CHAPTER 18

Mayank in the morning called her in order to wish her luck for the exam. Nupur after receiving the call left for the centre. She was waiting for it and was excited about meeting him.

Mayank after wishing left for office with a smile on his face.His voice today had a strange chirpiness which was noticed by all and most importantly he himself had noticed it and he even knew the reason for it. He was happy,he was excited for meeting her. He got up from his seat and stood next to the window in his cabin. While sipping his coffee a chain of thoughts started running through his mind ,her smile,her nervousness and 'her'.He was busy thinking about her when he heard a knock on the door. He sighed heavily as he dint want to stop thinking about her. It gave him a certain pleasure,certain soothing.
"Come in."
He said while making a face.
"Sir your meeting is about to start. Everyone is waiting for you in the meeting room."
"I am coming in a minute."
Saying this he sighed again and headed towards the room.
During the entire meeting he kept thinking about her,barely paying attention to what was going around.
He was lost that was evident to others as he always had the habit of participating in the meeting but today he was quiet.
After the meeting,he left the room without uttering a word and sat on his chair covering his face with his hands.
"Mayank main samjh sakta hoon tu Nupur se pyaar karta hai but aise you cannot lose your concentration. Work should always come first because work has been your priority. "
Saying this removed his hand and checked the time.

"Shit aaj main phir late hoon."

saying this he almost sprang up from his seat and ran out of his office.

"aaj agar tu late hua na mayank to tu gaya. Nupur tujhe zinda nahi choregi.late hoga kya tu already late hai 3:30 baj chuke hai."

Nupur was out of the room today and was expecting him to be standing but when she dint find him she was really disappointed. She wanted to call him and check where was he but then she dropped the idea. She stood outside the hall waiting for him and within 30 minutes he arrived.

He stopped his car right in front of her. She dint say anything then. She quietly sat in the car and the seriousness was felt by him. He knew she was angry and therefore he kept quiet.

No one spoke,neither Mayank nor Nupur,for the next 10 minutes. But finally Mayank broke the silence.

"NUpur I am sorry but main meeting mein tha aur nikal nahi paya."

He said defending himself.

"To maine kuch kaha tumse?"

Nupur asked firmly.

"But tum aise chup baithi ho gusse ko naak pe lekar."

He said while gradually decreasing his volume.

"Mayank main na to koi gusse main baithi hoon aur nahi main chup hoon.Main tumhari baton ka jawaab to de rahi hoon. na deti to tum keh sakte the"

"Nupur."

He said softly.

"Kya hai?"

She said in a loud tone which made him laugh.

"Tum has rahe ho?"

She asked in surprise.

"To tumhe kya lagta hai kya kar raha hoon."

"Mayank "

she said in a disgusted tone.

"Nupur"

He said while still enjoying her irritation.

Getting irritated she finally turned her face towards the window murmuring something.

"Nupur"

He called out to her but this time seriously,but on not receiving an answer he continued

"Dekho Nupur."

"Mujhe kuch nahi dekhna hai Mayank"

She said without turning around.

Mayank finally stopped the car and parked it at one end of the road.

"Acha dekho nahi sahi but sun to lo."

He waited for her to reply but when he dint get a response he continued

"Nupur I am sorry main jaan bujh kar late nahi hua.."

Before he could add more she turned around and added

"baat yeh hai ki tum bhul gaye the"

As she turned her eyes were red and as she spoke the tears forming could be seen. Mayank nearly froze seeing this scene and couldnt say anything. It was getting difficult for him to say anything.

"N-n-n- nahi Nupur main nahi bhula tha main manta hoon mujhse galti hui hai aur main aaj ek aur promise karta hoon aaj ke baad main kabhi bhi i mean it kabhi bhi late nahi aunga. I promise."

Nupur closed her eyes letting the tears fall.

"Nupur mujhe andaza hai ki kitni badi galti hui hai aaj mujhse but dil se sorry."

saying this he leaned to wipe her tears and cupping her face he continued

"Nupur agar main agli baar kabhi bhi late hua an to tum mujhe koi bhi koi bhi"

stressing on it

"koi bhi punishment de sakti ho. Soch lo kitna bada promise kar raha hoon main gala bas sulhi par hi hai mera."

She looked at him and smiled and said in a whispering tone

"Haan kafi bada wada hai but agar tum bhul gaye to?"

"Bond sign karwalo."

He replied promptly.

They both laughed and then again there was silence. Both were looking out of the window while the car stood in the same position as before.

"Nupur kyu na hum pani puri khane chale."

"Tum aur paani puri?"

She asked in a surprised tone.

"Haan aur then ice cream and a walk back towards the car beach se. Chalein?"

"Aisa mauka baar baar nahi ata chalo."

She said while smiling.
