Chapter 1
Asad
After the Mungalpur incident, Asad found himself unable to forget the events of those few days and especially what happened with Zoya. What did happen with Zoya? He was so confused about the turbulent feelings that were constantly plaguing him. He just couldn't forget.
He couldn't forget how it felt to have them handcuffed together, the constant feeling that came with knowing she was so close. She was beautiful, he could admit that. It's not that he never thought she was. He noticed since he first saw her in the temple in Darbaa. She was breathtaking. He couldn't have kept his eyes off her if he tried. But then their constant run-ins and she was such a rude girl. Totally unconventional. Everything about her. He couldn't stop himself from their constant arguments. She just brought it out of him.
A vision of Zoya lying lifeless caked in dirt and debris flashed through Asad's mind. He couldn't believe how dead he felt inside seeing her lying so still and unmoving. He thought for sure he'd lost her and he knew he'd never have forgiven himself for her death. But when Aarti said she was still breathing? Well his heart felt like it'd had just started beating again. He couldn't explain it. Was he in love with Zoya Farooqui? No. He couldn't be. They hated each other right? He used to think that. Now he wasn't so sure . . .
Zoya
"Allah Miya! What's wrong with me?" Zoya said out loud to no one in particular. She sat on her bed after taking a shower, washing away the reminders of her near-death experience. She couldn't believe how close she came to losing her life. If it wasn't for Mr. Khan, she'd be dead. Her mind flashed to Mr. Khan crying over her limp body as he kissed her forehead in relief. Her brows scrunched together in confusion. He hates me right? But he looked so broken. He was a mess. And what Aartiji said about him being so scared.
Her mind flashed to Mr. Khan holding her on the truck, giving her water and wiping her dirt-caked face. Her brows furrowed again. She was so confused. But he was acting differently now. He acted like he didn't want to be around her. She was confused. She knew she should be long gone from his house but it just seemed to be one thing after another that slowed her down in her task to find her father. She needed to stay in India till she found him. There was no other option.

Zoya stepped out of her room and instantly locked eyes with Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan. He sat in the sitting room, book open but otherwise untouched. As she stepped further into the room, he got up and walked away into his own room, shutting the door soundly behind him. She frowned but ever determined she approached his room ready to thank him for all he done for her while in Mangalpur and to apologize for putting him in that situation to begin with.
She knocked once . . . twice . . . three times till he finally opened the door. He didn't speak but just looked at her enquiringly.
"I want to talk to you Mr. Khan." she saw reluctance on his face so she quickly tacked on, "Please."
He stepped back and she entered. As soon as he sat down she began. "Thank you, Mr. Khan. For saving my life in Mangalpur. And I'm sorry."
"For what?" he said looking at the floor. At anywhere but her.
"For everything." she answered. "For putting you in such a dangerous situation. For taking away the three days you wanted away from me. For your hand being hurt. For putting you in a situation where you had to go against family." she sighed heavily. "I'm really sorry, Mr. Khan. For everything I caused in Mangalpur and for everything you don't like that I do here." Her throat started to feel tight. She knew how little he liked her staying in his house and with no Ammi, no idea where her father was, she felt so alone at times, trying hard not to show it. "I'm just sorry for everything." She said.
"It's okay." He said in a low voice still not looking up. He stood up after that and stood near his bed with his hands folded.
"Is your hand okay Mr. Khan?" Zoya asked quietly. "I can make something for it. I saw many homemade healing pastes online. I. . ."
"It's fine." he cut her off. "I'm fine."
She stepped up behind him and he turned around. "Please Mr. Khan it would help me ease my guilt if I could do this one thing." She moved closer but tripped on his rug and fell straight into his arms. He caught her firmly to his chest but when she realized what had happened and where she was she struggled away and threw them both off-balanced with both falling onto his bed with Mr. Khan landing on top of her.

Asad
Asad looked deep into Zoya's dark eyes, he was locked. He couldn't move. They stared into each other's eyes for what seemed like ages. He couldn't believe it but his heart was speeding up. His hands moved down to her waist of their own accord and his other hand raised to her face without thought. He caressed the soft skin of her cheek as she inhaled deeply.
Zoya
Mr. Khan was touching her. The look in his eyes anything but hate or detachment. He was looking at her with . . . love? No couldn't be love but it was intense. His hand brushed her cheek and his eyes trailed over her face slowly, lingering on her lips that she fought the urge to wet her lips with her tongue.
Wait . . . what?
"Mr. Khan?" Zoya breathed out softly. He didn't seem to hear her, just continued to caress her cheek, his hand on her hip gripping.
"Mr. Khan?" she said again. Nothing. "A-Asad." That brought him out. He seemed to break out of a trance. Their faces were so close she could feel his breath on her skin.
And then like a dream he was gone. His heat, his body, standing at the foot of the bed as Zoya struggled to her feet. She should say something. Anything. Allah Miya! Speak Zoya. Use your words. Her mouth moved but nothing came out so she did the first thing that came to her mind. She fled.
Asad
"What the hell just happened? What is going on here?" He was more confused than ever. . .
