So much fuss has been made about Prashant Tamang going through the Galas in Indian Idol. He is a good singer and the music director of Anu Malik's stature has recognized him before by saying that he is easily amongst the top 3. His singing has not been as good as he had shown us before, but he is still a better singer than some of the remaining contestants. I wouldn't say that with the current performance, he deserves to lift the title but he deserves to be in the top 8, which he is, very justifiably.

When Sanjaya Malakar got into the top 10, I was so happy as a Nepali for the Indian neighbours. Singingwise, he was as bad as anybody could be. But it was a matter of pride to see someone with a southasian decent breaking into the American hall of fame. The case with Prashant is even different. First he is a good singer. Second he is an Indian citizen. Third he serves for Indian police, keeping the Indian citizens secure. Thus the continous dislike of him by a section of Indian public and even the judges regarding him as someone outsider has made me surprised.

The rule of the game is voting. Not only votes push a contestant ahead, but gives Sony and the Indian Idol producers a hell lot of money. So when eligible voters keep Prashant in the contest, it is very unprofessional of the judgest to express cynicism on the public voting. No one wants to spend their hard earned money to the singer who they don't like. As simple as that.

I am not sure if the Indian Idol is about finding a playback singer or a singing entertainer. A singing entertainer is someone who can earn Sony the revenues through concerts and tours. An entertainer cannot be a playback singer. Prashant has in him the qualities to be a very good playback singer, but I doubt him as a crowd puller. If this is about a singer who sings for Bollywood, producing classical hits and selling cds in millions, Prashant can be quite a successful star. So the comparny has to set his preference and guide the judges accordingly.

As for who gains the biggest businesss, Prashant is undoubtedly the best prospect of business for Sony. There are too many Indian playback singers and popstars already. And there will be many more Indian Idols of Indian decent. If Prashant comes out the winner in this competition, the business is guaranteed for at least 30 million Nepalese all around the world. His music will undoubtedly be sold out to the Nepalese who don't have a successful singer in Bollywood apart from Udit Narayan, who has now become one of their own. I am sure with their love, Prashant can equal Udit's success. If others win, well what has Sandeep Acharya and Abhijeet Sawant done so far? They have disappeared under the shadows of countless Indian stars. I bet Prashant will be a bigger success story than the previous idols, at least guaranteeing a big market in the Nepalese community worldwide.

In conclusion, although Amit has been the best singer so far and one might fancy him more than others, blaming Prashant for others' failure is unfair to him. Blaming Chang is also uncalled for. If Indians see their country in the ranks of other great countries, they should love Prashant and Chang as much as they do to other contestants. Because they are their own citizen, even though their complexions may look a little different from others.

Good day to you all.

I don't think people discriminate against Prashant and Chang. But I can't vote for someone just because he keeps the country safe. This is a singing contest and Prashant has been least consistent. Chang performed well in the first gala but has been sliding down after that. If he does work hard, he can still make it. But Prashant seems to have taken the contest lightly like Udit Ji said and now knows that people from his community and his colleagues will save him irrespective of how he sings.

Thanks guys for joining in. Prashant sings his heart out and he is one of the very few natural singers in the competition. And he is the most melodious of them all. The problem with him is his personality. He lacks a robust physique, he is not as outspoken as he needs to be and he is not very confident. So he doesn't look appealing to the viewers. He's got to work on these things if he is to win the competition.

I'd suggest him to do some gymworks daily or at least an hour's stretches everyday, eat properly, dress smart, talk more, learn to communicate wisely and chose suitable and popular songs. All these things are possible but someone needs to help him through.

If Indian Idol is about playback singing, there are only five contestants who can be one- Prashant, Amit, Emon, Deepali and Smita. Amongst all of them, Prashant is the most reliable, honest and down-to-earth singer. If groomed properly, he will be the biggest success-without a shred of doubt. Therefore Vote Prashant.
