Back in Mumbai

Hi Friends!!!

My lovelies are back. My friend Nainital's magic has worked on them. You don't believe me? ... Ok then let's check.

Mrityunjay goes to and comes back from office on time. Reduction in smoking. Smiles often.

Tara is trying to fulfill her dying mother's wish. Shows sign of life and liveliness, which makes her mother happy.

See I told you, the magic has done its work.

These small changes in Mrityunjay did not go unnoticed by Dadaji. He was happy to see Mrityunjay trying to change.
He asked Joseph the reason for this change.
Joseph informed him about the events in Nainital and about Tara.
Dadaji was quite impressed by Tara who changed his grandson so much.

Mrityunjay sketches often, at least two in a week. He makes sure that each week he sketches.

In his each sketch, there is a woman, sometimes smiling, sometimes crying, sometimes dancing, in short he portrays that woman who he had imagined first time in Nainital in every shade of a woman.
That woman's face very much resembles Tara.

Slowly colors are coming back to Mrityunjay's life. He had started playing guitar once again which he had left one year ago.
Once again he was playing his favorite tune.

~Na hai yeh pana na khona hi hai
Tera na hona jaane kyun hona hi hai
Tum se hi din hota hai surmayi shaam aati hai
Tumse hi...Tumse hi...~

Whenever Tara sees Mrityunjay's visiting card, she thinks of him. Whether he would be still the way he was, or would have changed. Many a time she thought to call him, but each time stopped thinking that he might misunderstand her and he would assume she called him for help. Tara didn't want to take anyone's help for her mother's treatment.

One day while keeping the guitar away, he saw the red scarf gifted by Tara.
"I hope her mother would be fine."

"One month had passed to Nainital visit, and we have not met since then. I wish she meets me. I want to help her."

Thinking this, Mrityunjay kept that scarf back.

On the other side, Tara was trying to fulfill her mother's wishes.

"Tara, you are trying to fulfill all my wishes. But I have only one wish that I want to be fulfilled," said her mother, caressing Tara's hand.

"Say mom, I am ready to do anything for you," said Tara, holding her mother's hand firmly, waiting to hear her mother's wish.

"Then please get married Tara. I want to see you as a bride. That's my last wish." Saying this, Tara's mother eyes were stuck on Tara's face for her answer.

"Now you should rest mom." Saying this, Tara made her sleep. She was ready to fulfill each wish, but this wish of her mother's was the only one that was difficult to be fulfilled.
"I wish I could fulfill this wish of yours mom." Thinking this Tara left for home watching her sleeping.

She came out of the hospital and was waiting for an auto rickshaw, when a car stopped in front of her.

A man came out of the car and said, "Tara. It was Mrityunjay.

"Mrityunjay! What a pleasant surprise!" said Tara, after taking a second to recognize him.

"What you are doing here, outside the hospital?" questioned Mrityunjay, although he knew the reason for her being here, but to start their talk this type of question was required.

"I am going home. My mom's treatment is going on in this hospital," replied Tara, trying to continue their talk.

"If you don't mind, may I drop you home?" asked Mrityunjay hesitatingly, little bit worried what she would think about him.

"You might get late for the place where you were going. I will go on my own." Tara was feeling little bit self-conscious.

"I am going home. It would be my pleasure to drop you home." Mrityunjay tried to make the atmosphere easy.

"Ok..." Saying this, Tara sat in the car.

"Thanks to traffic of Mumbai, because of it today Joseph changed route. Otherwise how could I have met Tara once again?" Thinking this Mrityunjay smiled. He was happy to meet her once again after a gap of one month.

There was a complete silence in the car. Mrityunjay thought to break the ice.
Clearing his throat he asked, "How is your mom? Is there any improvement in her health?" He knew that at this stage of cancer thinking of improvement is ridiculous.

"No Mrityunjay. Her health is degrading day by day." Saying this Tara became sad, her eyes were filled with tears.

"Is there any anything that I can do to help??" Seeing Tara's sad face, Mrityunjay felt helpless.

"No, her health is beyond cure. I am just fulfilling her last wishes," said Tara cleaning her face.

There was again a complete silence in the car.

"Joseph, stop the car." Tara got down from the car.

"Mrityunjay please come and have a cup of coffee." She was trying to thank Mrityunjay for all his deeds in Nainital and here.

"Not today, I will come on some other day. As I have now seen your home, so I will come whenever I want." He chuckled.

"As you wish." Saying this, she bid good bye to Mrityunjay.

Joseph drove the car home.

On the way home, Mrityunjay was thinking about Tara, he wanted to help her. He knew what it felt to lose dear ones. Again all memories of his parents and Radha where resurfacing in his mind, the thoughts which had left him one month ago were once again troubling him. He was sinking in those thoughts when Joseph informed him of their arrival at home.

Mrityunjay was sad. He walked straight to his room.

Dadaji noticed this change. He was surprised to see the old Mrityunjay back again, there was no trace of the one month old new Mrityunjay. He saw once again that old depressed Mrityunjay from a year back.

"Joseph what happened today? Why does Mrityunjay seem depressed?" inquired Dadaji.

"Remember Sir I told you about Nainital trip and about a girl named Tara. Mrityunjay met her again after one month. He was happy to meet her once again, but after knowing her mother's critical health condition he got depressed."

"I need to talk Dr. Faheem about this." Saying this, Dadaji went to his room.

Today Mrityunjay was surrounded by all the old memories of his parents. He took his parents photo and started crying.

"I lost my parents, in just a blink of eyes. I wanted them to see me growing up, see me fulfilling dreams."

"After winning each trophy, I wanted to gift it to my parents, but they were not there to share it with me." Mrityunjay wept like a small kid and went to sleep sobbing.

Next day in office, Mrityunjay was feeling sad. He left for home within two hours. On his way back home, he asked Joseph to take yesterday's route.

He stopped in front of the hospital. After thinking for a few moments, he stepped out of the car. He purchased a bouquet and fruits and went inside the hospital.

At the reception, he asked for the room number of the patient suffering from cancer last stage. The receptionist asked Mrityunjay for the name of the patient. He said he didn't know the patient's name but knew her daughter name.

"Tara's mother is in which room?"

"Oh.,,. you mean Aradhana ji," The receptionist guided Mrityunjay to Aradhana's room.

He thanked the receptionist for her assistance and followed the path for Aradhana's room. Once he was outside the room, he looked at the door, gathered his courage and then opened the door slowly.

"You came beta ..."

He heard a weak voice of a woman lying on a hospital bed.

He saw a near about 55 year old woman surrounded by various electronic equipment showing various readings, beep sounds of machines and smell of medicines.
Seeing this condition of that woman his eyes got moistened.

"Tara...You didn't go to college beta?? I had already told you beta please don't leave college for me. That is the only place where life is. There is nothing near me beta." That woman was talking keeping her eyes closed.

Mrityunjay was still standing at the door. He was loving the motherly scolding given by Aradhana. He was praising Tara for her good luck for having a mother. God can't be everywhere so he made mom.

After five minutes when Aradhana didn't hear any response, she opened her eyes.
She saw a man with a bouquet and fruits.

"I am getting old beta. Can you please tell me who you are?" asked Aradhana, trying to recognize Mrityunjay.

"Aunty, I am Mrityunjay, Tara's friend," said Mrityunjay moving towards Aradhana.

"Mrityunjay?? Tara never told me about you. Or she might have told me but I have forgotten," smiled Aradhana. She tried to sit and Mrityunjay helped her.

"Aunty, this is for you." Mrityunjay handed over the bouquet and fruits to Aradhana.

"There was no need of this beta."

"If Tara would have done this, would you have said the same thing Aunty?" Mrityunjay asked Aradhana taking her hand in his.

Aradhana kept her hand on Mrityunjay's head and said,
"Bless you my son."

A tear trickled from Mrityunjay's eyes. After a gap of 20 years, he once again got motherly love. That touch of Aradhana was a wish fulfilled for Mrityunjay. He always wished for his mother to bless him, but she was not there.

Seeing Mrityunjay's teary eyes Aradhana was surprised.

"What happened beta??"

"Nothing, I just remembered my mom." He said cleaning his face.

"Oh... So where is she??" Aradhana was trying to know about Mrityunjay's tears.

"She is no more. My parents died in a car accident when I was a kid."
His face was getting sad, remembering his parents and his eyes were once again filled with tears.

"Sorry! Beta I didn't want to make you cry." Aradhana realized how much pain Mrityunjay might be going through remembering his parents.

"It's ok Aunty," he said bringing a smile on his face.

"Anyone else to call family?"

"Yes my Dadaji, Dhanraj Singh Shekhawat."

After hearing his name, Aradhana was shocked. Her daughter is the friend of one of the country's big business tycoon's grandson and never told her about this.

Then Mrityunjay formally introduced himself to her. He also told her about his first meeting with Tara on Nainital trip.

"Ma'am it's time for your medicine."
The Nurse interrupted Mrityunjay and Aradhana's conversation.

"Nurse you tell me, I will give her."
He wanted to take care of Aradhana while he was there.

"Who are you?" The Nurse was quite rude while asking this.

Aradhana noticed Mrityunjay's sad face hearing the nurse's question.

"Nurse, he is my son. Tell him he will give me the medicine."
She tried to make Mrityunjay comfortable and lessen his pain of being an orphan.

The Nurse instructed Mrityunjay about the medicines and left the room.

Hearing Aradhana addressing him in this motherly way, Mrityunjay was overwhelmed with joy. He hugged her and cried like a small kid keeping his head on Aradhana's lap. After many years Mrityunjay was feeling light. The burdens of life were away today. Mother's lap is the best place in the world to let go of your worries.

Aradhana narrated her life story to Mrityunjay. How Tara left everything, every desire for her.

Mrityunjay was in hospital for the whole day. He gave Aradhana medicines in the exact way the nurse had said.

"Beta you spend your whole day here, now you should go. You must be having your work too."

"No Aunty, I took a day off from office." Mrityunjay didn't want to leave Aradhana.

"I don't know what happened today that Tara didn't come here till now. Otherwise she is here after 3 pm."

"She must be busy in some work. Why you are worried? I am here, your son." Mrityunjay hugged Aradhana.

"Beta I am worried for Tara. I know within 2 -3 months I will die. After me, what will happen to Tara?? I have told her many times to get married but she has always declined it." Saying this Aradhana started coughing.

Mrityunjay helped her, made her drink medicine and then laid her on the bed.
"Take rest aunty, everything will be fine."
He made Aradhana sleep. After she slept, Mrityunjay left the hospital after instructing the nurse to take good care of Aradhana.

After Mrityunjay left the hospital, Tara arrived. The Nurse informed her about Aradhana sleeping.

"Mom sleeping so early?"

Tara was surprised to know this, as Aradhana never slept before talking to Tara, without taking medicine.
She entered the room slowly, and yes her mother was sleeping. After many days there was a relief on Aradhana's face. She also noticed the bouquet.

She inquired about that from the Nurse. She informed about that day's incident with her and the man in Aradhana's room. His talk and closeness with Aradhana like he was Aradhana's son. She also informed her about him taking good care of Aradhana.

Tara was thinking who was that man, she knew every relative and there was no relative who ever came to meet her mother, then who can this man be. Tara sat near Aradhana watching her sleeping peacefully after many years. She left for home after an hour.

Mrityunjay entered the house with a smile. Like a small kid he was jumping, dancing, singing while climbing the stairs to his room.

Dadaji was surprised to see him like this as he never did like that, even when he was a kid. Dadaji called Joseph and asked the reason for this behavior of Mrityunjay.

Joseph informed him about his visit to the hospital to see Tara's mother. And after he left the hospital, he has been acting weird.

"Now it's necessary to meet Dr. Fahim." Thinking this, he called Dr. Fahim and informed him about Mrityunjay's changed behavior. Dr. Fahim assured Dadaji that this change is good and he is coming home to witness the changes in his son.

After half an hour, Dr. Fahim arrived at Shekhawat Villa. He went straight to Mrityunjay's room. He was surprised to see that room. The room was once again filled with things which he had left one year ago. Blank drawing sheets, guitar and sketches were indicating the good change in Mrityunjay.

Dr. Fahim asked Mrityunjay about his Nainital trip.

He narrated the whole Nainital trip excitedly, clearly indicating his well-being. Then he asked about his day today. He expressed his meeting with Tara's mom and her motherly love for which he had craved for after death of his parents.

After few more talks, Dr. Fahim made his way straight to Dadaji's room.

He informed Dadaji about Mrityunjay's recovery.

"It is just the starting of Mrityunjay's recovery from his depression. I must say Nainital and Tara both did their magic on my boy."
Dr. Fahim was very happy seeing Mrityunjay happy.

"I would like to meet that girl Tara. Her views and her talk has helped him a lot." He smiled.

"Hmm...I am thinking the same."
Thinking this, Dadaji called Joseph and asked him whether he knew Tara's address and after knowing that he knows her address, he decided to visit her tomorrow.

"I am excited to meet that girl who made my child smile."
Dadaji smiled.

Meeting Stranger

Part (a)

Tonight Tara was thinking about the man who had met her mother. But she was not able to figure out who that man might be. After many failed attempts, she gave up thinking about the unknown visitor and thought to ask her mother tomorrow.

Next day Tara took half day leave from college. She hurried for the hospital as she had not talked to her mother since yesterday and also to find out about the unknown visitor.

When she entered her mother's room she saw a man with broad back and strong arms, quite tall, sitting on the stool near her mother. Her mother was talking to that man in a very friendly way like she had known him for a long time, which made Tara more confused and curious about the man.

On seeing Tara entering the room, Aradhana called her.
"Tara, beta you are here. I missed you my child."
Her voice clearly depicted her joy and how lively she was feeling.

Tara was happy to hear her mother's voice filled with hope and life.
"Is this change in her because of this man?"
She went near Aradhana's bed and turned her face to see the man sitting on the stool which had filled her mother with hope.

She was surprised on seeing the man. She had never thought that Mrityunjay could ever visit her mother.
"Mrityunjay you!!!" she said with an utterly surprised tone.

Before Tara could ask any other question, Aradhana narrated his yesterday's visit to the hospital.
"Tara you never told me that you are a friend of Dhanraj Singh Shekhawat's grandson," Aradhana whispered in Tara's ears.

"Mom oh...I forgot to tell you about that." She said hugging her mom.

"Mrityunjay you are here!!"
Tara was still in her shocked state, how can he come to meet her? Being a big businessman, how he managed to take time out for an old dying lady??

"Tara." His heavy husky voice broke Tara's thought chain.
"How are you?"

"Fine."

"I was just passing by the hospital yesterday when I remembered that aunty is here, so I came to meet her."

Tara smiled at his reason.

"Tara...I should leave now. I have to go to work. You also have to go to college. I can drop you there."

"No Mrityunjay, I took half day leave from college, so will go after two hours. Thank you for your help."

Aradhana was seeing them talking and was adoring them.
"How wonderful it would be if these two get married." Aradhana was surprised at her own thought.

"Ok Aunty take care, will meet again soon." Saying this, Mrityunjay hugged Aradhana and left the room.
Tara followed him.

"Mrityunjay thanks for coming. After a long time I saw mom smiling. I think you are the reason for her happiness."

Mrityunjay just smiled and left that place.

Meeting Stranger

Part (b)

"Car is ready sir," said Joseph to Dadaji.

"Ok, then let's move." Saying this, Dadaji moved towards the car.
"You know the hospital and Tara both, that's why today I did not allow you to go with Mrityunjay."

"Yes Sir."

After half an hour, Dadaji reached the hospital. He asked at the reception for Tara's mother's room and reached there. Joseph accompanied his Sir.

He entered the room. He saw a woman lying on the bed and another woman draped in a saree taking care of her.

"Sir, she is Tara." Joseph whispered, pointing towards Tara.

Dadaji was impressed with the simple dressing style of Tara.

"Dhanraj Singh Shekhawat...Sir..." Tara thought. She was surprised to see a big business tycoon in her mother's ward.

"You are Tara...right?" He smiled.

"Yes sir."

"I am Mrityunjay's Dada."

"Yes sir I know. Please come."

She approached near Aradhana and whispered his arrival in her ears. Tara made Aradhana sit up on her bed.

Aradhana and Dadaji both greeted each other.

"Mrityunjay came here yesterday evening and today morning before going to office," said Aradhana.

"Oh...he visited here again...hmm..." thought Dadaji.

"Yes...yes ...he told me about you. So thought I should meet you and Tara."

After a few talks, Aradhana found Dadaji to be like her father.
"Thanks sir for coming. When relatives stop visiting, meeting unknown people makes one feel good. I don't want anything for me from life, I have lived it enough but my Tara...She has stopped living it. For the last five years her full concentration has been on me. I feel bad for her." A few tears rolled down her eyes.

Tara hugged her and patted on her back and said, "Oh...mom...I am fine."

"After me she will be alone. I told her to marry but she neglects this every time. And with increasing age who will marry her? This is the only worry I have in my life."

"She will get married soon, who wouldn't want a daughter-in-law like her?" Dadaji caressed Tara's head.

"Ok mom. Now I need to leave. I have to go to college." Saying this Tara kissed Aradhana on her forehead.

"Wait Tara, I am leaving too. I will drop you where you have to go," said Dadaji standing up from the stool.

"Thank you Sir. But I don't want to bother you. I will get rickshaw outside the hospital."

"Tara, please for keeping this old man's wish ...come with me."

"Ok sir."

She sat in the car.

"So Tara, why do you do this job?" Dadaji questioned.

"For my mother. She wants me to go to college and be surrounded by people who have life. I am only fulfilling her wish. Otherwise I would not have left her for a single second." Tara's eyes were filled with tears.

"Oh...my child..." Dadaji patted her.

"I am fine sir."

"Call me Dadaji. I am Mrityunjay's Dadaji and he is your friend, then I am your Dadaji too."

Tara smiled.

They reached the college. Tara touched his feet and thanked him for his lift.

On his way home, he was thinking over and over about Tara. Her simplicity, her manner had impressed him. He called Dr. Fahim and asked him to come home.

******

At 6 pm sharp, Mrityunjay was in the hospital. Tara was stunned to see him there again. Aradhana and Mrityunjay were talking and laughing. Seeing her mom happy, Tara felt happy. After two hours, the nurse came to inform that visiting hours are over and Mrityunjay needs to leave.

"Tara, are you going home now?" Mrityunjay questioned looking at his watch.

"No I will go after one hour," she replied giving medicines to Aradhana.

"Tara go my child, I am fine and feeling sleepy. What will you do here after I am asleep? Go." Aradhana insisted Tara to leave.

"Ok mom."

Mrityunjay hugged Aradhana. Tara kissed Aradhana and then left with Mrityunjay. Aradhana was adoring the two leaving her ward.
"I wish my daughter gets married to someone like him."

On their way to Tara's house, Tara informed Mrityunjay about Dadaji visit. Mrityunjay was a little confused why he visited there. They talked about random things like Mumbai's traffic, weather, Yug and his friends, about their studies till they reached Tara's house.
Tara insisted Mrityunjay to come inside and have coffee. Mrityunjay agreed.

Mrityunjay entered Tara's apartment. It was a one bed room hall type apartment. Neat and clean. All things at their place. Tara offered Mrityunjay a seat and entered the kitchen to make coffee. Mrityunjay was observing the busy road of Mumbai from the balcony when Tara joined him with coffee.

"You might not be getting bored Tara. Here so much life is there, this constant noise, jerks and breaks. Noise of people. And at my home, it's very lonely. In a big mansion only three people live - me, Dadaji and Raghu Kaka."

"I must say Mrityunjay you must not be getting bored at home. You have two people to talk to and I ... I am lonely here. One should be thankful for what they have, because someone else might be wanting for what you are not thankful." Mrityunjay was quietly listening to Tara.

After a while, Mrityunjay left Tara's house. When he was about to sit in the car, he looked up to see Tara who was standing in the balcony. A nearby music shop was playing.

~Tum bhi tanha the
Hum bhi tanha the
Milke rone lage

Ek jaise the dono ke gham dawa hone lage
Tujhme muskurate hain
Tujhme gungunate hain
Khud ko tere paas hi chhod aate hain
Tere hi khayalon mein
Doobe doobe jaate hain
Khud ko tere paas hi chhod aate hain~

Both of them heard it, and smiled.

*******

At home, Dadaji was waiting for Dr. Fahim when Mrityunjay arrived.

"How was your day my boy?" Dadaji questioned seeing Mrityunjay smiling.

"It was good."
After thinking for a second he asked, "Dadaji did you go to the hospital to see Tara's mom?"

"Yes my son. And you too??" Mrityunjay nodded in yes.

"I went to see one of my friends there when Joseph identified Tara, so I thought to meet her. By the way how is her mother now?"

"She is fine."

"And Tara??"

"She too. She is such a mature and strong person..." He stopped in the middle of the sentence seeing Dr. Fahim arriving.

"Hello Uncle. Nice to see you here." Mrityunjay hugged him.

Dr. Fahim gave a pleasantly surprised smile to Dadaji.

"You sit uncle. I will join you in a few moments." Saying this, Mrityunjay went to his room.

Dr. Fahim was awestruck seeing Mrityunjay so lively.

Dadaji patted his back with a smile.
"Uncle, this is our Mrityunjay??" he asked still in disbelief. "How??"

"It's Tara's effect."

"Remember you told me Tara did magic, see the result of her magic. She is a magician, she is a breeze of happiness and hope, and I want to bring that breeze to my home, to my Mrityunjay's life."

Seeing Dr. Fahim confused he continued, "I want Mrityunjay to get married to Tara."

"Uncle that will be the best but do you think he will agree to this??"

"He will. If not directly then indirectly he has to."

******

At the dinner table in between random talk Dadaji asked, "What do you think about Tara?"

"She is a good human being."

"I mean marrying Tara. What do you think?"

"Dadaji I don't want to get married." After this sentence, there was complete silence in the room.

After dinner, Mrityunjay was restless in his room remembering all the past bad memories of losing his parents and his best friend Radha.

Turmoil within him was making him duller. Before sleeping, he opened his wardrobe and saw the red scarf which gave him a chance to smile.
