Halloween has an utterly intriguing past - it's origins belongs back to several years. Essentially, Halloween is a celebration of superstition and myths. Many believe the festivaloriginated with the ancient Gaelic festival- Samhain.
During this festival, many would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward of roaming ghosts and also attract insects and, wait for it... bats (consider bats the animal emblem of Halloween). Talk about freaky! You see, the Gaelic believed that on October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead would break, causing the dead to create both havoc and damage for the living world.
Well.. That's some intense stuff.

However, in the eighteenth century Pope Gregory III designated a holiday on November 1st (All Saints Day) with similar characteristics to Samhain. Overtime, the evening before All Saints Day became known as Halloween, the day dedicated to ghosts and urmm...pumpkins.

Ultimately, Halloween has evolved in more ways than one; new traditions, superstitions and activities have been announced and practiced during the day. The festival has become dramatized and advertised excessively over the years. Halloween is now thoroughly popular in countries like; The United States, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom, along with many other nations.
Currently Halloween is one of the most sought after festivals- it encompasses energy, excitement, and of course- tricks and treats.
