Mani Ratnam shelved his major projects, Mahabharat and Lajjo, because he had a tiff with producer Bobby Bedi.
Mani Ratnam paid for his son's fare and thought that he would distance himself gradually from Bedi. However, Bobby went up to Mani Ratnam and expressed his regret over the incident and requested him to work with him again.
"Mani sir agreed and they announced the making of Mahabharata," the source said, "However Bobby wasn't aware that Mani sir would take a year to do his research and then begin work on the film."
Work on the production proceeded at snail's pace so Bobby then suggested that they put together a quick film.
"Mani sir then announced Lajjo with Aamir and Kareena. Everything seemed to be fine, but when Aamir quoted his price, Bobby said he didn't want to pay that much because it would take the film over its budget. At that point Aamir walked out and Mani sir shelved it as he did not want to work with anyone else."
Ratnam is now looking for another producer to make Mahabharata with, the source added.
