CHAPTER 26. AAOGE JAB TUM O SAAJNA!

Maan smiled as he entered his sister's hospital room. Khushi grinned as soon as she saw him, "Veerji!" For a second, Maan was sent to the past when a teenage Khushi would come running around to meet him all the while shouting "Veerji!" He smiled softly at those old memories as he came over to hug her. The Raizadas had already gone home and only Arnav remained behind standing by her door waiting for Maan and Geet.

Following Maan inside was Geet. "Bhabhi!", Khushi let out a squeal and Geet grinned and ran forward to hug her. The hugged each other tightly and Maan rolled his eyes. The way they were hugging someone would say they have been separated for a month rather than a day. Geet helped Khushi get up. Her right leg and right hand were wrapped up in plaster of paris which made her right side heavier and her balance off to the side. Geet held her from the left and helped her walk out of the room while Maan walked behind them to grab Khushi if she lost her balance. As Khushi walked through the corridors with Geet, the Doctor stopped Maan and gave him instructions about the medicines Khushi needed to take.

Geet and Khushi reached outside the Hospital only to see Arnav standing in front of them leaning on his car. Khushi stopped walking right away as she stared at Arnav in shock. After their heart to heart discussion the other day, Arnav never came in front of Khushi and only now she was seeing his face. She bit her lip feeling awkward as all his words from the earlier day floated through her mind. Arnav also did not move. He just stared at Khushi trying to absorb her every expression and every moment in his brain, trying to assure himself that she was alright. Geet nudged Khushi bringing her out of her thoughts. Arnav opened the backdoor and Khushi tried to get in. But due to her off balance, raising one leg to climb in the car while she stood on other leg seemed difficult for her. She tried to climb in but whenever she raised her leg, she would loose her balance and only her quick action of putting the other foot down and Geet grabbing her arms seemed to help.

As Khushi continued to think of a way to climb in, she did not notice Arnav coming and standing by her. Before she knew it, she was swept off her feet and before she could shriek she was in Arnav's arms. She looked at Arnav with wide eyes while Arnav stoically looked ahead as he placed her into the car. As he pulled away from her, his eyes locked with hers and she almost gasped as she saw the intense love he had for her shining in his eyes. Arnav moved out of the way and Geet slid in from other side. Right around the time, Maan came around and both men climbed the front seats and with Arnav driving, the car moved on towards Khushi and Maan's home.

The whole ride Khushi remained quiet as she was lost in the feelings she saw in Arnav's eyes. She only came out of her thoughts when she noticed that they had reached their house. Khushi was seated right behind the driver seat and the moment the car stopped Arnav jumped off and opened the car for her. Khushi smiled hesitantly at his action and before she could step out, Arnav had swooped in and again lifted her up. Again Khushi was stupefied while Geet and Maan, who were out of the car, looked at each other and shook their heads. Geet and Maan walked ahead and Arnav followed with Khushi in his arms.

On the entrance of the house stood Rajji with a thaali in her arms. Khushi recognized it as aarti ki thaal. As soon as Geet entered the house she took the thaal from Rajji's hands and stopped Arnav from coming in with just one look. Arnav rolled his eyes; he was well versed with this ritual as before every fashion show of his and every time some problem came up in his life, Anjali would pull out the aarti ki thaal and do his aarti.

As Geet did tikka to Khushi, Rajji piped in, "Lagta hai aaj kal logon ko godh mein uthaane ka fashion aa gaya hai! Jisko dekho ladki ko godh mein utha raha hai!" Geet blushed, Maan's eyes widened and Khushi and Arnav looked at Rajji in confusion. Geet glared at Rajji, "Chup kar badmaash! Kuch bhi bolti hai! Mujhe aarti karne de!"

Once the aarti was done, Arnav took Khushi in. Knowing that Khushi would have trouble climbing the stairs, Geet and Maan had shifted her stuff to the ground floor room which had a window facing the front of the house. Geet directed Arnav to that room and Arnav placed Khushi on her bed. Maan had scurried out after getting a phone call by then and Geet had wandered off to the kitchen wanting to make something sweet as to celebrate the face that her nanad had arrived home safe and sound. After placing Khushi down, Arnav bent forward and arranged her pillows wanting to make her comfortable. This brought them very close face-to-face. Arnav continued to adjust pillows but Khushi's eyes remained on Arnav's face. She continued to look at him with wonder and awe, still in shock that someone would love her to such an extent.

Arnav was about to move away from Khushi when his eyes looked into hers and he stilled. There was something in her eyes, something undefined which made him want to stop and stare into her eyes.

Suddenly, Geet called for Rajji and the spell broke. Arnav scrambled off the bed and stumbled few steps back. Khushi looked around flustered by the feelings evoked by their close contact. There was something intangible in the air; something undefined that made Arnav and Khushi look all around the room but not at each other.

"Main chalta hoon!", Arnav whispered feeling uncomfortable while staying in the same room as Khushi. Khushi nodded slowly and looked at her hands. Arnav took few steps backwards keeping eyes trained on her, wanting to stare at her till he could, and then he turned around and walked away. Khushi felt sadness overwhelm at the thought of Arnav leaving and she stood up and limped to the window wanting to have one more glimpse of him. In the kitchen, Geet had put on the stereo while cooking and Khushi could hear strains of it in her room. Khushi waited for a while as Arnav was still inside the house. Khushi guessed that he was talking to Maan.

The music floated around as Maan and Arnav continued to talk. Maan shook his hands with Arnav and hugged him. Both men smiled at each other and Maan walked away. Arnav was about to get into his car when his eyes caught on to Khushi standing by the window and he felt his breath leave at all the unsaid emotions floating around in her eyes.

Arnav turned to get into his car when Khushi raised her hand as if to stop him. Arnav saw her reaction in his side mirror and turned around with confusion and hope swirling around in his eyes.

Arnav was jarred out of his thoughts as the song played from some other room. Must be Anjali Di playing it; Arnav thought and looked up again. It was late night and unable to sleep, he had lied down on the recliner by his poolside and stared at the moon. Khushi's eyes were trying to convey so many things to him and that had disturbed his peace. He could not sleep without seeing all those swirling emotions in Khushi's eyes. The music ended and the song played from the other room.

Arnav smiled softly as the song's soothing music lulled him to sleep. The song slowly ended but Arnav was already lost in his dreams where a happy Khushi welcomed him with open arms and smile on her face.

NOTE TO ALL MY READERS:

Many people have mentioned that they are not happy how long it is taking for Khushi to reciprocate Arnav's love. This is an explanation for those people! Many of you assume that when this story started Khushi was already in love with Arnav and was just being stubborn about it. But that is not the truth. Khushi was not in love with Arnav around that time. From the time they met, she has seen only his arrogant nature and that impression remained in her head and hence, she did not see his tender heart hidden behind the arrogant faade. As she never saw behind his attitude, she never fell for him.

Yes! There was attraction. Khushi was attracted to Arnav, after all, Arnav is a handsome guy. But there were no other feelings. When Geet told Arnav not to talk to Khushi for a day, Khushi missed him. But that was because she was used to his companionship and his new behavior made her miss her friend, Arnav. She was not in love with him. And when Annie came into picture, Khushi was feeling jealous because the person who used to give her so much attention was now ignoring her. That's all. There was nothing but friendship and possessiveness about the said friend. It is only now that she is falling for him when she had the accident and he told her that he only wanted to see her happy when she asked him what would happen if she did not fall for him. His words made her see behind the arrogant faade and now she is falling for him.

guess she needed to see his love after hearing what she did
