We have had so many debates on Presidency of India. We wondered if filmstars and business tycoons could make a difference to the position. Now we are most probably going to have a woman president. It is a first for India.

1. Will a woman make any difference to the position?

2. Is it an achievement for a developing country like India to have women at such higher positions? We had a woman prime minister, now a president and not to forget all major political decisions of India is taken solely by another woman😉.

I won't be a rubber stamp President: Pratibha

New Delhi: Pratibha Patil, whose loyalty to Nehru-Gandhi family was widely perceived to be a major factor in her nomination as UPA-Left presidential candidate, on Saturday asserted she would not be a "rubber stamp" President.
Race for Rashtrapati Bhavan
Pratibha Patil is UPA-Left nominee
AIADMK won't support Pratibha: Jaya
A small town lawyer who made it big
Patil's choice insult to Cong: BJP
  • Coverage: Race for President
  • "I have never been a rubber stamp Governor and there is no reason why I should be a rubber stamp President. I have my own independent thinking," she told NDTV when asked whether she would be a rubber stamp President. Patil, who is likely to take on Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who may contest against her as an independent candidate with NDA support, said she would resign as Rajasthan Governor before filing her nomination.

She sought an appointment for a meeting with Shekhawat but was surprised to see him at her door in the Jodhpur House in New Delhi with Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Terming her nomination as a "big step for women," she said UPA's decision reflected how much respect the fair sex got in the country and it would help in empowerment of women.

I think that would be great! It would potray fairness towards both sexes! But my only problem is lots of women with power only have one agenda...Empowerment for women! As a woman that is good but there are lots of other issues to take care of also. I am just scared after watching Hilary Clinton trying to run for President. But Hopefully an Indian President would be level-headed and know how to take India in the right direction. And a woman can provide a whole different perspective from men and India needs something different right now! Personally I think it would be awesome! 😃

😲😲😲 why? What's so humiliating about it?😕 Cause it is a woman or it is a local politician?😕 Anyways, my question is if she is well-educated or not?

^^^ Qwerts Why would it be humiliating to take orders from women? Women are just as smart and independent as men. So, why shouldn't they be able to lead a country. Human organs don't define intelligence or the ability to lead a country. So, I don't see why you should think a woman giving orders is not acceptable.

Men who put their life in harms way.. need to have a tough leader.a man, a woman leader can be extremely demotivating....woman cant take tough decisions i would say by and large...As soon as 50% of our army/defence is women we can think of this....😊
