Discuss: Role of Indian Army

Right now, I was watching The Great Indian Tamasha on NDTV, and they showed this segment on Army recruitments..

An officer asks two cadets why they've joined the Army....the cadets say that they've joined to fight India's enemies and protect its borders..But the officer tells them that they don't have to do all this, but they have to rescue people in floods, and rescue kids trapped in borewells..

Is this what our Army has come to???????

Everyday, you hear reports that outsiders are infiltrating the borders, and then either they create trouble through violence, or create a drain on our resources by settling here..

What is the Army doing?????

I agree that it is because of these people that we citizens are still safe, but still, I feel that the Army's role is being be-littled by the media...NDTV wanted to show the govt.'s inadequacies, yet they have raised this question..Is the Army portrayed correctly????????

Take KMA...here we have cadets partying, officers turning out to be spies and trying to murder their colleagues in front of all and sundry.. Everyone is caught up in his/her personal concerns...

Why is it that the only people entering Army are from middle or lower classes, or Defence background(with a few exceptions of course..)?????? Is being a soldier a thing of shame????? Why do people go for more glamorous professions rather than serving their country????

I don't want to offend anyone, because I do have many family members and friends from Defence and I really respect this profession, but I feel that this is an important issue, specially for us youths, the future of India.

U have started a very good topic.Actually ppl in india have become less patriotic and more selfish.Today more and more ppl r into the IT jobs and glam world b'coz of more money and fame.Today no one wants to face hardship like army ppl do.
Ppl do not think abt their country.For them,country hamesha 15th aug aur 26th jan ko yaad aata hai.They think their duty is over after saluting the flag and singing the national anthem.Actually sabko phir se yaad dilana padega i desh pehle aata hai aur baki sab baad mein.
In this the media should contribute but even the media has become more and more commercial.They always search for garam chatpata news and not real news. They are not fulfilling their duties nor do we the citizens of India.
Coming back to the serial,they are definitely contributing in some way.Hum log thode bahut desh bhakt to ho hi gaye hain isse dekhke.And abt the other things like parties and luv stories,agar yeh sab nahi hoga to dekhega kaun?

You're right Subha, but don't you think that lrl mein bhi kuch ajeeb hi chakkar dikhaate hain???? i mean ki Nair ko itne saal VP banaaya rakha, lekin uska background check bhi nahin kiya..dhyaan se karte to kuch evidence mil hi jaati...
Ritu itne saal Army mein rahi...ab jaake pata chala that no one even remembers her, meaning she had a fictional personality...This only means that the Army people are sloppy about security..

Aise to bahut saare doubts aur sawaal hain which r not yet answered.Ab ritu ko hi lelo,uska navin ke saath affair kyun tha,usne navin ko kaise phasaya etc.,etc.

Nair is a very intelligent fellow.Raj ko abhi tak usse lekar doubt nahi aaya.Jab aayega to nair ko bhi dekh lega.

Kya sirf National hloidays ke naam yaad rakhna patriotism hota hai?????? Why aren't the kids going for careers in defence, even as India's defence needs continue to rise???? Is personal security and contentment more important than national security????????

I agree that this is a show and they are more into entertaining us and stuff, but there are soooooooo many people who follow shows blindly, and think that the serials are gospels of truth..

I know that just discussing about patriotism and responsibilty won't do any good, but it is the only way to make people realise..

The people who say that we won't go for Defence, but will work for our country as doctors, engineers, businesses, etc...what do they do??????? Agreed that some of them do work in society's favour...they are ethical, and responsible,but what about the others??????

Those businessmen who 'contribute to the economy', they only think about avoiding taxes, which is cheating the country...their kids go around wearing diamond jewellery, drinking, taking drugs, driving below age, and kill people..

Engineers....they take bribes, or even sacrifice public safety so that they can save and use the allotted money for their personal purposes...Maybe you all have heard about the roof collapse in Chandigarh a week or so ago..
The engineer had used the cheapest materials possible, and the admin had never cared for the buildings...The 35 year old building thus collapsed...
The Army was brought in, but being given faulty machines and no space to work, they were blamed for the delay in rescue work..


Again I am saying this, I do not want to offend anyone, but I am stating facts.
