PART 21
"I want to kiss you in the rain. Not because it's a picture perfect moment, but because I want you to know that I'll always love you. No matter if it's a bright sunny day or a dull rainy night.
~ Inspired by a quote from unknown writer
His hands held my shoulders as his lips captured mine. I kissed him back, however I was worried if I was doing it right. It was my first kiss. Not technically, though. I placed my hands on his chest feeling the strong muscles inside his shirt. Slowly, his right hand travelled to my cheek, then, he placed it on the back of my head - thumb in front of my ear - pulling me closer. I shuddered as I wetness on my hair. It was raining. His left hand went from my armpit, all the way down to my waist. He snaked it around my waist as he indulged more into the kiss.
Honk!!!
I pulled away - breathless - as I heard a car honking. We were not alone, anymore. I looked toward the source of sound. I sheltered my eyes with my right palm, trying to see through the heavy rain. It was the cab I had booked on phone.
"The cab's here. Perfect timing," I muttered under my breath.
"This shouldn't have happened." I turned to look at Randhir. What?
He looked me in the eyes. I looked away, blushing, due to the kiss. "This never happened."
That pinched me in the heart. I looked at him, confused. What did he mean?
"This shouldn't have happened. I'm so sorry, Sanyukta. This never happened. Shit! This shouldn't have happened," he kept on repeating - shaking his head every once in a while - as he walked toward the cab.
Did he regret kissing me?
I silently went and sat by his side, in the cab.
We didn't talk throughout the journey.
"The thing I love about rains is that I can cry my heart out and no one will notice the tears"

_____
Vidhushi's P.O.V.
"Parth, Parth, Parth. Wait, wait, wait. Listen at least," I said, as I prevented him from closing the door to his room.
"Vidhushi, you are not allowed in boy's hostel. We'll be in huge mess if anyone caught you in here," he said, still trying to close the door. "Do me a favor. Leave."
"But I want to talk on an important topic. Please just listen, once" I said. He stopped trying to close the door. So, I left the door too and took few steps back, expecting him to come out. To my shock, he used the time to close the door. I ran to stop him but in vain. He had already locked the room from inside.
"That's cheating," I complained.
"Leave," he shouted from inside.
"Fine, Parth Kashyap. This is how you want to do it? Cool, we'll do it this way," I shouted back.
A crowd of boys had gathered up there, by then. They were all talking within themselves, enjoying the scene. Hiding their giggles, they all tried to guess what was happening. I rolled my eyes and banged his door again.
"Just leave, Vidhushi," he shouted, again.
"Not before I tell you something," I said, calmly.
"After that, you'll leave?" he asked.
"After that your questions won't let me leave."
"What?" He was confused. I laughed.
"Argh, Vidhushi! I'll never understand you," he said and I laughed some more. The crowd has grown up.
"Fine, listen," I said. He didn't say anything. "I love you, Parth."
No reply.
"Parth?"
Still, no reply.
I heard rushed footsteps and then, he opened the door. "What did you say?"
"That I love you," I replied, looking in his eyes.
He looked around at the surprised crowd outside his room. He grabbed my arm and pulled me inside his room. "Come inside."
I walked inside and turned to see him locking it from inside. He paced to me and gritted, "Do you know what you're saying?"
I was scared to this angry part him. But, I wasn't the one who runs away. I nodded.
He looked away, displeasured, and sat on his bed. He grabbed his hair and shut his eyes. "Vidhushi, you know about Arpita?"
"Yes." I had done my homework.
"Still?"
"Everybody moves on, Parth."
"Maybe, I won't," he challenged. I smiled. I walked to him and sat by his side.
"Maybe," I agreed. "But, Parth, I want to be like you. When I see you, I realize how money isn't everything. You're changing me and you don't even know about it. I love the type of person you are, Parth. I really respect you. You are changing me; maybe I'll change you, too."
"That's not a surety."
"True, but you have to agree that you too care for me. Or else, you wouldn't have stopped me from leaving the party yesterday."
"It was Sanyukta's wish," he replied, avoiding looking at me.
"I'm sure Sanyukta didn't wish that you'd say "Please, don't leave. For me?". Or better. Did Sanyukta wish that you grab my hand and say please when I don't agree? Or did Sanyukta wish you to hug me from happiness when I agreed finally? You can fool your friends, Parth, not me."
"I...I," he stammered. I raised my eyebrows, hinting him to continue. He rolled his eyes and walked to Randhir's study table. "Leave, Vidhushi."
"Parth-" I tried to object.
"At least, let me think." Okay, that's acceptable.
I turned to leave but then something caught my eye. It was a book or diary - covered in purple paper - kept on Randhir's book rack.
Sanyukta was searching for her diary. She'd said it was covered in purple. Is this her diary? If it is, what is it doing on Randhir's desk? Anyway, Sanyukta should know about this. This will also help me in gaining her trust and friendship again. There are many relations I've screwed. This will be the first step to mend them. Poor soul, she was so worried due to this diary. Funny, it's here.
I grabbed my phone and texted her.
Sanyukta, I think Randhir has your diary. I just saw something like it on his table. Thought, you should know.
_________
Randhir's P.O.V.
I somehow managed to say "goodbye" to her and walk to my room. I saw Vidhushi leaving from our room. What is she doing here? I entered to see Parth on his bed - eyes closed. He woke up due to the voice of my footsteps.
"All went fine?" He knew that I had gone to meet my mom. I nodded. "You should change. You're all drenched, Randhir."
I nodded again.
"Is everything fine, Randhir?"
"I kissed her."
"Kissed who?"
"Sanyukta," I barely whispered.
"Great," he exclaimed to my annoyance. "So you two are together now? Wahoo! When's my party?"
"Have you gone mad? We're not together. I told her, I'm sorry. And stop celebrating, for God's sake."
"What did you do? Are you insane?"
"Argh, Parth! I'm too screwed up for Sanyukta. This is all wrong. I shouldn't" But I couldn't complete as Parth interfered.
"Just, shut the f**k up, Randhir Singh Shekhawat." I stared back at him, shocked. "You know, you are right. You're just too screwed up. Boys would die to have someone as Sanyukta. And you? You care for her, you risk everything for her, you trust her, and you'd do anything for her happiness. Still you think you don't love her? You know I've been listening this from the first day of our friendship. But, I used to think that you haven't spent quality time with her or maybe you're confused, that's why. But now? You kissed her. You know you love her. Still you just broke her heart saying it shouldn't have happened? What kind of idiot are you, Mr. Rank 1?"
I was too numb to utter anything. And, then I heard the most horrible thing from the most beautiful voice.
"Where's my diary, Randhir?"
I turned around to see Sanyukta. Her eyes were bloodshot red. "Sanyukta, listen to me, once."
She pushed me away and walked to my table. I watched, horrified, as she picked up her diary and opened it to check. She stared at it for a minute and then turned to face me.
"How could you?" she whispered.
"Sanyukta, please, listen."
"Now, I get it. That's why you regret kissing me. Because, you just had to pull me out of depression. That's it. Kissing the girl and leaving her wasn't in the plan. The plan was to give all the happiness and leave her, right?"
"Wait, what?"
"You stole my diary so that you could trouble me some more, since Parth's arrival hardly let it happen. But when you opened it, you saw that I was in love with you. So, you thought 'this girl loves me and I make her life hell. Now, she's in depression. So let's undo this. Poor soul.' Right? You had pity on me, huh?"
"No, Sanyukta! That's not the truth."
"I hate you, Randhir Singh Shekhawat," she said and turned to leave.
All I could do was see her leaving.
That moment was so hard for me to breathe
Cuz you took away the biggest part of me
Life is so unpredictable
Never thought, love like yours will leave me
