So today morning it was a usual thing to do – reading the newspaper. But something that caught my attention (after having read all the important news and events, of course!) was the page10 of t2. We got an interview of RK in T-mode i.e. Thakral mode. Here goes the article:
Positive & negative
Spiked hair, earrings and colourful clothes – small-screen sensation Ram Kapoor's character in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (STAR Plus) is a complete departure from the staid and sober persona of Jai Walia in Kasamh Se. The actor spoke to t2 on his change of image, his look in the serial and about working with wife Gautami.
Your character Jasjeet Thukral in Kyunki… is quite unlike anything that one has seen on Indian television…
Absolutely. It is an eccentric and unpredictable character, a recluse basically. There is an element of secrecy around the character of Thukral. Acouple of episodes have been aired and the reactions from the audience have been extremely positive.
After the serious, older role in Kasamh Se, is playing the no-holds-barred character in Kyunki… a conscious effort to change your image?
Not really. It's always good to play different types of roles and that's what I'm trying to do. If I do a positive role today, I will make sure that I try and do a negative act the next time. Both the characters that I play are of the same age, although they are vastly different in temperament.
What was your reaction when you were offered the role?
Balaji Telefilms had been talking to me for a while regarding the role. In fact, the role was written keeping me in mind and so I have been involved with this character right from the conceptualisation stage.
Your look in the serial is being talked about…
We wanted a very different look for the character, something that would suit his over the top, flamboyant demeanour. I have had a lot of sittings with Ektaa (Kapoor) and Manish Malhotra, who is responsible for my look in the serial. My character wears only green in the serial.
Is the character a cameo or do you have a full-fledged role in the serial?
It is a full-fledged role, at least for the time being. A lot of thinking and effort have gone into the character of Jasjeet Thukral. We will see the kind of reactions that the character elicits and then decide the course that it should take in a couple of months. As of now, the character is here to stay.
Your relationship with Balaji Telefilms is a long-standing one. Are you not allowed to take up serials from other production houses?
Absolutely not. I am not under any contract and am free to do as I like. However, it is true that I share a certain comfort level with Balaji Telefilms and it makes more sense for me to act in their serials because they take care of my dates. It takes my life so much simpler.
After a long time, you will be working with your wife Gautami who plays Tulsi in the serial…
We haven't shot any scenes together yet, but I am really looking forward to working with Gautami. We first worked together in Ghar Ek Mandir (produced by Balaji Telefilms), but we were not married then (chuckles). She is a great actress and working together will give us some time with each other which is otherwise not possible due to our hectic schedules.

That's it! I am now wondering on the Jeet factor in Jasjeet too!
