I actually missed out on many. I forgot to mention Farooq Sheikh's Baazar, Anil Kapoor's Woh saat din, Basu Chatterjee's Khatta Meetha, Andhi, Millie, Jaya Bachchan's wonderful Guddi- what a phenomenal actor she was, Koshish, Silsila-which was the inspiration for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and was a fantastic film, Paheli of course- I loved how the narrative explores female sexuality and the desire for love without any moralizing. She chooses her love, not the person she is supposed to love. Great film. Chupke Chupke-endearing and the female control over the narrative is brilliant. A lot more.

Bazaar was a very good film. I never watched it before but recently I did and I was so amazed!

The book & the film adaption that starred Reese Witherspoon?

Well, yes in a way but Choker Bali was powerful in a way that this movie could never be. I think the only thing comparable between the 2 movies, is the steel-like determination, beauty & manipulative intelligence with which both characters are blessed with. 😆

Both. Mira Nair made it the way I imagined Becky Sharp's character should be.

The things I found similar: Two friends... smart/cunning one seducing the husband of the dimwit... a guy who can do anything for his friend's wife (In Rituparno's CB, it seemed Bihari had a crush on his 'bhabi-ji'.)

Aish was a miscast if anything lol. The movie was terrible compared to the sheer beauty of the book.
Rituparno Ghosh was so criticized for casting her, loved it. Rituparno Ghosh made some good films in his time like Unishe April. God you should totally watch that movie. It's brilliant. Dahan is brilliant too, it's about how society's perspective changes towards the victim of molestation and the culture of victim-blaming. Chokher Bali is his weakest work.
Read the book man. Bihari and Binodini. <3 Although the English version is stupid. Translations kill everything.

Liked titli as well...

^ Not seen it.

This is not a movie & it's by Saratchandra, but if we are talking Bengali lit- The Final Question (Shesh Prashna) is a lovely, lovely book. Kamal, is a POWER-HOUSE. Must read.
