Look at initial days of SP in late 90s! They had made shows like Antaral, fabulous short series in Star Bestsellers, a show on culture called Gurukul, a show on arts, home, decor, cooking for women called Meri Saheli, a show like KBC which started trend of game shows, musical game shows like Chalti ka naam antakshari, Kisme kitna hai dum, horror show like Sss koi hai, crime reality show like Kahani jurm ki, acquired unique shows like A Mouthful of Sky, Train to Pakistan, Surabhi from Doordarshan.
It had variety!
It did gain popularity with family dramas like Kora Kaagaz, Saans, Kyunki, Kahani, Kasauti etc. But atleast it had variety in content!
I remember I watched Tulsi, Parvati etc not on their shows but on game shows like KBC, Khulja sim sim, Kismey kitna hai dum. Especially the festival special episodes.
How I wish we could have seen EHT cast in such shows! On screen enemies' camaraderie! But no. The channel has no more specials or good reality/game shows now. Just that yearly SPA.
Where are thrillers, horror shows, nonfiction, documentaries, film based shows, chat shows, game shows, kids shows on Star Plus now?
It just has Satyamev Jayate. What else?
Do they realise they have no more variety? Even in Kekta era in 2000s we had Shaka laka boom boom, Hatim, Kahani jurm ki, Khulja sim sim etc. Why nothing now?
Even if they start something different they end it abruptly. No one knows when Lakhon Mein Ek ended.
They have Masterchef but lace it with drama and nonsense only.
We have similar shows. No more festival specials, movie star concerts, game shows, other genres like shows for women, on health, travel, fashion, decor, lifestyle, kids, culture etc.
Nothing special on weekend either except repeats of their silly soaps or same old films.
Star Plus which was once a refreshing change from DD, Sony, Zee has now become a monotonous show all the way.
It's been couple of years I had stopped watching this channel. I was surprised to see shows like SMJ and Lakhon mein ek on it. EHT promos also surprised. Such shows were for Star One, LO. Not this.
By their interference in these shows (I bet they add rona dhona to SMJ) or by ending them suddenly they prove they are capable of only giving saas bahu shows.
Sorry but even romance and mytho do not last on this channel that much. This is the dame channel that had kicked out DKDM to other channel.
Arjun ended too. I remember nothing about conclusion of this story of the investigator.
Do they not know this simple fact that each genre has niche audience? Of course a kids show, youth show, thriller, crime based show etc might not get ratings of a saas bahu show. Does that mean it should be taken off air?
Sadly and ironically the channel is no. 1.🤢 Its success influenced other channels to follow its footsteps too though Colors, LO, Sony still try to give other genres like reality shows, fantasy, crime etc. Zee which was once an all rounder channel is also a twin of SP now though just a shade better.
Why? Why should millions across India and the world be deprived of different shows just due to 7000 TAM meters? How do channels believe that few TAM meters show what whole world watches?
This channel which had once started as differentiator is a virus now that sickened TV forever. Spread to other channels too.
And we are left with nothing at all except memories of good old days and hopes for their return.
Star has devolved. Degenerated. Even at peak of saas bahu this channel had more to offer than what it has now.
I do not repeat wish on EHT continuing to its original stipulated end. But I do wish we had seen them on shows like Khulja sim sim, KBC, Chalti ka naam antakshri or celebrity specials. Alas! The channel has nothing to offer. 🥱
Needs to be renamed Saas Bas. SB instead of SP.
