Sanjay Dutt: Pleadging in front of Judge - Page 4

Actor Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for six years for illegal possession of arms by the TADA court in Mumbai today.

Rusi Mulla, convicted for aiding actor Sanjay Dutt to destroy an AK-56 rifle, was given benefit of Probation of Offenders Act.

Mulla will be released on payment of a bond of Rs 1 lakh and a surety of same amount.

Earlier, Dutt had arrived at the court this morning dressed in white kurta and jeans and accompanied by his lawyers. Visibly tense, he waved to mediapersons and fans before entering the TADA court situated in the high security Central Jail at Arthur Road in central Mumbai.

Dutt was convicted on November 28 last year under Arms Act for possessing an AK-56 rifle and 9mm Chinese make pistol, obtained from co-accused Abu Salem prior to the blasts.

His three friends, Rusi Mullah, Kersi Adjania, Yusuf Nallwala, were convicted for destroying the rifle in the foundry owned by Adjania.

What police could produce as an evidence was just a spring. The court accepted Sanjay's plea that he obtained the weapons for self-defence, as because of his father Sunil Dutt's work among riots-hit Muslim areas, the family was getting threats.

The court held his intention was not to commit a terrorist act, otherwise he could have come in the purview of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act.
