Keshi Vadh--The Crocodile Test

Sage Narad Used To Roam Around The Universe To Collect News And Deliver It To His Lord, Narayan. It Did Not Matter Whether His Lord Knew Everything Or Not, He Always Listened To Narad And Laughed With Him At The Silly Solutions The Humans Found Out To Their Day To Day Problems. That Day, Narad Was Speaking Of Some Merchant, Who Killed His Nephew To Get The Total Share Of The Ancestral Wealth. Narad Was Saying, "But Lord, How Could He Have Killed His Uncle, When He Could Easily Get The Same Amount Of Money With Hard Work ?" Narayan Replied, "I Don't Know Narad. That Shows How Little I Know Of My Own Creation. I Gave Them Some Values And They Transformed It Into Such A Mess, That Even I Get Confused About The Right And Wrong When I Judge Them. But Till Where This Crime, Of Killing Nephews Is Concerned, I'll Show The World, Very Soon,What Exactly Is The Outcome, For An Uncle Who Even Dares To Think Of Trying To Harass His Nephew." The Master And The Servant Laughed Away While Laxmi Stared At Them Hopelessly. She Slowly Pinched Narayan On His Left Foot. "Ouch," Said Narayan, "But The Reason Why I Summoned You Here Today Is, You Go And Give My Dear Uncle Kans Some Tension. Tell Him Where I Am, And How To Drag Me To Him."

Kans Was Speaking To His Ministers, "Chanur, Send That Horse Of A Keshi To Gokul. He Shouldn't Return To Mathura Before Killing That Krishna. I'm Sure Of The Fact That He's Of Much Danger To Us In Future." The Ministers Left To Carry Out The King's Order, When Narad Appeared, "Hail My Lord Narayan, King. How Is Your Kingdom ?"
"Fine, As Of Now." Kans Said Rather Meekly. He Had Heard Many Stories, How This Sage Had Destroyed The Empires Of Many Powerful Kings By A Simple Talk. "What Can I Do For You ?" Asked He. Narad Loved Acting, "No, No King, I've Come, Just To Save Your Life. I Just Heard That You Sent Keshi To Kill That Pest Of A Boy, Krishna, You Did Just The Correct Thing. But You Should Have Been Quicker. That Boy's A Threat To Your Life, Because," Narad Paused, Relishing Every Moment Of Kans' Growing Anxiety And Terror, "Because, He Is The Eighth Son Of Devaki And Vasudev. But Wait, Do Not Harass Them, They Know Nothing Of This. Maybe, They'll Like To Know About It Someday Later. And, Kans, Balraam, The Brother Of Krishna, Is Actually The Seventh Son Of Devaki, Transferred To Rohini, To Quicken The Arrival Of Krishna." Kans Was Absolutely Terrified By Now. He Asked, "Devarshi, What Should I Do Now ?"
"Kill Him."
"Kill Him ? But He Has Been Killing Every Single One Of The Demons I Sent To Gokul."
"That Is Because He Had The Support Of All The Cowherds' Love And Prayers With Him. Cut The Support Of His Family And He Will Be At Your Feet."
"Huh ? I Did Not Get It. Could You Please Explain ?"
"You Arrange For The Bow-Yajna, And Invite The Two Of Them Here, Away From All His Friends, And Then Finish Them Off."
Kans' Eyes Glinted With Cruelty, As His Mind Immediately Raced Over All The Possible Punishments He Could Impose On The Kid When They Were 'At His Feet' As Sage Narad Put It. Narad Went Away Satisfied.

In Gokul, Krishna Was Just About To Eat The First Morsel Of Food When He Heard The Cowherds Screaming, "SAVE US KANHA !! THAT HORSE WILL KILL US !!" He Threw Back The Food On The Plate And Ran Out Of The House. He Saw His Friends Wriggling In Pain As The Horse Had Trampled Over Them. His Eyes Filled Up With Tears Seeing His Friends In Such Great Pain. He Quickly Healed Them And Ran Towards The Horse. He Turned Keshi Around With His Tail, His Eyes Red With Rage. Both Of Them Were Equal In Their Anger And Strength, But the Difference Was In Their Motive - Keshi Had A Destructive Aura Around Him, While Krishna Wanted To Extract His Revenge From Keshi In The Form Of His [Keshi's] Life. Krishna Leaped Forward And Inserted His Hand Inside Keshi's Mouth. Krishna's Hand Burned Like Lighted Charcoal Inside Keshi's Throat And He Started To Vomit Blood. Krishna Then Increased The Size Of His Hand Till He Was Able To Break The Trachea Of The Demon. The Demon Now Laid Dead At His Feet. Krishna Sighed And Went Over To River Yamuna To Wash Off His Hand. He Was Sure That He Wouldn't Be Eating Anything With His Hand For The Next Few Weeks.

In Sage Dron's Gurukul, All The Princes Made Great Prowess In Different Fields. Someone Was Excellent With The Scriptures, While Some Shone With Their Deftness With The Sword, And Some Won Over The Heart Of The Teacher With Their Bow Of Intelligence And Arrow Of Humility. He Decided To Take A Test Of The Hearts Of The Princes. "Antahkaran, Or Your Heart, Does Not Only Refer To The Divine Spark Within Us, Or The Willingness To Love Others, Though These Two Qualities Lay The Foundation Of Our Hearts. It Includes Courage, Valour, Will Power And Most Importantly, Ready-wit. You Should Always Know What You Have To Do In The Next Moment. There's No Need To plan Everything From Beforehand, You May, And Will Face Absolutely Unexpected Situations In Your Lives, And If You Have Learnt Anything From Me, You'll Get Your Wit By Your Side, Always." Explained Dron.

Next Morning, As Sage Dron Prayed To Lord Surya, The Boys Played Around In The Water Albeit Not Making Any Sound. Suddenly All Of Them Turned As They Heard A Loud Shout. A Crocodile Had Seized One Leg Of Dron, And He Called Out To The Boys To Apply Their Knowledge And Do Something To Save Him. Everyone Rushed Around In Panic To Find A Weapon Of Use. Duryodhan Said, "SIR, Don't Worry, I'll Go Over To he Ashram And Bring My Golden Mace !! I Will Save You !"
"OF COURSE, SON, If I Live Till That Auspicious Moment When You Will Save Me !!" Dron Shouted Back. Bheem Lifted Up A Huge Stone But Yudhishthir Managed To Stop Him From Hurling It At The Crocodile. Sahdev And Dushhasan Bumped Against Each Other And Sat There Arguing And Shouting.

But No One Had Seen Young Arjun Quietly Tying A Piece String To A Curved Branch Of The Peepal Tree Nearby. Arjun Shocked Everyone By Appearing In The Midst Of The Crowd With His Strange-looking Bow. He Took Out The Spare Dagger He Always Kept With Him. He Fixed His Aim On The Head Of The Crocodile, And Shot. He Smiled As The Dagger Hit The Crocodile Exactly Where He Had Aimed.

Guru Dron Took Out His Leg From The Beast's Mouth And Pulled Arjun Into An Embrace. He Then Said To All His Students, "Children, Look At The Crocodile." Everyone Stared Surprised As The Crocodile Had Disappeared. "That Was Not A Real Animal, Princes. I Had Set It There On Purpose. I Wanted To Test, That How Many Of You Have Learnt What I Spoke About, Yesterday. Arjun Has Succeeded. He Did Not Panic Like You Did. He Sat And Thought Out A Brilliant Plan To Rescue Me, At The Same Time, Being Quick Enough To Execute His Plan Before It Was Too Late. And I Should Thank Yudhishthir For A Special Help. He Stopped Bheem From Throwing That Stone At Me. This Is Exactly What Happens If You Do Not Think Carefully. And Oh, Duryodhan, Come In Front, Will You ? Now Where's Your Golden Mace With Which You Were Going To Save Me ?"
"Aah, Sir, I Couldn't Find It. Someone Has Hid It."
"Someone Has Hid It ? Son, You Seem To Forget That I Had Confiscated Bheem's And Your Maces For A Week After The Great Fight You Had."
Everyone Roared In Laughter While Duryodhan Murmured Something About Teaching All Of Them A Pretty Good Lesson One Of The Days.
