Ashmit Patel on a green drive
The greens must be thrilled with Ashmit Patel's initiative. The fitness freak has been encouraging all his friends, colleagues and neighbours to plant trees wherever and whenever they can. He has also planted some 40 ashoka saplings as he believes in leading by example. "Every day a tree is either cut down or gets uprooted in our city," says Ashmit who would like the government to make it compulsory for every citizen to plant and nurture at least one tree each year. "In this way we can have 1.2 crore new saplings being planted each year in Mumbai," he says adding that "Even if 10 per cent of these grow into full fledged trees, we can see a drastic change in the climatic conditions of Mumbai. Our city will be a much more pleasant place to live in…"
