Indi, yes most of the other serials are dubbed too I.can say for sure for Telugu. Not a single reasonably successful one is left. Once the serial goes on air it's all channel's property. The regional channels must be paying all the GEC network channels hefty amounts for these rights. Not even the Production houses have any rights let alone the actors.
But I am not sure of remakes. I don't know of any Hindi serial being remade in telugu where as in Kannada and Bengali IPk is remade . Perhaps each region has its own way of gaining these rights, some for remakes and some for dubbed versions.

thanks, indu,

i don't watch regional channels, i beare watch any tv, and i have really no idea about the content logistics of the umpteen channels. so if everything sells i guess nothing special about ipk then... my bias is not everyone's too he he.

but i can't help thinking, "asr-khushi" is a beautiful idea and you can tell their story again and again and always wonderfully... james bond like they can come back in many love stories, now that a stunning oeuvre is created... just write a good one and get the two original actors in and you might have an explosiove product. not a daily soap though. more like a season... 13 episodes of maybe an hour each...

when i see the longing on social media, something tells me, picture abhi baki hai...

yes yes i know i need to get a life. 😆

i kept on wondering if it's shyam and always told myself it couldn't be... i thought i rreplied to this post... now where is it.

i genuinely believed shyam is too small a fry to take on asr. there had to be a real "boss". perhaps chacha ji or his descendant... i even believed like a fool that people were serious about the writing and there will be a denouement of sheeshmahal... but no, he is the man... and really that killing of baby... i have a feeling i will be skipping that whole thing... unconscionable writing. and what was all that glass on the mat stuff, this is decorating a horrific idea with a further lack of any conscience only to hype things to a point where it is believed trp showers down on you.

rhea, the loss of ipk, now as i watch i know, was even more horrendous than i had thought before. my emotions were terribly churned those days and how desperately many of us waited for the show to pick up its early beauty but no, nothing worked... all along it was dismal writing and silly shenanigans to "fix" things.

this desperation for dough, separates the greats from the less so. they took ipk to a place it never really should have gone to.

but to keep a thing true, you need love... and not just for money.

You did reply, but on the other medium Indi. 😊

Rhea, coming to your question. At that time, I was just by myself, no reading on the net or discussions with anyone so didn't know that a debate was on about who the culprit could be. I always thought it was Shyam. But a couple of times, did get the feeling that they would turn one of the good characters into an evil one, as has happened in many shows previously. But, it was Shyam all the way.

Again, I agree with Indi. Chacha should have come in at this time. Would have made way for a great story telling and unraveling of the past. But, at that time, I hadn't yet seen the initial episodes so didn't know that a chacha existed who could be wanting revenge.

episode 270

an episode carried by two actors mainly, utkarsha naik and sanaya irani, as it's the day to play detective and find arnav ji anyhow, somehow. might have been interesting, but for the decision to go funny, almost comic, while on a desperate search to find the man who makes khushi's heart beat faster.

no, not just that. with whom her heartbeat is one.

hamari dhadkaney ek ho jati hai.

when you are close to me, our heartbeats become one, a man with flowing tenderness and love had said at a poolside to a girl who wanted to know, why? why does this happen? when you're near me my heartbeats quicken?

today that man is in the hands of vile revolver toting men and the girl searches frantically for him.

where exactly do writers think, comedy fits in in the middle of it?

sometimes i really wonder about caring for what you do... not only because you are paid to do it, but because you believe you have the talent to do it, you want to, you almost need to. writing somewhere is a bit of compulsion... i write enough and more to have started to understand that.

i can never ever understand why writers lost it because one actor would not be around for a bit over a month... though actually he was available to shoot often... and it was quite possible to stay sane and centred through this not too long a span of time.

after the spectacular 266 and 267, what makes a writer come to 269 or 270 or 271... i just don't get.

sanaya irani is a powerful actress.

the love story is absolutely established.

the viewer is engrossed in it. there are beautiful scenes that may be brought on through flashbacks and other means. or, i am sure there are many rushes, especially of the two hugs and the hut sequence that can be edited differently and used. what's more, barun sobti will come in for a shoot every now and then so you can have fresh shots...

surely one can stay cogent while telling the tale of asr's kidnap and not turn to disjointed story, strange comedy, and a tinny feel to it all. instead of fretting about what will happen if the audience misses barun, had they taken this opportunity to give the whole kidnap tale meaning i have a feeling this turning to ridiculous comedy might not have happened.

in fact, now that i think, it was the ideal time to really develop why the kidnap, why the will was important, what the whole thing was about...

and what happened to the directors? that opening sequence of someone trying to drop something on mami ji, or the chase in the toy shop... why so fake? when the same guys are doing the beautifully shot hugs and hut?

also, no matter what, asr's wife and aunt cannot be shown haring around delhi in autos... if they can't use the raizada cars for the sake of anonymity or whatever, both have the wherewithal to hire a car.

after a lot of rushing and hiding and fretting, we came to rocky's kitchen and he pulled a little stunt.

again, something just was not scary about the whole thing.

in fact, while the cloak and dagger stuff was going on at the toy shop, i noticed the teddy type goon had a lot of profile shots... maybe the director was enamoured of profiles for a particular reason.

my one happy moment in 270, mami saying, "exshkooz me, khisko!" nice dialogue. truly bizarre.

You touched all the aspects of the episode.. Thank you for continuing to write and making sense as always indi di. appreciate it..

hi rhea,

thanks. 😳

you have no idea how hard i am struggling. i have no desire to write nor watch... and it is not because barun is not there, it's because writing has slipped and the direction is flat. why this dependence by professionals on one resource? when gul pulled the main director out and sent him to set up another show, ipk still went on and did pretty okay too... arshad i think replaced lalit mohan for quite a while and some great sequences there... an actor who was on contract up to feb and negotiated a deal thereafter to do another show for a few days while he continued to give time here... an idea bought by the ph... why is it the moment he leaves the writing goes off, the direction becomes listless...

i am a serious watcher of this show and this sudden lack of sense and depth affects me i can see... so i must take lambi saansey.

if i continue to write, it is because i had promised myself i would... it's more like an exercise really now... 😆 the thing is to see whether i can still write with flair and integrity... i have a feeling i am failing already.

some answers above...

my heart ripped when i saw barun in 271. i wondered why despite knowing full well he is only acting, and being a crotchety 54 year old i still felt all knotted up watching the mayhem being brought upon a blindfolded man.what nadani have i gone and done. 😃

Indu, Durga di, Indi di thank you for talking about those kidnapper predictions.. I saw Shayam's silhouette in 271 and knew it was the same actor and not a double. But in 272 when ASR struggles to reach him there is all that dubious play witht he lighting on the man's face. Was comparing that too the misleading voice on the teej day. haha ... but Indu said everyone already knew he is the jeejaji.. I had not read anything till then like Durga di so just based on the hints was guessing it had to be him on teej.. And hardly ever have seen Indian shows wrap up things neatly so didn't think it was chachaji either for the kidnap.. basically I just skipped in my first watch all this knowing the suspense was not worth it. ☺️

the mood seems depressed all over.. have not written for a while.. will try and write something for one of the episodes on Sunday.. I love writing and sharing thoughts with you all.. and am sort of feeling like waking up as Khushi on holi morning and saying..

jo bhi galat ho raha hai sab aaj ke din thik ho jayega..

Now if only gruff voiced man rubbing his sleepy eyes sits up in bed and says.. what the.. shut up.. koi farak nai parta.. get out.. hi.. and girl replies back with.. aap shut up.. hum kyu get out.. laad governor..jilebi..devi maiya.. life will be perfect again..

episode 271

it is of utmost importance to realize that the warrior's approach should be simple-minded sometimes, very simple and straightforward. that makes it very beautiful: you having nothing up your sleeve; therefore a sense of genuineness comes through. that is decency.
~~~chogyam trungpa~~~
there was something obscene and real about rocky, the character and also his actor. a thoughtless brutality in him. the idea of flinging chilli powder into his eyes was not a bad one i thought, though the scene felt a bit flat.
what i did enjoy though, was manorama's anger. her need to come flying back to give him a few thwacks with a ladle or whatever. how dare he touch her arnav bitwa. i have been thinking these past few days that the other really good actor in ipk was utkarsha naik... she got her character and knew instinctively how to give mami ji dimension without messing with the exaggerated caricature sketch... something really thrilling about good acting, for me at least. can even make me completely forget bad or mediocre writing. that sense of connection, it brings me in front of the screen...
manorama comes, unlike the raizadas, from a tougher world, survival is key here, you must learn the art... she is a feisty nasty survivor... very difficult to take down really. and just as asr has a funny soft corner for this strange crass woman, so does she for her formidable nephew in law, never mind that he is more successful than her akash bitwa... in fact that success itself she perhaps is even more attracted to and awed by. lovely relationship there between manorama and arnav bitwa.
khushi clings to mami ji after mami saves her, "shukriya, mami ji" she knows rocky was quite capable of pulling that trigger. manorama has just saved her life. a bond is being established between the two bahus of the raizadas... and when i saw it the first time since i had no idea of what was to come, i thoroughly enjoyed this growth of a new friendship between two unlikely candidates. felt real and yes, very ipk. remember that little dhak dhak between bedi ji and bua ji? i even enjoyed manorama struggling to remain crusty and calling her phattee sari... she likes being her weird self and does not want to seem
kidnapper said, "dammit"?!!!
what, he watches ipk, is it?
next thing i know there is shyam in silhouette... he looked so familiar, but as i have mentioned elsewhere, i kept thinking he is the stooge, the real baddie was another one... perhaps a sheeshmahal man.
having decoded more than what mr holmes would have from a restaurant bill, the detectives arrive at yet another warehouse sort of place.
and then suddenly, bits of filthy vest and a man with hands tied behind his back, black pants...
blindfold.
asr is in a godown like space, teetering, lost...trying to feel the room, read it despite that blindfold.
he falls against a high stool, he kicks it... there's still plenty fight in him.
what have they done to him...asr... i am horrified really, it was so painful to watch these scenes... i wanted to laugh it off and say, "yaar, this is a silly serial, relax..." i could not. not even on my nth view.
the raw, screaming shots, the harsh heartless air, a lean man, wiry and determined with a cruel blindfold and hands flicked behind him, bound.seemed the director had suddenly found focus and joy again.
he is trying to assess the space. he is trying to kick open a door... "yaaa!" he yells as he summons all his strength to tell his foe he is not down. not yet. never.
suddenly... "boss agaye", the boss is here, off screen.
shyam arrives, shots in silhouette all through. he sits on a rocking chair. why this added drama? there is talk of the two women and how the girl just wouldn't let go.
asr hears this on the other side of the door. he feels things, and in that state barun emotes asr's need, his desperate fear that khushi might be in danger...
a quiet voice in him, a voice that so wants to see khushi safe, so wants to never let any harm come to her... this is the man who dragged her up the temple steps, this is the man who threw himself in the way of danger for her... everything really for her...
"nahin khushi, tumhe yahan nahin ana chahiye, i really i really hope tum yahan nahin pahunchi ho..." no khushi you should not come here... i really really hope you haven't reached here... lovely take... the mind is still asr... cool, edge of anger... just love.
"main nahin chahta tum wapas kissi musibat mein phas jaao... no khushi no," i don't want you to get into trouble again.
he is fearful for her... he can't stop worrying.
and as the thoughts come, a sensation... that gust of wind...
she feels it too sitting somewhere outside...
the sensing... corny yes, but he convinces me, so does she...
"mami ji, humara dil kah raha ki arnav ji yahin kahin hain..." mami ji, my heart says arnav ji is somewhere here. and rabba vey fills the air. was it a ridiculous rabba vey? i don't know. i liked it... i think they can sense each other... people who care deeply can. and there was something poignant and beautiful really in the connection they felt, in a man with his eyes closed but his heart all seeing, a girl with fear choking her but her heart strong and in love.
why is shyam pointing at people and getting all melodramatic? suddenly he is hyped up and like a villain from amasala movie, the "boss"... what he woud be the next shakal, mugambo, or what gabbar... abhaas actually mentioned joker once i think. shyam wishes.
in the mean time, the man is going nuts kicking the door. he wants to get these guys riled... i love this reading of asr. he is not one to sit quietly, fearing detection, death... he rages, he defies, he demands acknowledgement, he plans, he fights back.
"bilkul teda hai yeh," absolutely not straight is he, complains rocky. yes. teda... that's what he is.
she wears a teda choti showing her tedaness... and he is teda incarnate... so rocky, try as you might that "dammit" won't make you him. you are too straight and predictable.
four vicious large men walk in to take on the thin, fearless one. they draw him into a fight... the egregious uncouthness of the whole thing. his hands are tied, he can't see. and they surround him, baiting.
asr moves beautifully, sensing, slicing the air with his hands and legs, scoring... a ballet like feel to the sequence. a harsh ballet though.. again i think of jason bourne and his memories of fighting blindfolded... che sah, the words that whisper in him... a blurred memory, like an echo around these scenes...
we have seen many sides of asr... the tycoon, the arrogant ruthless businessman, the loving brother, the hurting son, the rebel, the heartless one, the man in command, the irate husband, the atheist, the intelligent manipulator, the mate, the lover... it was now another side coming into focus... the warrior.
physically and in the mind, he is a warrior. and among the most magnificent of them.
i found the treatment almost like big screen movies and that vest was so so filthy and the man absolutely into the role... magnificent, i couldn't help but think... and i really felt terrible watching him suffer, then elated when he scored... the asr music played of course and i did sort of smile.
but finally it was time to get down to business, the quarry had been played with enough. it was time for chloroform and knockout...
then three men carried the beautiful warrior out and a rabba ve had to raise its wail as he is taken away. and like the payal... the blindfold fell..
watching him being taken away, his wife almost lost her mind... a terrible moment. it was also a beautiful one... she loved him, keeping sane in that state was not possible, they were taking her arnav ji away, so even though her mind noted the rgect warnings from mami ji, her instincts would not be curbed, she rushed after the disappearing van yelling at the top of her voice, "arnav ji! arnav ji..." her life was in that can, nothing else mattered.
move swift as the wind and closely-formed as the wood. attack like the fire and be still as the mountain.
~~~ sun tzu, the art of war~~~

when he came to, he was sprawled on a sofa. again instinct, he balled his fist, ready to fight... he was in danger he seemed to know... nice direction, that fist. he woke up, looked around, mind ticking, he stood up and searched, a crack in the door showed him a posse of men outide... what eh couldn't see was shyam in black in an elaborate set up designed to hide him giving instructions with his hands... not speaking. so he does fear saaley saab... he knows asr is quite capable of figuring out who he is... you know shyam, you are right to fear his mind... it's the writers that decided otherwise... and so despite coming that close to you, he did not recognise you.

the first time i saw 271 i loved the dramatic fight... not the one at the end, the blindfolded one... but later when i realised kidnap had no meaning, somehow all this violence seemed meaningless and self indulgent. and no, it did not bring in trp.

i like it when it goes all dark in ipk, darkness is a repeated motif here... often the most important truths come to light in the dark or soon after the it is dispelled. a sense of dhoop chaon, chiaroscuro with marked contrast between light and shade in it.

Indi di, watching this particular set of episodes on the rerun, leaves me wondering if this is what I got hooked on to. Yesterday, watched that telepathic conversation with tears in my eyes, the rest fast forwarded. Those early episodes, two actors who lived their characters, left you feeling they have to be attracted to each other, this can't be faked! But now, even Sanaya seems out of it, flat. Everything seems crass and forced. Only one thing to do, go watch those early episodes for the nth time!😆 Maybe you should do combined takes like you used to before and do detailed ones of those early episodes which you had missed.

hi kizh,

more than any of them i am flat out. this second time round watching that stuff, yes, i wonder too... is this the same one that i openly admit being addicted to? 😆 last time after barun returned i had written a little note praising sanaya for carrying the load and keeping it all together... then one did not know the story and i suppose the jadoo and nasha of the days around hugs and hut were so high, cleverly thrown in within eight odd days of barun's break, that it took me a while to even realise everything was what the... also i really had banked on there being a good solid reason behind this kidnap.

i should have known otherwise. i have watched other shows cursorily and there never is any sense in any of these soaps... but because i was so convinced by the romance and the love story and despite my extreme discomfort during the post marriage over the top sanaya days, i kept thinking this is going somewhere.

well, we know where it is going. and yes, this time i am finding it hard to connect to khushi's reactions hugely. only when she is with asr, she is real, otherwise...

but i have a feeling it's the writing that is affecting everything. and what is affecting the writing... i really no longer wish to know.

telepathy will completely shake me up as will that teri meri... then cliff top. after that there are some fabulous fights and things, uff aadat, biwi nahin tyoh tv... little lovely dhak dhak things, pati bana lo, haq hai tumhara mujh pe... up to the 1 august episode. after that is dadi... the not too happy suhagraat, lovely meri patni, funny palang tod, the night he will tell her about maa, the stupendous i love you dammit, and farm house... the rest is just indi waiting desperately to see if show comes back. yeah, think i'll write as and when i feel like it, and do two liners 😆 on each episode on episode bundle takes... he he.

and just to make myself happy, i will write at some point what i saw as their "marriage" after they come home post kidnap...
