CHAPTER 6. THE AFTERMATH OF LEG ATTACK!
DAY 3 OF THE TRAINING.
Dev took a sharp breath and gulped. Has anybody seen a hungry lion? Dev wondered. Take a look at my brother! He winced as Maan growled again while pacing the study room. And today he is going to chew someone into pieces and why do I get the feeling that Geet is going to be that person? He flinched as Maan let out another angry growl.
"Hua kya hai Bhai ko?", Annie whispered by his side.
Dev shrugged.
"Mujhe lagta hai he hasn't slept properly.", Annie continued, "Look at his eyes. Kitne laal hain! He hasn't slept at all it seems!"
"It seems so! No wonder he is growling and more agitated than usual!", Dev whispered back, "I wonder what got him so spooked out that he could not sleep?"
Now it was Annie's turn to shrug.
They continued to watch as Maan pacing growling and grumbling. About what? They had no idea. Right as the clock struck 8, Geet entered the room in hurried pace. Her eyes were red too but Dev and Annie knew her reason. She had complained to Annie late last night that Maan was making her read Pride & Prejudice in one sitting. Annie had already informed Dev about this new assignment and they both pitied Geet for facing Maan's wrath.
Maan looked up as soon as Geet entered but looked away as the image of her in the bathtub flashed through his mind. Maan had never been as much annoyed as he was now with Geet. Yesterday, whenever he had free time Geet's legs assaulted his mind making him very angry at himself. Luckily, he was able to throw himself into work and was able to forget Geet for a while. But once he was in his bed, the legs assaulted him making him unable to sleep. Hence, it was a sleep deprived Maan Singh Khurana who was glaring at an almost half asleep Geet. Geet just looked at him blearily and then ignored his expression promptly. She was so used to his rude and angry attitude that his glaring left no effect on her. She simply yawned and waited for his instructions.
"Today you will practice walking on heels!", Maan announcing barely suppressing his anger. It would do him no good being angry at the girl, he surmised when it was his fault he walked into her room without knocking. He promised himself that he will ever enter anyone's room without knocking; especially Geet's. God knows what he will see next! His fist clenched as his brain tried to remind of her long legs. Yes! It was his stupidity to go barging in that crazy girl's room. And he paid for it by staying sleepless the whole night. Maan pushed all the images of Geet's legs into a room in his brain and locked it up tightly; he did not want to think about her legs anymore. Pushing his indecent thoughts away, Maan turned his focus on Geet's training.
Geet perked up at Maan's announcement. Walking on heels? That's it? Arre waah! She grinned at Maan, "Bas? That's it? I can walk on heels! My job as waitress had... Errr...", she bit her lip trying to explain herself. She rephrased her sentence in her mind and spoke again, "In my job I had to wear heels so walking on heels is...uh...", she searched for the right words and then spoke up smiling brightly, "not a big deal. Yes! Walking on heels is not a big deal!"
Maan blinked at the smile on her face and then smirked at her, "Oh really?"
Geet nodded eager to prove herself.
"Good! Then I am sure you won't mind trying these for me!", he mocked her as he pulled out a six inch heeled stilettos. Geet's jaw dropped open. Itna lamba heels? Hey Babaji! She was used to wearing heels but never stilettos and never this long. Babaji! Ab aap hi bachaao mujhe! Save me! She looked at the heels worriedly and then at smug looking Maan. She narrowed her eyes at him in anger. Khadus! He seemed to be enjoying this situation a lot!
But Geet was not the one to back out of challenges! She grabbed the heels and removing her sandals she put on the heels and stood on it proudly looking at Maan as if saying See! I did it!' But Maan's smirk grew wider making Geet gulp. Why do I feel I am missing out on something? Hey Babaji!
Maan pulled out a stack of heavy books and placed them on Geet's head. Geet staggered at the weight, teetering a bit but her tight hold on the nearby table stopped her from falling.
Maan folded his arms against his chest and looked at her with challenge, saying only one word, "Walk!"
Geet's jaw dropped open in shock. But it was not only Geet who was shocked.
"Bro! Have you gone mad?", Dev shouted. Already Geet was stumbling on 6 inch heels. To walk in it with four heavy books on her head, would be catastrophe waiting to happen.
"Bhai! This is ridiculous!", Annie protested. What if Geet twisted and sprained her ankle due to the weight or worse; fractured it? Oh God!
Geet stopped them, "Nahi! I have to do it! Sir is challenging me! I accept it!", saying her piece she glared at him. Maan raised his eyebrows, impressed by the girl's attitude.
Both Annie and Dev stood up readying themselves to catch Geet if she fell. But Geet held her head high and slowly started walking. She completed one round of the room and came to stand by Maan. "Dekha Sir! Now tell me! Did I pass your exam?"
Maan rolled his eyes, "This was not an exam Geet! You have a habit of walking too fast as if you are always in hurry. Walking with heels and books on the head would make you walk cautiously. It will make you walk with grace and also stop you from slamming into people and things. Samjhi?"
Geet nodded as she realised what Maan was aiming for. She took a deep breath and started walking earnestly. But just then bad luck struck her and her leg twisted making her fall. She closed her eyes waiting to hit the floor and pain to start only to feel someone grab her waist. She opened her eyes and they widened as she took in the scene in front of her. Maan had grabbed her while she fell and was now holding her in his arms. She felt shiver go through her at the intensity of Maan's stare. His eyes seemed to be focused on her face. She gulped as she noticed something; did his eyes look at my lips or did I imagine that? She bit her lip and it shocked her to know that it was not her imagination. His eyes had actually flickered to her lips. Hey Babaji!
Dev's subtle clearing of his throat brought Maan back to the real world and he, flustered by Geet in his arms, pulled away and stumbled few steps back.
THWACK!
Geet was on the floor. She looked at the floor wide eyed and then at Maan in shock. Did he just drop her? Hey Babaji! Maan looked everywhere but did not look at the persons in the room. Annie and Dev looked at Geet and Maan to and fro. What the hell had happened here? Geet simply sat on the floor confused and hurt. Ouch! My back is paining!
Finally Maan gathered himself, shouted at Geet, "Get up and start practicing! I am off to Office!", instructed Annie to help her and stormed away. Dev looked at Annie and shrugged as he followed Maan. Maan had only one thought in his mind the whole day; what the hell had happened there? The other three were confused for a while but forgot the incident and went back to their routine. But Maan could not forget Geet in his arms or her wide eyes staring at him.
Later in the evening, Maan was seated in his chair in the study room. Anyone who saw him would have thought that he was reading the report in front of him. But if anyone got closer, they would notice that he was actually dozing. Yes! Maan Singh Khurana was dozing. You see, not sleeping the whole night had left him very tired by the evening and hence while going through some of his reports he dozed off.
After few minutes of dozing off, Maan woke up to see Geet standing at the door to his study. He blinked a bit in surprise but then his eyes widened as he took in Geet fully. Her hair was left open on her shoulder, her face done in make up with her eyes having the smoky look. But that was not what shocked him. Geet was wearing a burnt orange colored dress which molded to her curves making Maan gulp. But that was also not what shocked Maan. What shocked Maan was the dress came barely to her mid thigh and showed off her legs very well. His eyes were locked onto those legs that went on and on and ended with the high heels he had given Geet in the morning. She took a step ahead making Maan pull his eyes off her legs and look at her in shock. She gave him a smirk as she walked towards him as if she knew how he was feeling while looking at her legs. Maan was unable to breathe as Geet came to his desk, hopped onto it, and crossed her legs giving him a good view of them. His eyes refused to move from her legs as he stared at them unashamedly. He slowly raised his hand to touch them when -
Maan woke up from his dream and looked around in confusion. He was still seated in his chair in his study but there was no Geet around. Was he dreaming? He looked around in confusion. Damn! I was actually dreaming about Geet and her long legs! Shit! He clenched his fists frustrated at himself. Why did he think about that damn bloody girl so much? He had seen so many girls in his life. Why did this one chit of a girl affect him so much? But Maan knew the answer. This was the only girl who had the guts to face him. She was the only girl who faced his challenges head on and did not flinch at his rude attitude. Of course, she had very creamy and beautiful long legs too.
It annoyed Maan that his mind went back to Geet's legs. Annoyed at himself he almost did not notice Geet enter the room.
"WHAT?", he roared as he looked up at her, "What do you want?"
Startled by his sudden anger it took Geet a while to reply, "I came here to return your book!" Saying this, she kept the Pride & Prejudice book and turned to walk away.
Maan, taken over by his anger, barked out, "You have read the whole thing?"
Geet turned and nodded, "Yes Sir! I stay awake the whole night but read it fully!"
"Stayed, not stay! It is past tense!", Maan corrected automatically.
Geet nodded and gave him a smile.
Maan had enough of her cheery attitude. How dare she ruin his good mood but smile so happily! Wait! I will teach you a lesson. Maan went over to his books and pulled out some more books and slammed them in front of her, "These are all Jane Austen's books! Sense & Sensibility, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion and Mansfield Park! Read all of them in two days!"
"In two days?", Geet squeaked.
"Haan! Bada excite ho rahi thi na Pride & Prejudice padhne ko! Ab usi author ke baaki saare novels bhi padho! (Yes! You seemed to be very excited to read P&P, right? Now read rest of the novels written by the same author!) ". Maan stormed off in anger to his room leaving behind a shell shocked Geet.
All these books in two days? Hey Babaji! How will I do it? Geet frowned. Chalo Geet dear! Lets read some old books! It seems I will be doing nothing but read books the next two days. She took one look at the books and huffed. Bye Bye afternoon nap! It seems I will be staying awake a lot for the next two days.
NOTE:
And if you are disappointed to find this update without comedy, then please remember that the story is romantic comedy. I need to let the romance progress too!
