N ot all love stories have a happy ending. The diarist recently heard one such story about the granddaughter of a big Bollywood clan which also counts itself among the best theatre patrons in the city. Recently, the young woman - in true Bollywood style - fell in love with an impoverished out-oftowner playwright who was living in Dharavi and worked in their theatre. As it always happens, word soon reached papa, who tried dissuading her. When the daughter refused to heed him, the father - again in true Bollywood style - wrote to a senior police official on his letterhead claiming that the poor chap was stalking his daughter. The cops promptly picked up the young man and gave him the famous Mumbai police treatment. When time came for filing a proper FIR, however, the father developed cold feet. Worried that they may get themselves in a soup for illegal detention, the cops quickly, and discretely, released the young man with a 'warning.' The experience has left the youngster shaken and though he is still in Mumbai, he refuses to go back to the theatre.
