Mona Singh is getting impatient. After her own makeover as Jassi she took a long break and then a reality show fell into her lap. Who could identify herself better with the concept of the show than the girl who had lived the life of an underdog in her last serial! Mona, the Jassi, was the chosen one to host Sony TV's new reality show Extreme Makeover. The show was supposed to be aired in March this year. But it has been getting postponed perennially since then.

Mona's association with Extreme Makeover was announced even before the dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa was conceptualised. While shooting for Jhalak…, she shot for the promo for Extreme Makeover. "When we started shooting for Extreme Makeover, we thought that we could go on air in March. The scheduled date was then pushed to April-May. Now, it seems that it cannot go on air before August," says Mona.

The reason for the delay of the show lies in the concept itself. Extreme Makeover India is a 13-part reality series, which intends to resurrect the lives of distraught individuals facing stigma due to some facial disfigurement. The show features 13 selected individuals who will undergo reconstructive and cosmetic, dental and eye surgeries combined with fitness, diet and styling. The show is based on the format owned by the ABC network in USA. The show is the journey of the candidate's recovery over three months.

The selected candidates are not allowed to meet their family during recovery, as the show requires their final transformation to be a complete surprise to family and friends.

Says Mona, "The surgeries are a very long drawn out process. And in most of the cases, the face swells up. After examining the face, the doctor decides whether another surgery is required or not. The long process really tests one's patience."

Recounting her interaction with the patients Mona says, "The participants are from every corner of the country. There was one girl whose nose was so sunk into her cheeks that she could not breathe. The corrective operation was long and intricate. Finally when the girl saw her operated nose and face, she was thrilled. She cried with joy on seeing her picture-perfect face. Being a part of the entire process, I never felt so good until I saw her corrected 'beautiful face'," she says.

According to Mona, the shooting cannot be hurried because it is a reality show. "If it was a script-based show, we would have wrapped it up long back. But we are dealing with real-life cases and we cannot hurry the medical process. Thank God it's a weekly show!" she says.

The other participants also had a tough time dealing with social apathy. "Another participant was an outcast and didn't get a job because of his face in spite of appearing for numerous interviews. A girl did not get any marriage proposal because she had a big scar on her face. People like them are dear to their family, not to the society. Being a part of the show I have realised we have to respect every creation of God…" she adds.
