This does show that they too are strong contenders who do have interest and knowledge about songs but just not participating due to their priorities about family and work for the most part. This reasoning is more apparent when we compare the parent to child . We see mother and daugther combo's but never father daughter. This led me to thinkthat as a lot of our mothers were homemakers they did get to listen to songs and acquire the required knowledge while the father even if he wanted did not havethe time and energy.Neeti's dad was the only one I saw and he seemed to be equally knowledgeable to his wife

Guys we know are pretty laid back while gals are super hyper especially when it comes to hitting the buzzer hence guys do lose out on the rounds but not due to knowledge as I don't think they could have come so far through the audition without the database .

nice topic Kinza 😊

I can't really think of one specific reason as to why there are less boy competitors. However... this is something that I have noticed with the guys that I know. So, this is purely a first-hand experience, not generality.

Most boys that I know aren't real hard core fans of singing competitions. Like it has been stated before, guys would enjoy investing their time in other things.

As for the boys who enter the contest themselves, I feel it's a different thing. We see so many male contestants in talent shows, such as SVOI, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Indian Idol, and all of those... the thing with all these talent competitions is that they give complete exposure to the contestants, so that they can be noticed as a singer. In Antakshari, it may not be the same case... sure the winner gets a rather handsome prize, but they may not necessarily get the kind of exposure that they're looking for.

For the (few) boys who do enter the Antakshari contests, I feel that they're not necessarily looking for a commercial exposure. They're just going so that they get to sing a little, nab a chance to win the weekly prizes, perhaps even get to the grand finale. So much time on TV can win them quite a lot of air time, and it's all immense fun. Some boys enjoy this kind of fun, but others, maybe even the majority, enjoy other activities in which they find more fun, and something more worth dedicating their time to.

I feel that it's all a matter of opinion 😊

Very good Topic for Discussion Kinza.
Everyone spoke so far have given very valid and good points I agree with most of them. 😊
My point is Antakshari contestents are choosen by the producers of the show when they show the adudition videos in the Riston ka antakshari we got to see
lot of male participants they just didnt get a chance coz of the above mentioned reasons Like there are more female participants with more knowledge of movies, songs and lyrics.

THe boys who got through definetly were very good in Filmy music Like the brothers from East in Ristonka Antakshari and our(sry My) Fav Naveen from North etc.. 😊 😊 So itz not gender just individual taste that there happens to be more girls interested in playing Antakshari.Just my opinion
