Chapter 5
Breaking Shackles Part 1
Randhir and Aisha returned late after shopping and grabbing dinner. Randhir dropped her at their apartment and drove to his mother's place. He decided to end this meaningless thing with Aisha that was dragging on.He entered her apartment as Renuka rushed to make him a cup of coffee. She sensed that he must be tired.
" Had a long day at office, beta?" she smiled as she handed over the cup to Randhir.
She sat down on the sofa beside him. Randhir's replies, to her questions were monosyllabic and he looked lost in some thought. This troubled Renuka.
" What's the matter, beta?" she asked him further, hoping to get an idea about what was troubling him.
"Mom, I want to break up with Aisha." Randhir decided not to beat around the bush and come to the point directly.
Randhir's words stripped the affectionate and concerned expression off Renuka's face. Her face now had a stern and professional look.
"And why is that so?" her words were calculated and cold.
Randhir got a bit disoriented on getting such a cold response. But he continued anyways.
" Mom, it's not working out. I don't feel anything for her beyond friendship. We are not meant to be." Randhir sighed.
" Listen to me Randhir." Renuka used her no-nonsense' , pofessional tone now. " If I have learnt anything from the relationship I had with your dad, it is that just love is not enough. I was smitten by your dad when I married him at a young age. But did things work out? No. He was a failure in fulfilling even the basic needs of his only child. I don't deny that I was also responsible for not giving you enough attenton, but you know it Randhir, Harsh holds a greater responsibility for your ruined childhood."
Randhir closed his eyes. He knew that his mother was mostly right in what she was saying.
" But that doesnot mean that Harsh didnot love you Randhir . His love for his son was unadulterated. But he was lacking in other areas." Renuka wiped her glasses. " That is why I am saying Randhir, Aisha is perfect for being the wife of Randhir Singh Shekhawat. She is beautiful, educated , smart, capable and everything that a liberal man would want in his partner. I would advise to give this a thought. And moreover its like you have fallen for someone else. Or have you?" Renuka cocked up her eyebrows.
Randhir was taken aback by this question. He didnot know what to say. No. He was not in love with anyone. Its just that he was happy to see Sanyukta again and"Wait. Why was he thinking of Sanyukta? Where did she come from suddenly?
All these things were going inside Randhir's head when Renuka's voice pulled him back to reality.
" I have asked you a question, beta." Renuka smiled.
" Umm...No mother. I have not fallen for anyone else." Randhir mumbled.
" Hmm. Then its probably that you must be feeling very monotonous . Why don't you go on a trip ? Take a break. Clear your thoughts. Go out with your friends? Or better. Go out with Sanyukta Aggarwal, your batchmate in FITE. You two must be having a lot to catch up on, na? " Renuka's eyes twinkled.
" Wha-?" Randhir jaw fell. " How do you know that she is here?" Randhir was dumbfounded.
" I have my sources, beta." Renuka smiled mischieviously.

Sanyukta reached office earlier than the alloted time. She needed to arrange her files and set up her table. She remembered the promise she had made to herself last night - strict work-only' relationship with Randhir. No getting topsy-turvy around him.But little did she know that such promises are very hard to keep. Especially when it involved someone like Randhir Singh Shekhawat.
Randhir reached office earlier than usual too. He had to prepare himself for a meeting. Plus, he also needed to divert his mind from Aisha a bit. He didnot expect anyone to be there this early, except the security people. But to his pleasant surprise he was not the only one inside the building. He stepped a bit closer to have a better look at the lady who was busy doing some paperwork, sitting on the lounge in the common room. And his heart skipped a beat when he realised it was Sanyukta. Sanyukta, in a black palazzo and a white fomal linen shirt. Her hair tied into a messy bun with stray locks of hair falling over her beautiful face. She looked divine.
Randhir's hands were itching to tuck up those few strands of hair behind her ears with his hands. His brain kept telling him that it was wrong to check out one's collegue so shamelessly. But his heart refused to listen. He just couldnot tear his eyes away from the godess sitting infront of him. He just kept gaping unabashedly.
Sanyukta finished her paperwork and was about to get up to go to her cabin when she was taken aback to see Randhir standing infront of her. And a blush immediately crept up on her cheeks as she realised had been looking at her for quite sometime, without her even knowing it.
" Hello...Sir." she stammered, trying to avoid eye-contact.
Randhir couldnot believe his ears. Why was Sanyukta using a professional tone with him? No. This was not going in the right way. Actually, he didnot know which way he wanted things to go. But this was definitely not it.
" Sir, eh?" Randhir tried to sound casual, in a desperate attempt to make Sanyukta comfortable.
Sanyukta blushed harder.
" Call me Randhir. I know I am your senior here. But were frenemies' once too". he smirked, secretely trying to calm down his rapid hearbeats.
" Okay. Randhir it is then," Sanyukta relaxed a bit, somewhat forgetting her promise.
" Looks like you have finished some of your work. Lets grab a cup of coffee before resuming. What say?" Randhir asked.
And Sanyukta knees started to go weak.
She possibly couldnot hate herself anymore than she was, at that moment. Mentally she was shouting profanities and slapping herself. Why did she need to lose control over her senses everytime she is with Randhir, who, by the way, was someone else's fiance. Her heart was shouting to say a yes to Randhir, her brain was giving a red alert.
Finally, she gave in to her heart, concluding that she was a stupid woman with irrational thinking.
" Okay. I wont mind," she smiled nervously.
" Cool. I know a place nearby. I will drive you there." He replied.
