Prologue:
Yash and Akaash are identical twins - born of Radha and SP Scindia. Radha is ecstatic at seeing her kids but at the same is very saddened that she will never be able to bring up her sons in the wealthy environment they deserve. In fact, she had decided their father would never know of their existence, as SP had demanded that she abort her pregnancy. Now, with a twinge of sadness she that she could never reveal the identity of their father to her beautiful twins. She shared her thoughts with her best friend Ankita.
Ankita, the head nurse at the maternity wing had attended to Radha's delivery and freshened up the twins. She knew how SP had deceived Radha and taken advantage of Radha's naivety. Now, Ankita wondered how Radha would be able to raise two kids with no job and no college degree. Radha's parents would support her - but they were themselves living hand to mouth. And now - two babies to feed and tend!! Ankita vowed to herself she would help her friend find some job at the hospital.
Right then, as fate would have it - in that very hospital Gayatri was having a prolonged and difficult labor. She finally gave birth but her infant son born with the umbilical cord twice around his neck had a slim chance of survival. The child was very, very sick.
Ankita is called away to take care of Gayatri's sickly infant son. She took good care of Gayatri's infant - but the child was not destined to live. After an hour of struggle the infant died under Ankita's watch. Carrying Gayatri's dead infant in her arms - she rushes to meet Radha.
Ankita tells Radha "Here is your chance to give at least one of your sons the lifestyle he deserves. Gayatri - SP's wife gave birth to a baby boy an hour ago. The infant was born with the cord around his neck and did not survive. As yet no one is aware of his death. I brought him here for you to see. Now think quickly and tell me do you want to switch one twin with this infant?"
Radha - looked at her friend aghast. But, it did not take her more than a minute to make a decision. She did not think even for a moment that what she was doing was wrong. After all, would not SP have his infant? Will not Gayatri be happy that her child miraculously survived? Would not, at the very least, one of her children grow up in the lifestyle that is his birthright? Would it not give her more to raise the other twin?
Ankita watched all the emotions as they flickered through Radha's face. She knew what her friend was thinking. Finally Radha said: "Yes Ankita switch one twin. They both are identical - I will bring up my child far away from Bhopal. The two children will never cross paths - so SP and Gayatri will never know."
Ankita did not hesitate - she immediately completed the switch. Ankita only felt a deep calmness and peace within her - she knew what it was to grow up poor. Besides the kid was his parent.
