I think Vijay Prakash (SRGM) recently sang for Cheeni Kum.

With so many music shows on the air, if one or two singers make it big in Bollywood, its not a bad ratio.

As for II singers, Prajakta is always in the news even though her solo album didn't do to well. I think Sony BMG is more to blame cos they didn't promote it properly. Many of songs weren't originals either (rangeela re tere) The only 'chartbuster' song was Dhakka. I think the same is true for Meenal's Mehram album. It wasn't promoted too well by Times Music.

SRGMP has music directors as mentors. The contestants have more of a chance of getting a break. Look at VS. They've offered six contestants a break already. But it remains to be seen if the promises are fulfilled. Also, do they plan on giving them solo songs or one song with four-five singers? Many questions!!

HR has offered songs to many contestants too this season too. I'm sure Anu Malik will make some offers, for the camera, if nothing else. As for the other judges, there's not really much a singer or respected lyricist (well, it depends) could do but to suggest names to MDs. Of course, there's always a Sonu who took some contestants to his concerts last year. Lets see what happens.

From II2, Karunya is the only one to have gotten decent breaks in Bollywood. Antara had a duet with Sonu Nigam but she just had a few lines. Meenal's song from RGV's GO. What happened to it? I haven't even heard anything on the film yet! Wasn't Sandeep supposed to sing in a Fardeen Khan movie (heard the song before the II2 season ended)? Was the film shelved? 😕

One thing is for sure. Sony hardly promoted II2 contestants, except for a show here and there. We were supposed to hear Amey sing in II3 but what happened to that? Despite that, some of doing well. Stage shows aren't isn't bad.

As for II3, to expect one of the best singers to win is just asking for too much...we know it doesn't happen...

The singers from srgmpa show the poster mentioned are all of those era when there were no other music competitions and such reality shows. Meri Awaaz Suno on Doordarshan was one of a kind and the male and female winners were promised a Yash Raj contract. Pradeep and Sunidhi were the winners but Yash Raj never gave them any contract and Sunidhi had to struggle a lot. It was her ex. husband Bobby Khan who got her contacts of Music bigwigs and she started off singing not so famous songs. Pradeep being a Malayali tried in Kerala movies. From saregamapa only Shreya got lucky because SLB noticed her. Rest all had to struggle for a while and hard.

It was II which started this reality type show with audiecnce involvement and saregamapa followed suit. So if there should be any comparison then it should be from 2005 onwards. If we compare II and saregamapa contestants then it is evident that IIs are doing better in terms of album deals and money. Zee TV promotes their talent well and also provides them oppurtunity. Sony doesn't always keep it's promise or promote their singers. Even then most of II singers of season 1 and 2 are making hay doing stage shows and are doing quite well. Everyone cannot become a Bollywood singer so I like the way II promotes its singers as complete package.

We have to understand one thing, Shreya and Sunidhi came when Alka and Kavita were leaving, there was a good gap for singers with such voices. Now with both Shreya and Sunidhi going strong and singers like Shipa Rao (Javeda Zindagi), Richa Sharma, Madhushree singing occasionally and Alka and Kavita ji still singing, its hard for any singer to break into. We really cant blame the channel.

A classic example of the above is Sanjeevani, she came into the industry when Alka was at her peak, look what happened to her, a few songs and she vanished.

Same with the guys. Sonu Nigam himself struggled so much to break into the mainstream bollywood with Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan at their peak. It was only till late 90s that Sonu Nigam was able to make a mark. As Udit and Kumar Sanu slowly started cutting down the songs, were Sonu, Shaan, Kunal and KK able to rise.

I used to initialyl get very annoyed when the winners of reality shows aren't given chances but then again, its not a channels fault. Naresh Iyer is a classic example. He took part in Channel [V]'s super singer, which was even before Indian Idol 1. He wasn't even selected into the top 50 of the competition. Adnan Sami was the main judge and on one of the episodes, Rahman came too. It was the episode form 75 - 50. After hearing Naresh Iyer, who sang a Carnatic song, the next day Rahman told hm.I hve a good news and a bad news. bad news is, you have to say bye to this competition and good news is that come 2mo to the recording studio. The rest is history. Naresh Iyer sang in some of Rahman's fantastic music works in Tamil, telugu and made a debut in hindi RDB and won the R D Burman award for that ! Now that is what luck is about !!

Whom would you credit his sucess too? Channel V, Super Singer ?? I would say to himself !

I'd say to both Naresh and ARR. Not every MD is willing to give such a good break to a newcomer. Part of the success depends on the composition and to some extent, the film.

Soham (Meri Awaaz Suno and SRGM) songs from both Metro and Dhoom 2 are hits: Dil laga na and In dinon. I don't know what year he took part in the shows but I don't think it was too recent.

Few years from now, we may hear success stories of former II contestants. It takes years to make a mark sometimes. Its too early to write off some of the contestants, especially the relatively younger ones like Karunya and Prajakta.

Some II1 contestants are doing well..slow but steady...

Amit Sana sang for Rabbi Shergill's Delhi Heights. The film wasn't too popular but the music was generally well appreciated by most.

He seems to me as a clone of AR Rehman. He is lucky that ARR has given him so many oppurtunities as playback and taking him along for stage shows.

True, but unfortunately, even talent isn't recognized sometimes. Thanks to the glitz, glamor and hype surrounding the current music shows, the show could also play a role in one's fame and success.
