Nonetheless, in her defense, she does have a show currently on LifeOk that puts forth a rather sensible message. Considering that the soap world is mainly a female domain, one would have thought, that show would have a lot of takers, but no wait.. this one has wayyy better chemistry. It's sense vs eye-locks what a choice! Besides Abhi is just sooo adorable because he is sooo dumb!

Ekta always gets blamed for dishing out drivel, but if the audience not only laps up the drivel but even asks for seconds, why blame her for laughing all the way to the bank.

PS. The two sisters! That's what is common b/w the two works. And here I was trying hard to see Abhi in the light of the pleasant Edward rather than the Khap panchayat that he has come to personify.

I agree. At this point, I can't even fault her, like I used to. She has her formula down. It's not like she has fundamentally changed her misogynistic vision since the Abhigya marriage. Boy = hero regardless of all his shitty behavior. Girl = loser doormat in constant need of a savior due to her own passivity.

Ekta realized that so long as there is a "love" story undercurrent, everything else can likely be ignored, forgiven, or forgotten by the audience. All the more power to her. 👏

I don't feel that romance or chemistry is a bad thing but agree with you, it should not be the only thing keeping a show alive especially when syou say that it is inspired from a timeless classic.

Excellent Post and how true.

Kumkum Bhagya is nowhere Sense and Sensibility and is far from an adaptation as well. Initially Ekta got me interested by saying serial is a loose adaptation of Sense and Sensibility.

But seeing the serial and Pragya's character I was so put off. Pragya is an educated girl who was teaching in college and no self-respecting woman would put up with all the torture that goes out in the name of her bhagya. They have simply made Pragya a self sacrificing woman for TRPs. And she is nowhere close to Eleanor.

I would have simply loved it and applauded if Pragya had left the mansion without even trying to prove herself innocent.

Strange in Balmiki's Ramayan itself Sita refused to go through agni-pariksha again to prove her chastity and innocence opting for her self respect. Then why are they showing Pragya like this

By the way, I am not a fan of either jodi especially not BB-Purab - that relationship sucked from the start. The Pragya and Abhi had some potential and now it sucks to high heaven.

i love your analysis! straight to point! i loved sense and sensibility and was so excited to know that ekta is going to adapt it in hindi serial but man this is such a huge disappointment!

In the novel colonel and marianne were standouts! here honestly! popularity matters, sense does not! 😆
