This also marks the first time that the music label has ventured into a film that is not dependent on music. Their previous offerings like Aashiqui 2 and Yaariyan have had chartbusters. However, the music honcho understands that a movie like Baby, which has patriotism at its core, is more content-driven.
Bhushan, who has co-produced the film with Krishan Kumar and Shital Bhatia, says, "It's always good to try out different things. We have done romantic films that were high on music recall. However, when I heard this script, which had action from start to end, there was no need for songs. The day I heard the narration, I knew I had to come on board." Neeraj says, " A film is about narrating an engaging and entertaining story to the audience. Some stories demand song and dance, while others work wonderfully without them. The essence and style of this film lend themselves to minimal distraction for songs."
Baby, presented by Gulshan Kumar and produced by T-Series, Friday Filmworks, Crouching Tiger and Cape of Good Films, releases January 23.
