Chapter Three: Confrontation
Shyam Manohar Jha did not like to lose, be it in court or life.
But ever since he had met Khushi that is all he seemed to be doing. No more, he decided. Khushi would be his, one way or another. Anjali had escaped the trap he had set for her this time, but he was a persistent man. He will kill her.
But he had to hurry, the last time he had seen Khushi, she was getting too close to Arnav for his comfort. Even though Khushi had said some hurtful things to him just now, he knew that she didn't mean them. Why wouldn't she want to be with him? He loved her. He would do anything for her. Why would she reject someone as devoted as him? She was just playing hard to get, he decided. And he was up for the challenge.
He had to be careful though, he had to make sure that none of the Raizadas were suspicious of his activities. The Guptas had kept quiet so far, and they would continue to do so as long as they were worried about Payal's marriage. It wouldn't do to lose the inheritance he would be getting once he pulled the plug on Anjali. He had gotten used to living in the lap of luxury, and he had no intention of giving that up.
But luck wasn't on his side, as in the next second, Arnav was standing in front of him with something akin to disgust on his face.
"I need to talk to you."
Shyam frowned. Something wasn't right.
"Sure, saale saab. Lead the way."
Shyam did not notice the way Arnav's eyes flashed when he addressed him as his brother-in-law.
As soon as they stepped foot in the guest bedroom, Shyam felt himself being slammed into a wall with enough force to knock his breath out.
"Sa..Saale saab?" he questioned, confused.
"How dare you!?" Arnav bit out through clenched teeth. "How dare you betray my sister!?"
"Wh...what are you talking about?" Shyam asked, trying to get out of the choke hold he was in.
"Don't lie to me, you bas***d! I saw you on the terrace!" Arnav screamed, increasing the pressure on Shyam's throat.
Shyam's entire demeanor changed when he realized that he really was caught. No point acting now, he thought.
He shoved Arnav off of him and let out a maniacal laugh. "So you figured it out, huh?"
"You bast..." Arnav started, but Shyam cut him off.
"Calm down, Saale saab," he said with a cunning smile. "No need to get all worked up. I am in love with Khushi, so what?"
Arnav's hand clenched into fists, as much in reaction to the hurt he felt, as in anger. It wouldn't do to create a scene during the wedding though.
"How could you do that to Di? She loves you so much, how could you betray her?" Arnav screamed.
Shyam felt a smile creep up on his face at seeing Arnav so...helpless. Here was the business tycoon the world was terrified of, falling apart at the seams.
Arnav lost control of his anger when he saw Shyam smirk. He took hold of his collar and slammed him into the wall again, "I am not going to spare you, you understand? I will make you pay! You and that Khushi Kumari Gupta are going to be begging for death when I am done with you!"
So he thinks Khushi is in love with me? Well, well, Arnav, this is going to be fun.
Shyam's smile grew wider at his thought.
"Don't you dare smile, you asshole!"
"Relax, Arnav. What are you going to do? Tell the family that Khushi and I love each other? Go ahead! I have been waiting for this day, we have been waiting," Shyam paused, letting his words sink in. "But what will you tell Anjali, Arnav? Will you be able to tell your precious Di that her husband, the one she loves with all her life, loves someone else? Will she be able to take it?" taunted Shyam.
"You and Khushi disgust me. My Di gave you so much respect and you..."
"Tsk...tsk...tsk...careful, Arnav. What Khushi and I have? It's love. Show some respect," Shyam smirked. "She's my life now. I will do anything for her...anything."
Arnav closed his eyes, trying to shut out the images of Khushi hugging this bas***d. How could she? How could she betray him like that? How could she hurt Di? The Khushi he knew would never...But did you ever know her? whispered a voice at the back of his head.
Shyam went on, oblivious to the war raging inside Arnav's head.
"And the only obstacle between me and Khushi is Rani Sahiba," he whispered, menacingly.
