CHAPTER 24. THE EVENING FINALLY ENDS!
Maan and Geet were sitting on the hospital chair outside Khushi's room when Arnav came out of the room looking confused and scared. Ise kya hua? Maan wondered. Arnav's phone was ringing but instead of picking it up, he ignored the call and leaned back on the nearby wall lost in his thoughts. Now Maan was sure that something was wrong. Before he could question Arnav, the Doctor came over to talk to them. Arnav straightened up while Maan and Geet stood up from their seats. All three were standing with tense shoulders and alert eyes. The Doctor smiled at them and Geet relaxed. Yeh Doctor smile kar rahe hain toh achchi khabar hi hogi! Haina Babaji? But Maan and Arnav remained tensed.
The Doctor spoke up, "Your sister is alright, Mr. Khurana. We just need to keep her overnight as she told us she had hit her head during the accident. No bleeding but concussion ke chances hai. So she will stay overnight for observation. Aap kal unhein ghar le jaa sakte hain!"
Maan's rigid stance relaxed while Arnav let out a deep breath and smiled softly. She can go home tomorrow! Maan was happy. Of course, there was another reason I am happy! Maan smirked. Kal Geet jo mere ghar aa rahi hai! He looked at Geet knowingly and Geet noticing his gaze looked down with a shy smile.
The Doctor continued speaking, "Aap mein se ek insaan yahaan raat ko ruk sakta hai, but only one!" As the Doctor walked away, Maan and Arnav looked at each other. Arnav raised an eyebrow as if saying I am staying here. Maan shook his head conveying his refusal. Arnav took a deep breath and looked at Maan sternly communicating his refusal to go away. Maan folded his arms against his chest again stating his refusal. Geet rolled her eyes at their antics and huffed. Yeh dono ka kuch nahi ho sakta!
Finally Arnav spoke up, "Tum jaao Maan! I will stay with Khushi!"
Maan shook his head, "Tum jaao ghar! Waise bhi tumhaari behen tumhaari bahut fikar karti hai! Main yahaan Khushi ke saath reh lunga!"
Arnav stiffened, "Maan please! Let me stay!"
Before Maan could reply, Geet placed a hand on Maan's arm. She recognized the desperation in Arnav's voice and understood his need behind staying here. If Maan was in Khushi's place, Geet would have stayed behind and sent Khushi home too. And she would have stared at Maan the whole time assuring herself that Maan was alive. And Arnav wanted to do the same now. Who was she to stop a bleeding heart from getting its solace by watching his love breathe after a harrowing accident?
"Rehne dijiye na Arnavji ko yahaan!", Geet pleaded softly.
Maan looked at her, "Par Geet meri Gudiya..."
"Maan! Agar aap yahaan ruk gaye toh mere aur Rajji ke liye room kaun ready karega? After all, kal Khushi ghar aa rahi hai aur uske pehle mujhe wahaan shift hona hoga!", Geet spoke in an innocent voice knowing very well that her logic will cut through his fear. But she understood Maan's perspective too. Maan also almost lost his sister today and he wanted to remain close to her to assure himself that she is fine. But Arnav needed the assurance more today and Geet understood that.
Maan looked at Geet with narrowed eyes but nodded after a moment. Geet smiled at Maan and looked at Arnav only to see him mouth the words Thank you' to her. She nodded at him and looked back at Maan. Maan walked over to Arnav to talk to him. Geet was sure Maan was giving Arnav instructions on how Arnav should call Maan the moment something changed. She rolled her eyes. Overprotective brother! Pata nahi agar hum dono ko shaadi ke baad ladki hui toh yeh kaise behave karenge? Haan! Beti ko school bhi bodyguard ke saath bhejenge. Geet chuckled. Nahi nahi! Beti ko seedha homeschool kar denge! Geet walked off into Khushi's room to inform her about Doctor's news and their decision all the while wondering what all things Maan would do as an overprotective father!
"Didi Sachchi?", Rajji squealed as she looked with a grin on her face at her elder sister.
The said elder sister rolled her eyes as she continued to pack her bags, "Haan baba! Sachchi! Ab chillaana band karegi aur apna saamaan baandhegi ya tere saamaan bhi main hi baandhun?"
Geet and Rajji were at Pinky's house packing their bags so that they can move in early morning. Actually Geet was packing while Rajji was just goofing around and Pinky pouted in a corner. Maan had just dropped Geet at her house with the promise of picking both Handa sisters early in the morning, so that Geet can settle into her room before they go to hospital to bring Khushi home.
Rajji huffed, "Uff Geet Didi! Main baandhti hoon na! Pehle mujhe khush hone do ki main kuch dino ke liye Jiju aur Khushi Di ke saath rahungi! Kitna mazaa aayega, nahi?"
Pinky pouted as she popped a potato chip in her mouth, "Tum dono toh yahaan se chali jaaogi phir mera kya hoga? Main toh bore ho jaaungi! Aur yeh ghar toh tum dono ke baghair soona soona lagega!"
Geet sighed softly as she realised that Pinky will be alone with only her dad for company while Rajji shook her head, "Offo Pinky Didi! Aap yeh kyun bhool rahi ho ki aap Khushi Di ki bhi friend ho! Toh aajaana Office khatam hote hi Maan Jiju ke saath unke ghar aur mil lena apni Jalebi se! Phir aap main aur Khushi Di milke Didi Jiju ki sagaai plan karenge! Aur hum sleepover bhi kar sakte hain! Humaare college ki ladkiyaan apne saheliyon ke saath har Saturday sleepover karte hain! Hum bhi karenge!"
While Geet chuckled at her sister's enthusiasm as she packed her clothes, Pinky's eyes widened in shock, "MK Sir ke saath ek gaadi mein? Nahi! Mujhe unse bahut darr lagta hai! Main nahi aa paaungi!"
Rajji giggled at Pinky's antics while Geet moved towards Pinky, "Pinky! Tum Maan se itna kyun darti ho?"
Pinky popped another chip in her mouth while narrowing her eyes at Geet, "Tujhe kuch nahi pata! Tu toh unhein pyaar ke nazar se dekhti hai! Hum toh unhein Boss ke nazar se dekhte hain! Aur jab ghusse se unki aankhen badi hoti haina toh..."
Before Pinky could finish her words, the bell rang and Mr. Manchanda hollered from the hall, "Geet beta! Maan bete aaye hain tumse milne!"
Geet squealed in excitement, "Maan aaye hain!" She giggled as she ran off to meet Maan at the door.
Pinky gulped and squeaked, "MK Sir! Yahaan! Hey Geet ke Babaji! Mujhe chupne ki jagah bataao!"
Rajji smiled softly, "Jeej aaye hain!" and then her eyes widened, "Hey Babaji! Meri packing honi baaki hai! Aur kal subah jaana hai! Rajji beta, Khushi aur Jeej ke ghar mein rehne ka sapna dekhna band kar aur packing shuru kar! Warna Geet Didi ne na teri jaan leni hai!"
Rajji started packing and Pinky with a small sigh got up from her seat and started helping her.
"Maan! Aap yahaan?", Geet asked as she entered the hall. Maan got up from the sofa he was sitting on and greeted her with smile. Mr. Manchanda, who was also sitting too, got up, "Aap dono baat keejiye! Main aaraam karne jaa raha hoon!" As Mr. Manchanda walked off to his room, Geet walked a few steps towards Maan and both of them looked each other with love in their eyes.
The room was silent for the next few minutes. Finally Geet broke the silence, "Aap ko kuch chaahiye tha Maan?"
Maan gave her a smile and put his hand into his pocket. He pulled out something and her eyes widened and she grabbed the thing, "Mera mobile phone!"
Maan chuckled, "Tum gaadi mein hi bhool gayi thi!"
Geet pouted, "Ae le! Main ise ghar bhar dhoond rahi thi aur yeh aapke paas tha!" She chuckled.
Maan smiled sadly, "Achcha hua na? Uss bahaane mujhe aur waqt tumhaare saath mila!"
Geet smiled at him, "Haan!"
"Achcha main chalta hoon!", Maan turned to walk away and Geet frowned. Yeh itne udaas kyun lag rahe hain?
As Maan walked away, Geet caught his wrist from behind.
Maan turned to look at her only to see Geet look at him curiously, "Aise udaas kyun hai aap?"
Maan smiled sadly again and shook his head. Geet huffed and jerked Maan towards her. Maan who was not expecting such action, stumbled towards Geet and almost fell on her but regained his balance. He frowned at Geet who smiled impishly. She raised her hand holding Maan's wrist and looked at it and then at him, "Yeh haath tab tak aapke haath ko nahi chodega jab tak aap mujhe yeh nahi bataate ki aap itne udaas kyun hai!"
Maan huffed, "Geet! Aisi koi baat nahi hai!"
Geet dropped his hand and got close to Maan. She leaned on her toes and looped her hands around Maan's neck, "Mr. Maan Khurana! Kya aap Future Mrs. Maan Khurana se jhoot bol rahe ho?"
Maan smiled as he grasped her hands and pulled them away from his neck, "Aisi koi baat nahi hai Geet!"
Geet's jaw dropped open, "Hey Babaji! Ek aur jhoot! Aapne mujhse jhoot bola? Aapki Geet se? Jaayiye! Main aapse baat nahi karti!" She stormed to the sofa and sat down with her arms folded against her chest and pout on her lips. Maan took a deep breath, "Geet!"
Geet turned her head away from Maan.
Maan sat beside her and grasped her hand but Geet pulled her hand away.
They sat there for few minutes in silence. And then Maan spoke up softly. He spoke up so softly that if there wasn't silence in the room, Geet would not have a single word of what he said.
"Mujhe aaj ghar jaane ka mann nahi kar raha hai!", Maan said.
Geet frowned while looking at Maan but did not say anything hoping that Maan would open up more.
And Maan continued, "Aaj mera ghar khaali hoga! Khushi nahi hogi mujhe late aane ke liye daantne. Woh nahi hogi mujhe khaana parosne! Woh nahi hogi mujhe goodnight bolne! Ek baar mere kamre tak pahunch gaya phir mujhe khaalipan itna nahi khalega! Par dining table ka soonapan mujhe khaana khaate waqt bahut sataayega!"
"Maan?", Geet whispered softly.
Maan turned to look at her.
Geet smiled, "Aap jaante ho na ki ek din aapki behen shaadi karke chali jaayegi! Aaj aap aise behave kar rahe ho, toh tab kya karoge?"
Maan smirked, "Tab tak toh tum meri biwi ban hi gayi hogi!" Geet blushed and Maan continued, "Haan Khushi ko tum replace toh nahi karogi par uske itna toh shorgul tum macha hi logi!"
Geet's jaw dropped open in shock, "Kya? Main shorgul machaati hoon? Hey Babaji! Inka main kya karun?"
She pulled a throw pillow from the sofa and starting beating Maan with it. Maan tried to defend himself for first few hits but then he grabbed Geet's hand and pulled her towards him. She felt right on him and due to her force he fell on to the sofa. The moment he noticed that they were on the sofa with her on top of him he looped his hands around her waist and smirked at her.
Geet was disoriented for few seconds but then her eyes widened as she sensed his arms around her, "Maan mujhe chodiye!"
Maan acted as if he was thinking for few moments and then shook his head, "Nope! Bhool jaao!"
"Maan! Koi dekhlega!", Geet pleaded.
Maan looked at her with smirk, "Toh dekhne do!"
Geet glared at him, "Maan!"
Maan glared back, "Geet!"
Geet rolled her eyes and then her eyes went up and she squeaked, "Manchanda Uncle!"
Maan's eyes widened and he pulled his hand away. Geet took this chance to scramble off him and Maan sat up in a jerk, "Mr. Manchanda. Main woh..." He trailed off as he noticed no one standing there. Geet started laughing loudly. Maan looked at Geet and narrowed his eyes, "Tum mera mazaak udaa rahi thi?"
Geet adopted a look of innocence and shook her head and then nodded vigorously and burst out laughing.
Maan stood up with anger, "That's it! Main yahaan aur nahi rukunga! Apna mazaak udvaane ka mujhe koi shauk nahi hai! Main jaa raha hoon!"
As Maan started to walk away, Geet squeaked and stood up. She ran towards Maan and stood in front of him, "Maan! Aap toh naaraaz hogaye!"
Maan folded his arms against his chest and looked away. Geet huffed, "Offo! Ghussa thook dijiye aur mere saath chaliye!"
Maan frowned, "Kahaan?"
Geet rolled her eyes, "Kitna sawaal poochte hain aap! Bas chaliye!"
She grabbed his hand and dragged him to the kitchen where she made him sit in the chair in front of the dining table. Maan looked on in confusion as Geet pulled out some sabzi and roti from the fridge and put the sabzi on the stove to heat up. Maan frowned as she started heating the rotis on a tava on the other stove, "Yeh tum kya kar rahi ho?"
Geet huffed and without looking away from her hot rotis she spoke, "Aapne hi toh kahaa tha na ki aaj aapka ghar bada soona lag raha hai! Ab aapke soone ghar ka toh main kuch kar nahi sakti lekin atleast aapko khaana akele baithke na khaana pade iska intezaam zaroor kar sakti hoon!"
Maan looked in wonder as Geet served roti and sabzi in front of him. How did he get so lucky? He wondered. A career as top businessman, a sweet and sensible sister, a loving and caring soulmate, what else did he want in life? Babaji ne toh sab kuch diya hai mujhe! He was brought out of his thoughts when Geet nudged him and looked pointedly at the plate in front of him. Maan smiled at her and started to eat. Geet smiled happily as Maan ate. She could get used to this! Serving Maan food and sitting beside him, chatting with him as they discussed their day. Yes! She could imagine her future right beside him.
About the title of this chapter, the evening started with press conference, then there was Tanhaayi song, then came the accident and its aftermath and finally the evening ended with this chapter!
Thanks, take care and have fun,
