Part 12:
He sat there trying to read what her eyes communicated to him. Even if she didn't show it out or tell him, he was able to understand the depth of her love and concern for him. He literally forgot his pain as he drowned in her intense deep eyes which told him how much she loved him. He knew that it was just a matter of time when she would run into his arms whole heartedly and tell him how much she loved him and missed him all these days...
*********************************
His gaze made her a little uncomfortable mainly due to the fact that she exactly knew what he was thinking. She felt a little guilty for not being able to give him the love he wanted from this marriage. She felt guilty for keeping him waiting and his patience while dealing with her was adding onto her guilt. She felt as if burdened under his love and care for her.
"Bohat pyar karthi ho na mujhse?"
Her thoughts snapped when he spoke up fondly caressing her cheeks with his fingers.
She averted her eyes off him when his words hit her ears and his gentle touch shook her entire self.
She silently stuck the band-aid on his cut and got up. He knew the reason for her silence but he had asked that question in the moment's magic when he saw the true love that she nurtured and buried deep inside her heart for him. His pain had literally brought it out of her but she didn't want to admit it verbally. He never wished to make her feel guilty or uncomfortable but he could see that he had unknowingly brushed the wrong side of her.
She replied walking a little away from him, "Will saying an I love you' be enough Raman??"
He was a tad confused by her sudden query and what she mean by that. She turned back to him replying to her own question, "It will never be enough Raman...I need to completely accept our marriage, respect and start trusting our relationship, start perceiving you as my husband and seeing myself as your wife...My past marriage and relationship with Subbu wasn't a bitter one Raman...Atleast till I knew that he fooled me and betrayed my trust in him, it wasn't bitter...uss life ke memories abi bhi mujhme baaki hai Raman...I can never do justice to our relationship till I get over them...trust me, I really want to move on and give our marriage a honest and fair chance...But usskeliye, mujhe baaki sab kuch bhoolna hoga...I know what you desire from this marriage but Raman, I need time...warna..."
Raman now understood what she meant by the first question and smiled as she spoke. He voiced when she searched for the right words to complete what she intended, "I understand everything Ishita...you can take how much ever time you want...I will wait for you...main bas tumhe help karna chahta hoom aur naye yaadein banaane ki khoshish kar raha hoom...yaadein jo sirf meri aur tumaari, humaare hogi..."
She looked at him as if surprised and quite unaware of her, a slight blush crept into her cheeks.
He knew that his talk and his actions had a deep effect on her and he was happy for the reason for her changes.
Their cute moment was snapped by the whistle of the cooker. They broke away from the eye lock and the conversation to get back to the work.
Days moved by and their life sailed on smoothly. The distance was still there between them but it had surely narrowed down considerably. Raman was always in search of opportunities to bring her closer to him and as he said, creating fresh memories of their happy life. He was time and again proving to her that a happy marriage does not necessarily mean union of 2 bodies but it can be made happy by accepting one another as they are without any expectations. He lived through his beliefs seamlessly and redefined their love in a unique way which meant friendship, mutual respect, trust and understanding. Slowly, she was shedding away all her inhibitions which tried to tie her down and prevented her from accepting the second marriage whole heartedly and in every meaning. Raman too had started focussing on his business and also considerably reduced drinking. Ishita and her care for him were enough therapy for him to get back to the right track in his life. All his wavered ways were long forgotten and he focused on just his family and his work. Their week days became busier and their talks were just limited to when they had breakfast or dinner together. But the long days and the busy work did work wonders on them, especially Ishita because she started looking forward to the weekends when she and Raman spent most time together. Their little sweet nothings, doing the house hold chores together, their occasional visit to her amma's place or his place, their small outings...it was all slowly getting into her mind and she eagerly, anxiously waited for it.
Their small outing together also included shopping for their home, especially the grocery and vegetables which she had taken responsibility. Though she said that she would go alone, he always tagged along with her reasoning that he can't let her lift all those heavy shopping bags.
Even such errands gave them small moments when they shed their shells and for a moment atleast, they acknowledged their deepest love and desire for each other.
It was one such Sunday and the servants were on leave. He had to meet someone urgently and so he left soon after breakfast.
By the time he returned home, she had finished cooking lunch and was busy in the balcony putting their washed clothes to dry on the rope tied up there. There were clothes already on the lower ones and so she was trying to stretch up and put the newly washed clothes on the higher ones. She was getting annoyed by her futile attempts to grab the rope. He stood at the balcony door and chuckled
"main kuch help karoom?"
Ishita replied without even looking at him "No, its ok...I will do it..."
Her stubbornness to do every single chore of the home all by herself had always amused him. She was a perfectionist and she never asked him for help but he always pitched in. Even now, he wasn't the one to back out. She was again trying when she found herself being lifted up to the height of the rope. She was shocked by his action and voiced in a startle "arre arre...What are you doing Raman??? Put me down, pls chodo na Raman"
Raman grinned and replied "tumne mere help ko manaa kardiya. So I am helping you do it all by yourself...ab karlo jo karna hai!"
She couldn't control her giggles at his naughty action. Her giggles soon faded when she felt his breath on her waist and the gentle rubbing of his lips and chin. It wasn't feeling odd now yet a weird awkwardness, a shyness flooded all over her. She tried to protest a little but she also knew he wouldn't put her down and was adamant in that or was she hoping that the moment prolongs. She didn't know what her real thoughts were at those moments!
His urge to hurry up and his funny taunt about her weight snapped her out of the thoughts. So she quickly put the clothes and then gestured him to place her down..."Put me down now...koyi dekhlega Raman..."
He smiled and slid her down but held her locked in his arms. She twirled around to face him now when he huskily spoke up, "pyar ka funda hai...wife ko help karne ke bahaane dhoondna...aur usi bahaane pyar karna...kaisi lagi?"
She blushed but hid it well and mocked, "yeh pyar nahi flirting hai!"
He quickly closed the distance between their foreheads and replied without giving her a chance to react, "toh ab asli pyar karein?"
She blushed and lowered her eyes realizing what he meant by that. He knew that she wouldn't mind whatever he did to her now. She would surely respond back to him but he didn't want to rush things up and then make her recoil. He had brought this level of comfort between them putting in a lot of efforts and now he didn't want to spoil it all. So he held back and just added "you can expect more of these Ishita...so be prepared!"
She looked at him inquisitively as his ways of romancing her really amazed and amused her. She was curious to know what he meant by more and so managed to ask, "What more??"
He just patted her cheeks fondly and quickly planted a kiss on her soft apple cheeks whispering, "Later baby..."
Saying that he went in to make some important calls leaving her behind in a dreamy trance.
Saathiyaa, saathiyaa
Pagle se dil ne yeh kya kiya
Chun liya, chun liya
Tujhko deewane ne chun liya
Dil toh uda uda re aasman mein badalon ke sang
Yeh toh machal machal ke gaa raha hai sunn nayi si dhun
Badmash dil toh thag hai bada
Badmash dil yeh tujhse juda
Badmash dil meri sune na zid pe ada
Badmash dil toh thag hai bada
Badmash dil yeh tujhse juda
Badmash dil meri sune na zid pe ada
Raman had planned a special candle light dinner that night. So towards the evening, she was standing in front of the mirror trying to disentangle the knots in her long hair, though her fingers were doing it, her heart was still lingering in those romantic encounters in the morning. Her thoughts and dreamy trance surprised herself. She didn't know how Raman managed to have this effect on her. She felt as if he had literally swept her off her feet. Yes he had done it in the morning but even now her heart was pacing up every time, she remembered the feel of his lips on her. Her body reacted strangely to her myriad thoughts as she also waited in anticipation as to what lay ahead for the night.
Just then, she saw his reflection next to her on the mirror. She hadn't noticed him coming in till then.
He came back to check if she was ready and was amused to see her in that lost dreamy form. Her freshly bathed look, her long let loose hair and her feminine aroma wasn't something he could ignore any day, which he had of course done with so much self-restraint all these days. But today, it felt different and as if she was ready for whatever he wished for. Perhaps it was time he made the first move towards the next phase in their relationship.
He didn't think more but just swiftly turned her around and pulled her to himself. She snapped out from her dreamland and landed on him with a startle.
He decided to tease her a little before proceeding further, "Ishita, ghar mein koyi meeta hai kya?"
She was a bit confused hearing his question as she knew that he never was a fan of sweets and moreover, they were going out for dinner. So why was he asking for a sweet now. He added, "patha nahi kyun lekin aaj meeta khaane ka mann kar raha hai"
She replied, still confused at his sudden demand for a sweet, "Nahi hai...par agar aapko chahiye toh I will make something quickly! Kesari chalega??"
Raman grinned and replied "Nahi chalega...waise bhi who wants you to cook now?"
She looked at him puzzled while he went on, "jo mujhe chahiye woh already tumaare paas hai Ishita!"
Ishita looked at him enquiringly but she was quick to understand what he meant by that when she caught his eyes roaming all along her face and stopping at her lips. She blushed and her cheeks turned red while he said "I need a sweet kiss from you...I am sure no other sweet beats that..."
She didn't reply or nod but she just bent her head down shyly. He chinned her up and leaned over. As he neared her lips, she muttered "aapka phone shaayad bhaj raha hai"
Raman replied huskily, "Its not my phone, its my heart that's ringing for you Ishita"
She couldn't stop a smile hearing his clichd romantic dialog but she went on. "door pe koyi hoga shaayad?"
Raman not willing to give up so easily, "wahi rehne dho..."
Ishita went on with her lame excuses, "dinner pe jaana hai na"
"abi time hai"
He had stopped midway to hear her excuses one by one. When she didn't say anything for the next few seconds, he grinned and enquired with a mischievous glint in his eyes
"Aur koyi bahaana hai toh woh bhi bolo"
Ishita smiled at his cheeky comment.
She managed to reply amidst her blushes "No"
Raman was quick to reply back, "Then what are we waiting for?"
Saying that he bridged the gap between their lips and claimed his right over them in the most passionate way. It wasn't their first kiss but it had been too long before and he had been really desperate to kiss her. All his self-enforced leashes broke open that very moment. He kissed her gently first but then deepened it slowly relishing them with the ardour like now or never. She was initially startled by the intensity she felt deep inside her. Once that startle faded, she began to respond back. She tried her best to match his fervour as the fire of passion spread over to her from him.
He bent her a little back not leaving her lips even once. She arched back to give him more access to her. His deep passionate kiss showed his love, his desires and his yearning for her. It was literally a dream come true moment for him. He moved down to snuggle into her nape to kiss her most sensitive point. She gasped at the deepest sensations that he evoked in her but then before she lost her complete sanity, he moved his lips away to line up kisses till her ear lobe. Nibbling her soft skin there, he whispered into her ears, "Let's go"
Saying that, he parted and smiled naughtily. She stood numbed at his passionate onslaught and then his sudden breaking away. She was yet to come out of the aftermath. He stood at the door and spoke up, "Ready hoke aa jaana...I am waiting down..."
His heart and mind was both battling against each other but his logical mind won over when he finally parted from her. He couldn't afford to lose control like this. Perhaps tonight, he would...his thoughts ceased there and he told to himself, "Not like this...I have to make it perfect for her"
While she stood with a fluttering heart which wasn't stopping the loud thud which he had triggered off in her. She had never felt this before. For the very first time, she felt a craving for her husband. She wanted him to touch her, to caress and kiss her, to make love to her. Her skin burned in the passion that he aroused and her inners ceased to exist for a few moments.
********************
The drive to the dinner was silent as both of them were beaming in the aftermath of the passionate kiss, the taste of which still lingered on their lips even now. They didn't want to speak up and lose that feeling nor taste. The silence was comforting and calming down their pouncing hearts which seemed to be communicating with each other or perhaps wished that the night stayed on the same way.
Raman took her to one of his most favourite places which was away from the maddening crowd.
As they ordered and waited, they were silent for a while and this time she chose to break it
"achaanak humaare beech baatein kam hogayi...khaamoshiyan zyaadha bolne lagi hai!" she grinned saying that.
He looked at her amused and spoke up with a smile "shaayad hum ek dhoosre ke baaton ko bina boley hi samajhne lage?"
She replied, "hmmm shaayad..." but her mind still pondered about why he suddenly withdrew from her and was posing silence. She wanted to be sure if he was alright. She was in that state of mind when she needed reassurances at every step of their life. So she placed her hand on his surprising him and enquired, "All fine na?"
Raman nodded and smiled, "haan...jab tum mere saath ho sab kuch fine hi hoga Ishita..."
She smiled at his words and replied, "You can share every problem with me Raman"
She pressed his hand reassuring him of her support in every step of his. He was a little moved by her gesture. As she took her hand back, he quickly grabbed her slender fingers and held them captive in his for a little longer,"kuch dher aise rehne dho"
She just nodded and didn't pull it back. He entwined his fingers with hers and they sat like that till the food arrived. They spoke a lot about their work. He told her about the new deal he cracked and Ishita too was out with the gossips at her clinic.
As they finished the dinner, he paid the bill and as the card came back, she got up and walked a few steps towards the entrance. While he took back the card, he noticed a tissue paper inside the bill folder and there was something written on it. He took the paper and enquired about it to the waiter first. The waiter pointed to an empty table and said that a person who sat there had sent it for Raman.
He looked at the note once again "Your wife is very beautiful...sambaalkar rakhna...kisi ka nazar na lag jaaye"
Was it a threat? Or just a flirty dialog of some perverted guy? He couldn't understand it as it came to him all of a sudden at the most unexpected moment.
Since he didn't walk up to her, she looked back and asked him "kya hua?"
Raman sprinted to her "kuch nahi...chalo..." He protectively put an arm around her shoulders lightly as if securing her and led her to the car. She looked at his hand as he did that and she liked that protective hold from her husband.
Acchi lagey dil ko mere har teri baat re
Saaya tera bann ke chalun itna hai khwaab re
Kaandhe pe sar rakh ke tere katt jaaye raat re
Beetenge din thaame tere haathon mein haath re
Yeh kya hua mujhe mera yeh dil fisal fisal gaya
Yeh kya hua mujhe mera jahaan badal badal gaya
Badmash dil toh thag hai bada
Badmash dil yeh tujhse juda
Badmash dil meri sune na zid pe ada
Badmash dil toh thag hai bada

That night...
Ishita came to the room but he was busy in a video conference in his office room. He was there ever since they came back. She wondered what had come up so urgently. She couldn't sleep. She tossed in the bed for a while, she walked in the balcony for some time and looked at the stars and moon in the sky.
It was obvious that she was waiting for him. She wanted him by her side while she slept.
Neendhein nahin chaina nahin badloon mein karwatein
Taare ginu ya main ginu chaadar ke sarwatein
Yaadon mein tu khwaabon mein tu teri hi chaahatein
Jaaon jidar dhoonda karoon teri hi aahatein
Yeh jo hai dil mera yeh dil suna na keh raha yehi
Woh bhi kya zindagi hai zindagi ki jis mein tu nahin
She came back to the bed and turned to face the wall closing her eyes to try to get some sleep but all her efforts went in vain as sleep evaded her. A little later, much to her relief, she heard him coming into their room.
Badmash dil toh thag hai bada
Badmash dil yeh tujhse juda
Badmash dil meri sune na zid pe ada
Half an hour later but it looked like a long long time, she turned to his side,"Raman...aap so gaye?"
She heard him reply the very next second "nahi...bolo..."
He hadn't slept too or rather her call woke him up from the shallow slumber. Ishita gathered a little courage and replied "kya main aapke haath pakadh ke so sakthi hoom?"
Raman turned his face to her smiling "Do you have to ask me permission?" and extended his hand to her. She smiled back and gave her hand into his and he firmly held it. Perhaps both needed that reassuring hold to sleep that night. For him, it was more of overly concern for her due to the anonymous person's threat and for her, it was her first step towards him, where she took the initiative all by herself.
