I love the comparison of the other phone call to the new one! ASR unmasked his feelings for the first time with such honesty and sincerity whereas the previous call he walked back behind his wall after voicing his concerns. The most awaited moment and it was brilliantly executed by the actors and the creatives. I really enjoyed your take! And ufff, the edits especially the one on the top...too good. ❤️ Thanks Indi!! 🤗

hey kate,

thanks so much for reading... yes, that time he just leaped right back behind his faraq nahin padta fortress, but this time... oh the sweetness of this surrender. you liked edits, i am thrilled. thank you so much.

episode 260

"hume chhoone ki koshish bhi mat ki jiye aur bahar nikal jaiye yahan se," don't even try to touch me and leave this room, she says.

he grabs her hand.

"aapke aansoo sirf usske liye bahte hain jo aapko sabse zyada dard diya hai," your tears flow only for the one who has given you the most amount of hurt, he is perplexed, pained almost. why is it so, he wants to know.

"aapko sach mein nahin pata..." you really don't know, do you... she has a strange smile as she says that.

there might have been no need to write anything on this episode, watching was hard enough, but for the little something i thought i noticed in the shyam khushi interaction.

was there an attempt to bring back complexity... that natural human element of envy and obsession, both quite a part of shyam's mind. he directly asks her what is it about the other guy that makes her want him, his touch though he is so incredibly nasty to her, gives her only sorrow and hurt, it seems to really perplex him. yes, he is disgusting to even be there with that phone as his excuse and his weapon... but he felt more real for an instant than the lecherous obvious flat one of the shirtless episode and the others in recent times. his agony seemed genuine and his obsession too... he lost his cool with his wife. the carefully maintained facade which holds through most things, slipped. something about khushi wanting asr and almost telling him how much when she says rhetorically, you really don't know do you, just penetrates that thick coat of self enraptured amoral/immoral excessive egoistic godless gunk and he bleeds. he also knows that his game was not played to adroitly, she knows he is not interested in the papers he had been feigning great interest in just to keep her on tenterhooks and perhaps to adhere her to him. both his dil and dimag are challenged. it leaves him shaken.

my feeling, in a rather inspired creative take and with clever writing, shyam in hsi core was the other side of asr... shyam was often painted with asr like features but with definitely the ugly end of the brush. he too had that shatir thing, he too had a feeling for khushi, he too believed in making his own life... but he lacked an essential element, something asr practically defined... conscience. and yes, an inalienable purity in the materials that made him... shyam was ashudh, impure incarnate, maybe that's why his hindi had to be so shudh, so pure. and so we saw the other side of those very traits.
no idea why but i am thinking of ghee spilling on asr at janmashtamai and some sort of message of his purity coming through, ignore my wild mind.

for a moment i felt for shyam that more complex feeling... he felt like a real human being with a completely messed up character. something of the fallen angel perhaps in him... the one he adores shuns him and prefers anither. no matter how wrong or warped or visious he is, a sense of an emotion in him, a genuine cut.

had they worked with that, might have been intersting, but they kept waffling and shifting and finally made him completely meaningless.

i must say, i felt bad for abhaas. not a bad actor he... to have stripped his shyam of all subtlety and made him loud and meaningless was not good for the story and really sad for abhaas. he might have pulled off a far more shaded character, though yes, shyam never ever was the true antagonist of asr. stature just not there.

here his envy of asr is quite clear... what is it about him that you like so much... why do you reject me.

hints of this will keep coming up i seem to recall. but nothing will be done to make it part of narrative.

apart from this one thing, 260 really felt as though all creatives had taken time off and left writing, direction, editing, sound, everything to rookies and interns. perhaps 258 and 259 exhausted them.

otherwise how can anyone after those dhamakedar twist episodes, for once living up to the eternal tv serial promise, have regressed to this.

in terms of the logic of khushi opting out of involving cops and looking for private investigators, there was nothing off. but everything else was. everything. including the way manorama mami's antenna sprang up and how she got involved. it was as if people with no knowledge of ipk were suddenly directing it. and what was that whole detective agency set up... the writing was so obvious you wanted to run and hug them and say there there... really.

i have noticed that in my earlier pieces i have said that i believe writers led by ved raj and gautam hegde tried their best to hang onto the whole thing, but channel and trp and an "adjusting" production house were too much to push back against. i am a copywriter, i know these sort of pressures can ruin things... but now more and more i feel, someone fairly senior among the writers also just let it go... lost the passion.

that was the thing.

that passion one could always feel earlier now seemed to diminish. only to reappear in little patches here and there. and every time it did, it brought utter beauty. alas the lack of passion also took us to the other end of that.

260 certainly was not touched by passion.

and there was no barun.

Well I started watching the show last year, but when was it originally aired? That security company that mamiji and Khushi managed to break into has footage on video tapes and a very ancient looking video player. I feel like am in a time warp.

Maybe am just missing Arnav bitwa too much. 😭

Hello hi bye bye.

Mamiji and Khushi's absurd breaking into security company to find the tapes.. ( that video playe tho bsolete player could be realistic as these may not have been upgraded).. felt all worth when we got to see a glimpse of arnavji turning back and going along with some strangers and were teary eyed with Khushi.. the idiosyncrasies being obsessed with a tv soap...although i felt immensely cheated for never being told how easy it was to take away a sharp, grown up man running a business empire

Last week, i was watching the kidnap track in one go for the first time after the initial airing days. And I go by dates, can relate to than episode numbers. May 22nd is the phone call, he was there a bit in the next episode. Then May 31 st is the across vent convo ..a week apart... very very moving it was ...until we realized the intrusion of BDs...next 4 days he was very much there, until June 4th.. the first phase until the hut was fine I thought.. why we made such a big deal that time??

Thank you for talking about it with me Indu. I would think the first time the big deal must have been because of the hype created by the all the news around it. Since I haven't watched it then I don't think I even realised he was gone until after the hut.

I felt that I still did not see the episodes of this time because I could not find the story convincing or entertaining enough. Even on the rewatch I am having trouble because it feels like the writer is unsure of which direction to take. They showed a consistently sad Khushi and then had her thinking about money while hiring a detective. And this is the Khushi who was always resourceful. With mamiji also like you said that 'absurd' breakin just didn't sit well with me. This is a television show and I try watching with unbiased unjudgemental eyes but somehow I do think the same team could have done much better.

Seeing Arnav on screen was good, but don't kill me for saying this. Just my personal feeling was that Sanaya's expressions of sadness were very normal typical estranged Hindi serial heroine. Then mamiji putting her hand on her shoulder, but brushing it off, also was sweet. Though the acting and whole set up too obvious. I can't really put in words except know that there was a feeling in me which said I was not moved enough.

They can create such magic with a phone call. In those early episodes there were quite a lot of scenes both in Gupta house and Shanti van where ASR or Khushi were not present or were not with each other and yet it hardly if ever boring to watch. I keep hoping to see Barun so that I can atleast marvel at him and the acting and enjoy myself for those few minutes even when everything else remain not great simply okay.

hi rhea, indu,

first and second hug coming up in 266... till then gremlins are writing the story and asterix and obelix are directing it... certainly no serious creative is involved in these efforts. the drop in quality is so drastic, and really on this watch even more obvious, i really am flustered. how can those who directed the phone call, the rain hug, the teri meri and all the other astonishingly wonderful moments of ipk be doing this? did you see the black gloves tailing khushi?

at least the first time around i was still excited, thinking some major story will break.. now i know the crazy mess it is unfolding and somehow the pointlessness of such episodes... just disconnects me. i keep running to the meaningful episodes both before this and after, just to feel all is ok.

i just saw last episode. unmitigated disaster. even my husband commented... to have started so well and then take it to that...

takes some talent.

We all need a hug to cheer us up.. 🤗

Indi di that is pink.. not sure whether to roll over laughing or bang my head on something..

Last episode of the show? Hahaha did you hear that speech? No mention till the end of Arnavji .. I don't think any smiley (won't bore you with words) I put here will come close to describing my incredulity and indignation at what was being shown.

P.S - I seriously think even Obelix is smarter.
P.P.S - Have you seen how expensive Asterix and Oblex books have become these days?

I know you would want to just not kill but butcher me for this.. but absence of the lead actor does impair the interest of the creatives. They were not doing their best obviously to cover up and there was no one writing, no one directing but it was on for a nose dive but I can not entirely blame them either. This man IS the heart of this show. And he carried it with aplomb too till then. It is a love story and needs two hands to clap.
I thoroughly enjoyed Khushi's emotions for couple of episodes. But why she became Anjali all of a sudden, openly crying with Anjali and nani? Is she the girl who thumped on ASR's chest and asked him some REAL questions? Would Khushi jeopardize Arnavji's life just for the heck of $20K? She could cry with naniji for arnavji and make sugar free jalebis but couldn't take money from her?? Cant say enough how implausible it looked a girl trying to save her beloved all by herself. I know there is a need to drag the track, but what fans did post Remarriage, giving up that is, makers already did by this time..

Indu - Why kill you? **Imagine your dupatta held from behind, me ducking the black coffee you throw at me, reel you in, lean forward, and reward you with a peck on the cheek**
you neatly summed up my thoughts about Khushi..Why make her cry and be all desparate, but not have her ask for all the help she can get? So confusing..
True.. it does take both the leads to build a love story.. and it takes ASR and Khushi to make this unforgettable love story..

Issk - Thank you thank you .. noticingj the isshoulderj?
