I think modis should've told tm and maybe Atleast let them see rashi once. They are soon going to find out and are going to be heartbroken.

This delay in not telling them will get them worried

I think that the Modis were right in not allowing TM to see their mother's face. As eight year olds they are too young to cope with such a sight. However, it is wrong not to tell them that their mother is dead. It won't help in their grieving process.

They should have been told and given the choice whether to see their mother one last time and on top of it they keep reassuring the kids that rashi will be back soon which is just a terrible thing to do. Kids are distressed not knowing why their mother is not there. I think the kid will react badly towards the modi's now because they kept so much from them and for such so long time period. If gopi tells them the truth that rashi died then it would be better but if they are going to continually lie to them they are going to loose the kids faith in them altogether if they haven't already.

Yes they should have been shown. Its stupid that they were not allowed that. It doesnt happen in real life. Though it will be a shock, it will help them bring a closure in the immediate future and long run too.
