I guess the ghost possessed her and they used Avni's multiple-personality disorder to explain why she couldn't remember the things she did while possessed? The ghost created another personality within her, I guess, that her other personality didn't remember or associate with. It's weird and nonsensical. 😆

in the movie akki explained that avni was fascinated by stories of kings and queens as a child and that came back to her once she came to the palace. when she heard the stories about manjulika she started connecting with her and akki did the drama of being a king and doing the hawan to get her out of the manjulika state. i dont think there was a ghost.

Akshay's character made it seem like the illness automatically taught her Bengali and how to dance like Manjulika...never understood how that is possible.

yep, that was basically the whole key point to how she took on that persona. ultimately it was a multiple personality thing and somehow she identified with this story and ultimately came to embody it...as to how she picked up other things like language or dance, it could have been things picked up subconsiously. ive seen both bhool bhulaiya and the original malayalam movie its based on (manichitrathazhu) the mallu version was better in my opinion.

I think there was a ghost because they experienced some happenings before as well. And remember the ghost wanted to take revenge by killing the Raja which is Shiney because in the past, they didn't let her get together with her lover. So, Manjulika possessed Vidya's body to take revenge on Shiney.

I think Vidya's psychological illness played the part too as she couldn't remember the happenings with her.

Thats what I gather from my memory🤔

Well, being a psychology student, the most possible explanation could be this..

BB makes a reference to parapsychology which has no scientific proof. It is basically a debate between a belief and a reason. Ghosts certainly do not exist BUT human psyche is there. Avni as a child used to listen to fictitious tales of kings, queens, fairies and probably ghosts as well. And when she came to that palace and heard of the stories of Manjulika.. she started taking interest so much so that she started believing that she herself is the manjulika. And she was an archaeologist too.. and therefore her interest in the ancient tales, foibles and the things related to them is quite understandable.

There is a spirit definitely else if it was just an illness then how did avni pull her bed in air, why did that girl go mute after seeing something mysterious etc. So, it's just a matter of belief.. I would say.
