'Perfect' magazine covers - The truth???

Here is something I came across while just randomly surfing through blogs and other sites....

This here is the cover of the July 2007 issue of Redbook - a supposedly "intellectual" magazine (are any of these magazines anything but a good read on the latest shades of eyeshadow and lip gloss to match your blue shoes?? Don't get me wrong, I am a red blooded girl and I love lip gloss and shoes as much as any other normal girl.... I'm not some kinda psycho who goes around telling people to melt their make up and protest against the cosmetic indutry and all that... To each, his/her own!!! Everyone needs a lil "zing" to add to their features! )

Just another normal looking women's magazine cover, right? An amazingly beautiful, well known woman, looking flawless... But want to see the truth?

Here it is:

Yep... That's the real Faith Hill... Not the one in the cover... See the difference? Lemme point out a few of them, that I saw...

Eyes : Slightly reddish, have lines around them... Completely clear and line-less on the cover...
Nose : Straightened it out a bit...
    Laughlines around mouth: lightened them...
    Jaw : Reduced a bit...
    Neck : Folds all gone...
Collarbone (clavicle): Made it look more healthy, as Faith seems to be quite skinny there...
Back : The slight bulge has been all photoshopped out to make way to a PERFECTLY straight back....
  1. I saved the worst for the last: Her arms... What have they done to her arms?!?!!? They were perfectly HEALTHY looking before... On the cover it looks like there's some sort of STICK hanging from her shoulders.... And also her right hand has been turned into an arm... WHY!?

Seeing this cover really shocked me... Like most other girls, I have often wistfully flipped through the pages of these glossy magazines and wished I looked a little more like them... But this, this really opened my eyes...

What is with our generation and media's obsession with being thin and absolutely perfect looking?? Why is this "stick thin" figure being promoted... To me, the non photoshopped Faith Hill looked much better... She looked more HUMAN! For godssakes, she's a woman in her 40's... She can be expected to have a few lines around her eyes??? If you notice, the rest of the cover also screams about SLIMMING PILLS, and "FEELING YOUR SEXIEST"...

Personally, I think curvy and full bodied women are more beautiful than the stick thin, frail looking ones... I'd pick America Ferrera over Kate Moss anyday...

I think this is quite a questionable practise... Is being thin and perfect looking all there is to life? Afterall, looks are a superficial asset... One accident and they could all be marred.... And isn't the example of Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan enough to illustrate the examples of "thin, beautiful girls, with everything going their way, having it all crash down on them?" I think being a well rounded, morally intelligent individual is more the person the media should be promoting - but alas, that seems not to be the case right now...

What I'd really love to see is a leading magazine like Cosmopolitan or any other famous one, do a whole issue using non photoshopped images, and prove to us that celebs and models are just human after all, and have their own flaws, and not add to this craaazy trend in our society...

Do I wish I was thinner? Yes, of course I do... But do I want arms like Faith up there, on the cover?? No thank you, I'd like to keep my slightly chubby upper arms than look like that...

I'd really like to see your opinions/comments on this!

Nimmi 😊

thats really shocking!!!

I used to think thay they just airbrush the faces but I didnt know that they even change the shape of body parts to make them look perfect...

You're right about britney, lindsay etc...instead of envying them...most ppl feel sorry for them now..

I know kate moss is superthin...but I still like her style...she doesnt try to look perfect or made-up all the time....

I think the magazine editors shud give photoshop a rest...and just put natural pics of women on the covers...it wud be alot more encouraging for the models and the general public 😳

😆 😆 at least Faith Hill can't claim that she looks far better in her mirror than on the coverpage of Redbook.

Let's face it, airbrushing is here to stay. people want to see glamorous people in movies (if the script demands it) and in magazines. nothing wrong in that. we should just think how good we would look if our pics were airbrushed 😉 Problem arises when women/girls want to look like these airbrushed pics of the models and end up developing a low self esteem as a result 😊

will be back with more thoughts later. nice topic 😊

i was about to say almost the same thing gauri, this is not shocking, but pity on some of those high school girls who use cosmopolitan and such other mags and treat them as their textbooks.

I agree @ the textbook.

Idealistically, looking pretty is not all there is to life. But realisitically, we all want a slim figure and want to look good. I don't think one should go nuts about looking like a star but overall, I feel that outer beauty does give some confidence to the inner self. By this, I don't mean that that's all one needs to think about. Eating and staying healthy enhances the outer look and that in turn, enhances a little bit of the inside. So, I think looking good and healthy is necessary but looking oh-so-pretty all the time is impossible and girls needs to get this straight in their bhejas.

Great topic. We all know how the whole "magic pics" pop up. The sad thing is that so many young girls or even women look at those and out goes their confidence. It's rather sad. But it is one of those Entertainment things; always make celebrities bigger than life! And sadly enough, it has lasted and it will stay here forever probably! I think the only actress to ever have her pic in magazine without airbrushing is that Jamie Lee Curtis; I say hats off to her for having guts to do that.
That is why I love those Dove commercials. The campaign for real beauty is very inspiring and well 'cute'.
