Last week, Karan Johar announced that his production house, Dharma Productions, would be producing a remake of Subhash Ghai's Ram Lakhan' (1989). News is now doing the rounds that actor Ranbir Kapoor has been approached to play the role of Lakhan, originally essayed by Anil Kapoor.
"Ever since Karan announced that he had purchased the remake rights, everyone started speculating as to who would be perfect for Anil and Jackie's roles. Initially, there were rumours about Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra being the ideal duo to play brothers on screen. Later, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh's names were tossed around... Now, reports suggest that Ranbir has been approached. Karan recently met him and spoke to him about the role. Ranbir has also apparently agreed in principle though an official announcement is awaited. Anil and Jackie's roles need strong actors and the first name that came up was apparently Ranbir's," a source informed Absolute India.
It can be noted that during the promotions of Yash Raj Films' Gunday' (2014), Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh expressed their desire to star in a remake of Ram Lakhan' together.
The original film starred Jackie Shroff as Ram and Anil Kapoor as Lakhan. Dimple Kapadia and Madhuri Dixit played their respective love interests. While an announcement on the cast for the remake is expected soon, all that has been confirmed as of yet is that it will be directed by Rohit Shetty.
