Ekta Vs. Smriti - The better producer?

This thread may seem quite ridiculous because Ekta has been in this business for a much longer time than Smriti but today, with Pooja's rape being handled so maturely in TSZTSA, I am intrigued by Smriti's techniques of producing. There's little doubt that Smriti's serials are far more realistic than all of Ekta's soap operas combined but who takes the cake as a producer?

My two cents:

The rape scenes that of KT (KSBKBT) & Pooja (TSZTSA) are most probably the only sequences that bear any resemblance to each other. So it's only fair to compare them. While KT's rape bordered on the point of being titillating (it seemed less like rape if the voice was mute, IMHO), Pooja's was not. It was neither graphic nor titillating. The way it was handled was very mature. Smriti did show rape but it was unlike any of Ekta's. There was a reason for the rape – which was made quite clear; the rape added to the initial plot & overall idea and to some extent, did make sense. Whereas KT's rape was illogical – Mayank, the rapist, suffered from Multiple Sclerosis – a disease which weakens the brain and spinal cord and is mostly found in females. How can a person, who has the mind of a child, suffers from weakness in the spine, get so intoxicated as to rape someone and exactly know what to do, if you get my wind? Surely, alcohol would weaken him. Oopsies, silly me, logic and Balaji repel each other.

Another thing I've noticed – Smriti doesn't go for actors just because they sell nor does she choose actors on the basis of their looks but on the basis of their acting skills. , from what I've noticed; whereas glam has been a USP in almost every Ekta show. This gives Smriti an edge over Ekta. Ekta may produce 10000 soaps but if the quality is close to zero, then…what's the point of making soaps? The only thing Smriti's shows lack, IMHO, is audience participation.

Out of the two, Smriti definitely is the better producer for me. Who takes the cake as a producer for you?

I don't watch TSZTSA but from what you said i reckon its Smriti because i watch some Ekta shows and she has the same story line in all of them and the same things like fainting over a trivial matter or raping when ur suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. Its just not right and i also watched when Kt got raped but i thought the rapist would be a mature person who didn't like Kt, instead it came out as a person who was madly in love with her, i mean who would rape the person they love and that too unknowingly and from what i saw he knew what he was doing. 😕
By the way could you tell me when Pooja got raped in TSZTSA? 😊

Ekta for me...smitri shows from clips i saw come across really dull on screen as for ektas they from balaji camp leavers 😆 ..rest i do not know smitri shows dont appeal to me i like bright sets, costumes and i prefer younger actors at balaji 😊

Smriti is definately the winner. In ekta serial, only glamour is there, torture and depression..how villians always win 😆 but TSZTSA shows reality, actors ability and much more. 😳

Ekta is an expert in mindless masala soaps; she is in the race for the money/trps and that she is definitely a pro at doing. She is not interested in meaningful drama or any excellence in the acting deparment. She is only interested in running a factory that produces trps and brings in money. And she is the best at that.

On the other hand Smriti is becoming an expert in realistic, meaningful/well-planned drama with emphasis on good acting.

So it really depends on your personal tastes and what kind of soaps you like to watch.

I prefer the kind of soaps they had before Ekta's time. They were realistic, they were planned out in advance, they were meaningful and they had good actors. They made you sit up and think. So, yeah, I prefer Smriti's style. 😃
