Komal Nahta -
Varun Dhawan does a lovely job and plays Humpty Sharma with all the earnestness at his command. His dialogue delivery in the typical middle-class, Delhi-based Punjabi Romeo' style, is very endearing. Alia Bhatt shines, delivering a first-rate performance as Kavya. Her dialogue delivery and expressions are simply excellent. She looks pretty too. At the rate at which Alia is going, film after film, it shouldn't be long before she reaches the top! Ashutosh Rana is extraordinary as Kavya's father. He plays the character with remarkable ease and understanding.
Raja Sen-
Alia Bhatt starts off cutesy and a tad too affected (her yoga inhalations are pure plastic, but then aren't they supposed to be?) yet is charming enough to keep things bubbling over till the actors drop their guard, after which she shows off some serious talent -- especially rocking the Arms Outstretched pose (SRK).

It is Varun Dhawan, however, who really takes this movie home.

His Humpty is sweeter than he is roguish, and when this film calls for sincerity, he doles it out impressively. He creates a character worth caring about, and his chemistry with Bhatt is quite endearing
Aniruddha Guha
Thankfully for him, Dhawan and Bhatt are extremely efficient, the former's goofy charm and the latter's girlishly attractive demeanour keeping you engaged for most part. While Dhawan looks set to enjoy a long innings as a quintessential Bollywood "hero" who can play to the gallery at will, Bhatt's willingness to mix up her roles in films like Highway, 2 States and now Humpty makes her a promising young actor
Rajeev Masand
Yet the film rests on the appeal of its two leads who're nothing short of terrific. Alia has a livewire presence, literally lighting up the screen when she's in the frame. But it's Varun who has the slight edge here, effortlessly pulling off both goofy and genuinely heartfelt. The film works - despite employing every predictable trope - because they're on top of their game.
Mohar Basu - Koimoi

Varun Dhawan is impeccable as Humpty. He delivers his dialogues effortlessly and somehow there couldn't have been a better cast for the role. If the same character was played by another actor, probably he wouldn't be half as endearing or adorable. The script ditches him but the actor scores!

Alia Bhatt is charming in the fiesty role of Kavya. Somehow with each film, Alia is getting a better command over her acting skills. In another five years time, this young lady will be a reigning Bollywood superstar! From her first film till now, she has become more zesty with her roles, her acting has matured a lot with experience and in a mediocre script Lady Bhatt shines.

Deccan Chronicle
Varun Dhawan slips into Romeo's shoes effortlessly and then takes his character beyond that. On paper the wayward Humpty Sharma could well be the alter ego of Vicky Arora (Vicky Donor) or Bittu Sharma (Band Baajaa Baaraat). But this is where Varun's acting chops come to play and he manages to make his character stand out among established prototypes. In the same vein, Alia takes Kavya beyond the feisty stereotype and adds more layers to her. From being funny to being vulnerable, she's a scene stealer all the way

Well it's nice of these 2 getting good reviews for a candy floss wala rom com. Imagine if they were given something more heavy script base with intense love story?
INDICINE.COM
Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania belongs to Varun Dhawan, who is quickly emerging as a mega star in the making. He takes control of the show right from the start and excels with his peculiar Delhi mannerisms and accent. Alia continues her rich vein of form with HSKD. She portrays the role of a middle class Punjabi from small town Punjab beautifully. Her chemistry with Varun Dhawan clicks and they both look passionate on-screen.

It's a modern take on candy floss love stories which were grand back in the days. Like DDLJ, PKTDK & MPK!!! If you enjoyed them and are willing to see modern version of it then go for it.
