Saif Ali Khan opted out of Karan Johar's next because his character has gay overtones; John has no problems, and has stepped into the role NOT A'GAY'N: Saif Ali Khan Saif Ali Khan's loss is John Abraham's gain. After Saif pleaded unavailability to star in Karan Johar's next untitled flick (to be directed by his assistant Tarun Mansukhani), John has been roped in to fill his shoes. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. Playing straight The buzz doing the round is that Saif opted out because he has no dates this year. Another rumour is that Saif felt his role was not substantial compared to Abhishek and Ash, but the fact is that Mansukhani's directorial debut is a romantic comedy with gay overtones, hence Saif has rejected it. Interestingly, Johar's 2003 production Kal Ho Na Ho had Saif and Shah Rukh Khan's characters playing to the gallery pretending to be in a gay relationship, but this time Saif wants to play safe. GAME FOR IT: John Abraham A source from Yash Raj Films (Aditya Chopra and Karan's friendship needs no introduction), confirms, "Saif opted out of Karan's film only because his role required him to play a man pretending to be gay. His role is similar to that of John Ritter in the American sitcom Three's Company, where his character has to pretend to be gay so that his prudish landlord permits him to live with female flatmates." The source adds that Saif initially agreed to the film, but changed his mind later. "Saif has never been worried about the length of his role. Didn't he steal the show from everybody in Omkara?" Mansukhani, who has been a Dharma loyalist for the last 10 years, obviously dismisses the gay overtones in his film. He simply says, "My film is about two boys and a girl. That's all I will say. Saif is not doing the film because he has no dates. We are in talks with John and Karan will make an announcement shortly. I can't say anything more." Previously set to start in October, the film will now roll in January 2008. So how booked is Saif? In August-September, Saif will shoot for the Yash Raj film Tashan, co-starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. He was then supposed to start working on Mansukhani's film in October but then said he wasn't available. After opting out of KJo's flick, Saif gave those dates to Kunal Kohli for another Yash Raj film with Rani Mukerji. Says Kunal, "I am shooting with Saif in October, but I don't think he gave me the dates promised to Tarun. When I approached him, he said he was free in October."

No Offense, But I seriously get annoyed by Karan Johar at times he's all for the top actors, and why is he playing family favors, If Abhi hadn't married Ash, He wouldve never starred her, and would have stick to his Kajol-Preity-Rani Trio, he does that alot in his films, by starring Jaya Amitabh Abhisek, and now Ash! Way to get to the top family of bollywood,and slowly to the top himself! His films are obviosly going to be hits, budget wise, if he starrs stars like Sharukh and these, even if the story line is lame like KANK, I feel sorry for the people who have great story line's but cant afford such top actors!!!

I know right There are great directors with great stories but they can't afford such top actors like srk, rani, kajol, preity on their movies so Karan is ruining all of their careers by doing a flop movie like KANK

agree with both👏Even if KJO tried to give saif a role, he should give a good role, saif isn't a B grade actor anymore. I heard kjo working with the scriptwriter who wrote kank for his next directorial😕I was wondering, has karan learnt anything from KANK?😆

Dont think that any1 wud like to play gay in that movie...anyway thnks for sharing
