The Big Three: Inspector Tiwari, Raghav, and the Auto Driver
The three main companions of super sleuth Raffe are Inspector Tiwari, Raghav, and the auto driver. The three are in some ways a family unit. Most TV serials are family oriented - so the family members form the main cast. Here, Private Investigator (PI) Raffe has three constant companions Inspector Tiwari, Raghav and the auto driver (I am sorry I do not recollect his name). These three are his family for they provide a sense of continuity and familiarity to the show.
Raghav is Raffe's classmate and is the person that Raffe trusts and confides in. He also assists him in his investigations. Raghav is not a 'nerd' or a 'dolt'. He is smart, dependable and the CVs portray him as the voice of the common man (just like the auto driver). He asks the questions that the viewer is asking at any given moment in order to allow Raffe to appear very bright and explain everything. Raghav (and the auto driver) are very likeable. Raghav is also taking some criminology courses, is tech savvy, and can do some of the footwork and internet searches for Raffe. The CVs will probably develop a stronger role for him as the series gains momentum. I am looking forward to Raghav taking a more stronger lead. The actor who plays Raghav is excellent. He has the right nuance of a collegiate both in looks and style. His dialog delivery is perfect with just the right swagger of a romeo around Lakhi.
Our auto driver (I will call him AD from now on) and Raghav are the same age as Raffe. AD like Raghav is used by the CVs to ask questions that the viewer may be asking while watching the show. AD is affable and street smart with contacts in the right places - something that a collegiate may not have. So he too is valuable "go-for" for our PI. AD's role too may develop more substantially as the series progresses. At least, I hope so - because he too is a talented actor. He adds the right amount of masala as an independent, if somewhat naive individual to the threesome (PI, Raghav, and AD). Many may think that AD's role is minor and insignificant - but I think that with time he will add a lot of flavor to the series and his character can develop quite nicely.
And now, coming to Inspector Tiwari. He is not the bumbling comedian they portray him to be. He is smart and knows his job but what has stood out is the duality of rivalry / admiration between Tiwari and Raffe. Inspite of Tiwari's comic lines, the the CVs are not portraying Tiwari as a totally stupid person and Raffe as the clever one. There should be some mutual respect. So, I do hope Tiwari is proved right and courageous - as they did in the first episode where Tiwari was guarding the crime scene. Although Tiwari is not particularly competent, he certainly is not corrupt (at least thus far), a strength of will and purpose in the way he operates. Although his logic may not match that of Raffe, but his sense of purpose, doggedness at pursuing his work, and dialogue delivery are what makes him amusing. In other words, he is somebody who works at getting things right but amusingly ends up getting things wrong. I just liked the way Tiwari pulled off his dialogues and scenes in both episodes. It will be interesting to see what the CVs have for him in future episodes.
To summarize, the big three in Raffe's life as a PI are great characters brilliantly portrayed by the actors (I am sorry I do not know their names). I thank the CVs, crew and cast for giving us a good show.
