KaBhi OS: Our Karva Chauth
Aditya Gupta married to his college girlfriend of 5 years Aditi Sharma 6 months ago. They r 23 now. They live in Mumbai. They both r mechanical engineers. They did their engineering 4m a Delhi Institute. They both married a year after getn settled in their jobs. They fell in love in their 1st year of college. Aditya proposed her on Valentine's Day while they were still in their 1st year. Both r modern broad-minded. Aditya is d son of doctor Raj Gupta and a college professor Radhika Gupta. He has a younger brother Ayaan and a younger sister Anushka. Aditi is d daughter of Raman Sharma who is a lawyer and Rita Sharma who runs a catering business. Aditi has a younger sister Anita and a younger brother named Aakash. Raj n Radhika instantly liked Aditi wen Aditya brought her to meet his parents before their 2nd year. Raman n Rita too liked Aditya. They were soon engaged. They decided to get them married only after they got their jobs after their college.
2day is Karva Chauth. Karva Chauth festival wen a wife fasts for her husband's well being n long life. D women eats d food before sunrise. After dat, she does not eats n drinks anything 4m sunrise till moonrise. D women dresses up as brides n do some kind of poojas in mandir or their home mandir. An elderly lady narrates a story of karva chauth. After moonrise, they 1st see d moon thru a sieve. Then they see their husband's face thru dat sieve. Then d husband breaks her fast by making take 1st morsel of food n 1st sip of water.
Aditya n Aditi got up in d morning before sunrise Aditi was d 1st who went to bath. As Aditi was bathing, Aditya was sitting on d bed n thinking abt Aditi doing her 1st Karva Chauth 2day for him. They don't believe in many traditions n customs. Still, Aditi told him yesterday dat even if they don't believe in Karva Chauth its just a matter of a day in a year n she sud do it to give everyone company. Asad can't digest d fact dat he vl eat while his wife can't eat or drink anything before seeing d moon. She can't even drink water. Why sud only a wife keep karva chauth? Doesn't a husband want his wife's well being n long life?
Aditi came out of d bathroom in a bathrobe. Aditya lukd at her wid a smile. Aditi too smiled at him.
"Aditya, stop lukn at me n go for bathing," said Aditi.
"If I don't luk at u then who vl I luk?" asked Aditya wid a smile.
"Aditya, just go," said Aditi firmly.
Aditya went inside d bathroom before smiling again at Aditi. Aditi dressed up in a red top n jeans. She was among d modern women who normally dressed in modern clothes n wore Indian clothes very less n for occasions. Her in-laws don't have problems wid dat as they too r broad-minded. Aditya came out of d bathroom. He dressed in a black shirt n jeans.
"Aditi, u don't need to do karva chauth. U know v don't believe in it," said Aditya.
"Aditya, I told u its just a matter of a day in a year n I am doing it to just give everyone a company," said Aditi.
"I can't see u widout food n water till moonrise. If u want to keep karva chauth then I too vl keep it. Why only u vl fast for me? Don't I want ur well being n long life? Husbands n wives r supposed to be equal. I love you a lot. So, I vl fast wid u," said Aditya.
Zoya knew dat he loves her a lot but she cud not believe wat he said. He vl fast along wid her. Its so sweet of him. He truly loves her. Not all husbands fast wid their wives.
"Really Aditya?" asked Aditi wid a smie, "I can't believe dat u vl fast wid me."
"Yaa Aditi, I am not among those husbands who vl eat to his heart's content while his wife vl starve," replied Aditya wid a smile.
Aditi hugged him happily. He hugged her back.
"Aditya, now I have to go n eat food cuz after sunrise I can't have anything before seeing d moon," said Aditi.
"I am also cumn wid u," said Aditya.
They went to d hall where other family members along wid some friends n relatives were sitting. Aditi's family had also come.
"Good morning Aditya n Aditi," said Radhika wid a smile.
"Good morning mom," said Aditya n Aditi wid a smile.
They sat on d couch.
"Aditi, have these foods," said Radhika wid a smile.
"Mom, I too vl have food wid Aditi as I too vl fast wid her," said Aditya.
D friends n relatives r shocked while Aditya n Aditi's family smiled.
"Dats very nice, beta," said Raj wid a smile.
"How can a husband fast along wid a wife?" asked a curly haired woman shockingly.
"Wats wrong for a husband to fast along wid his wife?" asked Aditya.
"Beta, how vl u live widout food n water d entire day?" asked a very fat relative shockingly.
"D same way Aditi vl live all day widout food n water," replied Aditya calmly.
"But only a wife fasts not husband," said a plump woman wid lots of make up shockingly.
"First of all, I and Aditi don't believe in dis ritual. But Aditi wanted to do as its just a matter of a day in a year. I hate d fact dat only wives fasts while their husbands eat to their heart's content. Why can't they live widout food n water for a day if their wives can do in d name of love? D wives do it for their husband's well being n long life. Don't they loves their wives? Don't they think abt their well being n long lives? If a husband truly loves his wife then he sud have no problem to fast wid her. I can't believe dat being women u all r talking such nonsense n being unequal to wives n husbands," said Aditya.
Those women n other relatives r shocked while his n Aditi's family smiled proudly. But d women were in no mood to stop their nonsense.
"How can she wear jeans even 2day?" asked d very fat woman, "2day d women r supposed to dress like a bride wid jewelleries."
"She never wears sindoor n mangalsutra not even 2day," said d woman wid lots of make up.
"If she does not wears sindoor n mangalsutra then no one vl think her married," said d woman wid curly hair.
"Is it necessary to dress like a bride n wear jewelleries all d day? Aditi vl wear them in d evening during d ritual. I can't see her uncomfortable in these heavy clothes n jewelleries all day. Why u all have problems wid Aditi wearing modern clothes even after marriage? Does men wear dhoti n kurta after marriage cuz shirt, pants, t-shirts, jeans r also modern? As for wearing sindoor n mangalsutra, its everyone's choice n v sud respect dat. Its 21st century n everyone has rights to do wat they wants. Wat do u mean by no one vl think her married if she does not wears sindoor n mangalsutra? There r many married women in 2days times who dress up like Aditi. Does anyone ever asked a man why don't he wear sindoor, mangalsutra or any other signs to show everyone dat he is married? Why only a woman sud make everyone believe dat she is married by wearing these things? Why not men? Does it means dat he is free to roam around like unmarried men?" asked Aditya.
D women r again shocked.
"As Aditya earlier said, being women u both r not stopping ur nonsense talks. U all just expect others to follow ur ridiculous rituals n ideologies," said Aditi.
"Aditya, Aditi, lets eat now," said Radhika wid a smile.
"Mom, these women r just wasting our times wid unnecessary talks," said Aditi.
"Beta, calm down n have food," said Radhika wid a smile.
They all had food.
"Anushka, Anita, u both also have these food. U both sud also fast so dat u both get nice husbands," said d very fat woman.
"D married women r doing dis ritual. Dats only enough," said Rita.
"There is no need for Anushka n Anita to do all dis," said Raman.
"If Anushka n Anita sud do dis according to u so dat they get good husbands then v sud also do dis so dat v get good wives," said Ayaan.
"Ayaan is right, u all better stop wid ur stupid gender discrimination," said Aakash.
"By d way, I am not interested in doing all these stuffs. But I can eat less as bhaiya n bhabhi r not at all eating," said Anushka.
"Anushka is right," said Anita, "Since di n jeeju r not along wid their parents r not at all eating then v can eat less but don't expect us to do karva chauth."
D women shut their mouth while Guptas n Sharmas smiled.
Scene shifts to Aditya n Aditi's room.
"Aditya, I can't believe these women talks such nonsense things. Wat d hell they r trying to say? Dat wives r superior than husbands?" asked Aditi furiously.
"Aditi, calm down. Don't pay attention to these women. They don't have any work. So, they only talk nonsense," said Aditya calmly cupping her face wid both her hands.
"Wow, bhaiya n bhabhi's romance has started," said Ayaan cheerfully cumn inside their romance startling Aditya n Aditi.
Aditya puts his hands down. Ayaan n Anushka came inside.
"Wat d hell, Ayaan? Don't u have manners to knock?" asked Aditya sternly.
"Bhaiya, u and bhabhi sud put a sign of DO NOT DISTURB on ur door weneva u both romance. So dat, v don't come inside n disturb ur romance," said Anushka wid a laugh.
"Shut up, Anushka," said Aditi annoyingly, "U talk anything."
Anita n Aakash came inside.
"Wats going on here?" asked Askash.
"Bhaiya n bhabhi were romancing n we disturbed them," replied Ayaan wid a smile.
"Oh ho ho, so di n jeeju were romancing. Carry on, v all sud not disturb both of u," said Anita wid a smile.
"Just shut all of u, guys," said Aditi, "I was furious wid those irritating women n was talking abt d same wid Aditya. And he was just calming down. Dats it."
"Don't give a damn to those fools, bhabhi," said Anushka.
"Dats wat I was telling ur bhabhi," said Aditya.
"Well, v sud not spoil our mood cuz of them," said Aditi wid a smile.
In d afternoon, all d ladies were getn their hands n legs decorated wid mehendi. Even Anushka n Anita were getn their hands n legs applied wid mehendi cuz they loved mehendi n they also wanted to give company to other ladies. Aditya was sitting near Aditi as she was being applied mehendi. Ayaan n Aakash were sitting on other couch. Ayaan was smiling at Anita while Aakash was smiling at Anita. Ayaan n Anita liked each other. Also, Aakash n Anushka like each other. Ayaan n Anita were in their last year of college while Aakash n Anushka had just started their college. After applying d mehendis, d ladies were waiting for their mehendis to get dried. Aditya who sitting near Aditi was caressing her back. No one cud see him doing dat. Aditi knew dat he was taking of her mehendi.
"Aditya, stop it," whispered Aditi.
"No," whispered Aditya.
"U r takn advantage of my mehendi knowing dat I can't stop u," whispered Aditi.
"U very smart, Aditi," whispered Aditya wid a smirk.
Aditi blushed. Aditya stopped his teasing after some time. After their mehendis dried, d women washed them.
"Aditi, ur mehendi luks nice n deep," said Radhika wid a smile.
"It shows dat Aditya loves her a lot," said Rita wid a smile.
Aditi n Aditya along wid others smiled at dis.
In d evening, Aditi dressed in a stylish saree wid a sleeveless blouse. She n other women were decorating their pooja thalis. After dat, they covered their heads wid a red chunri n went in d garden wid their pooja thalis. They all sat in a circle. Men also came in d garden n sat near them. Anushka n Anita were sitting wid men as they were not doing karva chauth. An elderly woman narrated a karva chauth story to everyone. Everyone did some pooja.
Wen d moon had risen, everyone got up. They 1st saw d moon thru a sieve. Then they saw their husband's face. Aditi did d same wid Aditya. Aditya fed a morsel of food to Aditi n Aditi too fed him. He then made her drink water n she too made him drink water. Thus, their fasts were broken by their each other. Others smiled lukn at them.
"Di, ur 1st karva chauth went very nice," said Anita wid a smile.
"Its not her karva chauth. Its our karva chauth," said Aditya wid a smile.
"Yes, its both of ur karva chauth not just Aditi's," said Radhika wid a smile.
D friends n relatives went to their homes. Guptas n Sharmas were hvng a grand dinner 2gthr after d friends n relatives went.
"Beta, u made me proud by fasting along wid Aditi," said Raj wid a smile.
"I learned 4m u only dad dat v sud treat our love as equals," said Aditya wid a smile.
"I and Radhika r very proud to get a son-in-law like u," said Raman wid a smile.
Raj n Raman also were among d men like Aditya who wud fast along wid their wives. D friends n relatives wud not like Raj n Raman for dat n Aditya also turning like them. But Raj, Raman n Aditya did not cared abt them n supported their loving wives.
After dinner, Aditya n Aditi changed into their nighties n lied on d bed.
"How u felt 2day due to our karva chauth?" asked Aditya.
"It was very tiring but it became easy due to ur support," replied Aditi wid a smile.
"I vl always fast wid u n support u on our karva chauth," said Aditya wid a smile.
"Dats so sweet of u, Aditya," said Aditi wid a smile.
They hugged each other lovingly n went to sleep.
