One can marry at 21 or 31 or 41 or even later.

One certainly can ...but in reality it becomes difficult because most of the guys will marry other women and begin families with them. They may not wait until we turn 41. By that time there will only be losers and divorcees with children from previous marriages.

In addition if one wants to have kids it is better to have them at a younger age.

In any case, as far as gulli herself is concerned she seems to have achieved whatever she wants to in terms of career. What good reason is there for her to postpone marriage for ten more years if she is wanting to be married? And hang around in jaitser while her grandparents grow old?

Nowadays education and career is taking priority and women are ready to wait and even to adjust when the time comes.

Take gulli's case. If hardik was not there? Gulli's grandparents would have been heartbroken and gulli would have cried for somedays and would have adjusted to her life. As it is her grandparents have no one other than gulli. Why cant gulli become the son to take care of them in their old age?
Nowadays many girls prefer to take care of their parents than get married and be away from their parents. And when did anandi last visit her widowed father?

Good post. Here my 2 cents. Marriage is a wondeful thing that human species has invented.
But the reason and thevway it is done in India makes marriage miserable. Long ago it was only for
Procreation and fullfilling the sexual needs. In India very rarely it was out of love bet two individuals.
It was more for girl's parents to get rid of them so that some one else feeds them. For the boys side,
It is for a procreater of their waris, and free slavish physical labour.
Marriage was financial security for women in a man's wold. In the western world which is affluent
It is a little different. A woman has options to be not tied . Marriage is only bet two individuals. In
India the family gets too involved. Like Bv. Unless people think married people have their own lives
It is going to be miserable. I guess in a poor country like India it will be like this only.

Even in India times have changed and girls are able to assert. I have a cousin who after her education got a lucrative employment and she has to visit foreign countries most of the time. No one is ready to marry her if she continues in that job and she does not want to leave such a good job and she loves to be on a continuous trip throughout the year. Her parents are damn worried. She is nearing 30.

Among the urban these days women are doing well. I am glad they are using this independence to
Assert themselves. If a woman has good finabcial backing she is ok. But women who are employed
In lesser jobs like clerk, secretaries etc, their life is independent in western countries but mot in our country. Society can be said to have developed for the better only when ordinary people with
Ordinary skills are also able to live with dignity.because not every woman is that bright to be in a
Highly lucrative or influential job. It would have been nice if they showed an ordinary Gulli like
The teacherjee independent. For thst matter, they did show teacherjee. But did not give her
Role too much importance. In fact she was way ahead of times in that stupid village of Kazaan.
They could have shown some romance of such people instead of involving a match maker DS.

The girl I mentioned is not from a rich family. She belongs to an ordinary middleclass family but she is a hard worker and dedicated to her work. The parents took loans for her studies.
