I think Pratibha Patil was named as a candidate only as a compromise... and just because now the congress and the left are playing this "first woman president" card the issue is being talked about...

Atleast this act is just a mere lip service to the cause of uplifting women in this country...

If they pass the women reservation bill...that would be the real thing!

@ Qwerty...I can understand why it will be humiliating for men to take orders from women...afterall...ghar ke andar to order aurat ka chalta hai...ab bahar bhi ...bahut nainsaafi hai! 😆

maya, nice post!

ignoring chauvinist baselss remarks that i read, i would still say that it would not matter / make a bigger difference to have a woman president. Things will be the same imo. citizens can ofcourse BRAG about her in spite of feeling no need to stop disgusting practices of dowry-demands and female foeticide 😉

Thanks everyone for the views on our first woman president.

Qwerty, Nice bait😆 and some nice counter replies from Ashu, Priya, QT and Dewey.👏

Like most here mentioned I too think that gender hardly matters when it comes to choosing President of India. Sonia Gandhi wanted a Gandhi/Nehru family loyalist and that's why she ruled out Pranab Mukherjee. Shivraj Patil was her choice but major opposition from other quarters so then she found a family loyalist who is also a woman politician. Now many would agree to a first like this. I think that this president will act as a spokesperson of Sonia Ghandhi.

Sonia once again proved that at present she is the numero uno of Indian politics.

DEwey this is a good point... for accepting a woman president but too utopian to make what u think to happen..😊

Just a calculative guess. If women had the animus, most of them would be really demanding situations.. If they are doctors they are mostly paediatricoans and ob/gyns. and not like Neuro-surgery of Cardio-thoracic surgeons. They arent commandoes, not many at the front. How many woman have won any medal of honor in war like situations... so on.. and so forth...

All said I dont want women to go to war.. they are too nice for that..😊

Pratibha patil - who is she!!!?? Anyway I think this is year for the minority. You have hillary and obama (both terrible) , making hay while the sun shines... no republicans worth their name... and so we have some chances for shady, aberrrated moments in history which will be soon forgotten....😊
