David Dhawan's son, Rohit, is set to direct a film. But no, unlike papa, he's not interested in making a comedy

David Dhawan is looking at an exciting year ahead. "Next year I'm launching my older son Rohit, who's 23, as an independent director," says David.

Rohit who studied cinema at NYU, joined his dad a couple of years ago. "The entire young look in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya was decided by my son. And now in my latest film, Partner, he has worked with me as an associate director, on the sets. To have your son work with you is such a blessing. I feel a load off my back," he says.

So, now we have another filmi empire ready to strike, a la the Barjatyas and Chopras? Rohit Dhawan has already introduced his father to a new style of filmmaking. And also directed a very special FX portion in Partner on behalf of his dad.

"And now Rohit will become an independent director with a film that will surprise you," says the proud papa. "He won't be doing anything that I've done. For instance, Rohit won't make a comedy. He'll make a romantic film. He's scripting it right now."

Dhawan Jr's film is expected to go on the floors mid-2008.
